My interpretation : September could be a buying opportunity !
Remember ; Disasters while tragic for individuals and communities can be windfalls for select companies.
I might be crazy but I am looking for DOW 30,000 by Dec 2018 - Sounds far out there but it is just a 30% gain -

As much doom and gloom that I see on CNBC every time the stock indices sell off a few consecutive days, claiming this could be the precursor of a correction we jump back up setting new highs. I admit the indices are just making incremental increases rather than large gaps upward, but this is better for the market than the big gaps up (100 point moves, etc) over a few days in a row. September looks good half way through the month for stocks, considering another hurricane.

Dow record close S&P 500 record close Nasdaq record close Transports record close Russel 2000 record close We have had a good August and September, which are usually weak to down. Now October is here and it too sometimes goes to the weak side. That said, it looks like Dow 23,000 will be here in November, early December. We now have close to a $6 a barrel differential in WTI and Brent contracts. It has been a long time since we have seen this large of a spread between them. Lumber has taken a large jump. Lean hogs are trading very low. Down from $90.85 end of July to $55.40 today. Euro remains strong against the dollar, and Canadian dollar is strengthening, probably due to commodities increasing in price.

VB, remember when I said to leave OJ on your sheet. What one little storm will do. LOL Yes, A hurricane can do wonders........last report I saw, they were estimating 40% of the crop was lost in SWFL, in the Immokolee area. They were in the direct eastern band of the eye of the storm. This area produces many of the oranges and grapefruit in Florida. There are still areas flooded and without all the power restored at this point. Many of people without power have to fix the part of the house where the electric comes from the street. There are areas of Bonita Springs flooded right now. The Imperial river is still above flood stage today. It runs through Bonita Springs to the gulf. Army corp of Engineers is releasing one billion gallons of water a day from Lake "O" into the Caloosahatchee river every day to keep the lake within it's dikes, and they say they cannot predict when they will cut back.

Dow and Nasdaq up considerably, S&P 500, Russel 500, flat, Transports are down and Utilities are up on the month. Brent and WTI up considerably over the lows and seem to beholding the gains. We have an almost $7 spread between Brent and WTI, have not seen such a spread in a long time. Natural gas basically flat, good news for the heating season so far. Gold and silver basically flat for the month. Grain commodities are flat. Big jump in live cattle and lean hogs. Ten yr is 2.20% versus 2.378% for the month. Euro down two cents on the dollar, Canadian dollar about the same amount.

Stock markets are really skittish this week. Quarterly reporting for the third qtr is basically over, and the reports have been very positive for the most part. If a company missed or suggests sluggish fourth qtr coming up, the stocks get punished in the ten percent or more range. Utility index is still trending strong, despite repeated reports interest rates are going to go up. Corn and soybeans are down slightly since Oct 31, probably on harvesting numbers coming in good this year.

The last few days have been interesting to say the least. November went out with about a 3% bump for the DOW on the month I will update the November quotes later today or tonight, but today will be interesting to see if we have a little sell off based on the rise the last few days.

Interesting month so far. The last week has been interesting, probably due ti the tax bill being almost passed. I have a hard time thinking how this coming week will turn out for the markets.
Do we sell off after the passage of the tax bill? Do we see a year end profit taking and the market drops some? Do we see a big positive week so the funds can show some great stocks in their year end portfolio reports? I believe a week from this Thursday is the last trading day to confirm settlement trades with brokerage accounts for this year in most trading accounts, so we have about seven (or is it eight) trading days to see where we stand at the end of the year

If oil prices can hold their present levels and rise from here, we will see some inflation concerns by the Fed increasing in 2018. The metal complex seems to be setting a base with gold breaking $1300 an oz so if metals and oil confirm price increases the Fed will have a legitimate reason to increase frequency of rate increases in 2018 due to inflation. Bitcoin and it's other internet currencies put a big question mark on gold. Will traders abandon gold for Bitcoins? It will be interesting to see where the stock market settles out by the end of January. I cannot decide whether the markets rise this winter due to the tax bill, or we see a sell off in January due to the tax bill.........I am leaning towards a continued upward market this winter. Grain commodity prices are not following the upward trend, so until we see price increases in these, inflation is not a confirmed reality.

Here is the two year differential to look at.The stock markets, oil complex, lumber, and international monetary markets have seen dramatic moves. The grains, oj , live cattle have not participated at the end of the two yr period, but they have seen massive moves up or down during the two year period so commodity traders had an active market to participate in. I would say we are heading into a period of some inflation, leaving the non inflation years behind.
