I hope ya'al are paying attention to the flooding in the Midwest....Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska & I think some parts of other states too.
Going to be a lot of farmers go under with these floods...may not be able to plant crops on time either if the ground doesn't dry out. Won't have $$$ for new equipment to replace what was damaged in the floods. Grain bins are bursting & grain is getting ruined. At least one ethanol plant shut down due to flooding which helped to drop the price of corn. Livestock has been lost too. One gal was commenting that the cows were calving and the calves being dropped in water & either drowning or freezing to death...that means less beef coming to market later this year.
There has been a strip thru Miss., Ala., Tenn. and further north/east...that has also gotten more rain than normal. One gal pal of mine has had flooding all around her with roads closed, schools closed, etc. so they will have some problems with their farming too.
And we are getting hail right now. Oh boy, we have damage...water coming in every east window....going to be a mess tomorrow!
Later guys!

Many farmers who were storing corn in their metal silos saw the silos split open spelling the grain into the flood waters. A lot of grain was destroyed across these states.

The stock indexes and oil complex were the big positive winners for the quarter. The metals complex other than platinum failed to gain. Grain commodities were negative, lumber up, as well as lean hogs. We saw a strengthening dollar as well. Interest rates came down due to the Fed guidance on world economies and intentions of no immediate rate hikes. Very good quarter for people invested in any stock funds unless invested in contrarian funds.

I see wheat, corn & soybeans going up. All the farmland flooding will probably cause prices to go even higher.

See oil and live cattle are down. Things vary all the time. Strange economy with transportation (trucking and rail traffic) looking poor. Yes, commodities are struggling right now. Grain complex is soft regardless of less production due to tens of thousands of acres not planted this year, due to China trade war. Not only live cattle, which does drop after barbeque season, but lean hogs are even softer, and again might have to do with China. Oil and gas complex is sideways due to our actually now over producing product. Remember back in the 70's we were told we would be out of petroleum by the year 2000 or so? Now we are exporting the stuff. Trucking is strange. consumers are stil buying things and tonnage is down. Some of the drop was probably from companies ordering extra product before the tariffs went into affect?? We have to see whether car and truck imports are way down. That could explain lots of lost truck transportation. I do not think steel and aluminum inports have dropped off that much but again I have not seen any data talking about these issues either. We live just off U.S. 30 in northwest Indiana and see huge trucks with actual police convoys (safety issue with traffic) moving huge equipment and infrastructure (steel, industrial pumps, etc) pieces on the highway going in both directions much more this year than years past. Another big transport item are the blades for the windfarm towers. They are going up everwhere around the state, and are usually imported. Truck traffic in our area on the interstates is heavier than ever for us in all directions.......

Well, an ethanol plant in Ind. is closing....more grief for Ind.! It's closing due to all the exemptions DT's administration is giving to the oil industry....but there goes a market for corn.

You do know they over built ethanol plants during the Obama Administration. They were also built on the idea of minimum $4 a gallon gasoline. If you liked $4 a gallon gasoline there would be a demand for ethanol today, and as you well know they were also heavily subsidized for farmers. I thought you were against subsidies for farmers. With better mpg vehicles as well as many electric vehicles on the road there is less need for ethanol.

Well also China was buying a lot of our ethanol for their use. And I'm betting that has come to a halt. They know how to hurt us and they are.
Their leader doesn't have to worry he is a dictator for life. Here trump is doing the crazy man shuffle, he has screwed the pooch and won't fix it. He has no idea how to negotiate with the Chinese, they can hold out forever. He thinks threatening and screaming will make them capitulate, he is dead wrong. I remember him saying tariffs are easy. That told you in the beginning the guy was a fool.
The market is up again, but he will finally go to far and I don't think it will recover. What a mess we are in.

All the stock indexes are up over August 15th The metals complex is strong right now except for copper. Heating oil is rising, assuming traders are pushing it higher for the heating season. The grain and meat complexes are about where they were, and nothing will change unless China tariffs change or USDA crop projections change dramatically Dollar is gaining strength against most foreign currencies.

As of today, the stock markets are still ignoring the possibility of Presidential Impeachment based on the indices. Transport index is starting to show some life, although the index is stoill below the recent high posted on Sept. 15th. A couple of transport stocks have reported in the new quarter and are showing income and sales coming in above their guidance which had been trending down from the last qtr. I would say the "predicted recession" is not here, but today's retail sales numbers for September were negative, but August numbers were boosted upward from their original numbers. The UAW and GM announced they have a possible tentative settlement of their contract. If members accept it, manufacturing in November should show modest improvement based on GM and their suppliers being back in production, helping the trucking transport section. Oil complex is slipping again despite middle east tension. Grain complex show some life based on China trade negotiations, which even I believe will not happen yet. Until China knows a democrat will not get the WH they will not negotiate in good faith. Bond indexes are bottomed out for now, and showing some % increases of recent lows.
