DH has a phone interview Monday morning. Its progress. The company is in Holland, which is a 45 minute commute, but it's a good company. I would have to take over dropoffs and pickups. I would have to find a local job due to that and getting DS1 to and from preschool.

45 min is totally doable! I hope the job works out!
Milizard, I'm an idiot, I assumed you were European but now in the US. Would you mind telling me what country you live in? If you're 45 m from Holland I'm assuming Germany or Belgium? Luxembourg would definitely be a stretch LOL.

I'm American--born here. Both of my parents were immigrants from Poland. I grew up speaking Polish with my mom and English with the rest of the family. My brother only knew Polish when he was really young, which puts him at an advantage over me vocabulary-wise. (I've read about a study on this, and, from my experience, I believe it.). Anyway, it was kind of a strange upbringing, being caught between cultures. The Holland that I'm talking about is Holland, Michigan, which reminds me, they're tulip festival should be starting soon. DH's mother was actually born in the Netherlands, so we've considered going there (to the Netherlands, as well as Poland) to visit someday.

DH has a phone interview Monday morning. Its progress Progress? Getting an interview is better than just hearing crickets chirping... However, the pay didn't justify the commute. I thought DH could add to his experience with it though. *sigh* Now he's really fretting about getting a job. UPDATE: DH submitted his resume to a job placement company. The contacted him about a couple of possibilities, but he didn't even get an interview, which he's really bummed out about. They contacted him about a temp. position which is a fairly long commute, but could add to his skills. He wants to take it if he gets it. I'm not so sure--it could delay my finishing my degree by the beginning of August to December. Our sitter is off for 2 weeks in July due to surgery. I can't miss 2 weeks of classes, which is equivalent to a month of classes during a regular semester. All the local sitters tend to take off in July, so a substitute could be really hard to get. I'm probably putting the cart before the horse here anyway. The good news is there are a lot of other job postings popping up this past week. As for me, my mom's needs are still holding me back from applying for jobs. It's nice to not worry about time wasted in Dr. offices so much, but there's a lot of time being spent on her. My brother is slightly better with helping now, but even when he does go over there, he doesn't make sure she takes her meds. She only takes a couple by herself that she thinks she needs. I really don't know what to do for a longer-term solution. I worry about going on DH's annual family long-weekend at the beach, since mom's helper doesn't come on the weekends. DB has one of his many annual fishing tournaments that weekend. And that's just one weekend...

Can your mom afford to get one of the automated pill dispensers? You could load it up on the weekend and then it dispenses at each point she should be taking them.

She could afford it, but she's stubborn so I don't think it would work for her. She's probably do just what she's doing now: picking out only the pills she thinks she needs and leaving the rest. That reminds me: the last couple of times she's had her BP tested, it was a little on the low side. When I went there this morning, I left one of the BP pills to be taken in the afternoon (instead of the whole lot in the morning). This makes me think I will take a bike ride over there to make sure she took it like she said she would...

Lizard Queen, sorry to hear that. You really have your hands full Thanks. It's just really frustrating for me right now, but I know there are people that have it much worse.

Hopefully, an unfinished deck??
He needs to do more, take more off you, in that if he did that, his mind wouldn't be as occupied with getting/not getting a job. Have him make a profile on Linkedin, network some (cant believe how many companies have looked at mine in the last few days)
Looking for work is important, but not the be all and end all, I finally sat down and decided I would job search online for an hour or two morning and night.. and have a break the rest of the time, because I have been running like a headless chicken for months for work, and now I lost all my vacation AND comp time..
omgosh I need to shut up ~ You need "Me" time, you need to lose some of your stress.
Your moms weakness, could have been CHF, or meds (altho I dont think so) possibly blood sugar?

They've been in the garage all this time while I had my car parked outside all winter. DH has a LinkedIn profile. Unfortunately, we're both pretty introverted, which makes networking and interviews difficult. My mom's really old, and wasn't very active until recently. She's moving around pretty darn good right now, though. Unfortunately, her numbers from her last blood test weren't good. She had CHF. Blood sugar was okay though, but she hadn't been eating much prior to all of this.

Meant to ask, what health insurance did you find? We have Blue Cross Blue Shield, with similar copays and deductibles than we had before with DH's insurance (actually the copay is less than what we had with my job).

My internet was out for nearly a week, but now it's back, so to catch up: DH had an interview scheduled a couple weeks ago for a job in town. He had to cancel at the last minute because he was stuck on a toilet. I know, it's bad, but what can you do in that situation? I think he might have IBS. He's got an appt. scheduled with his Dr. tomorrow. He had an interview last week with a company that is about a 40 minute commute. They want him to start immediately upon hire. The problem is, my sitter is having surgery Friday and will be off for 2 weeks. I was concerned about having to delay my graduation if I had to miss 2 weeks of summer classes, which is = to about a month during a regular semester. He called the recruiter and said he couldn't start until later. She said that they really needed someone to start next week, and he was on the top of their list! So, I told him we'd talk about it and see if we could find a sitter. Now, this time of the year seems to be the worst for sitters, because they tend to take vacations in July, so I wasn't very confident. Our neighbor runs a daycare, but has always been full whenever we called. This time, she could take them! She said that she doesn't normally do temporary gigs, but made an exception since we were neighbors. DH has his 2nd interview in about 5 minutes. I'm still not thrilled about the commute for him, but I hope he gets this job after all. I have decided to look for a part-time job in town once I'm done in August. My mom seems to be doing fabulously well, but her numbers are not good from her blood tests. (Which is devastating to me because it reminds me that her cardiologist gave her about 6 more months) The BT will continue every 2 weeks, plus she has various Dr. appts. every couple of weeks. DS1 dearly wants to go to preschool, and I'm probably going to have to pick him up and bring him to DC afterward. Hopefully, I can find a decent job that can fit around that. With all that, I can't see how I could work FT until next summer.

Fingers crossed especially since it's only a 40 minute commute!! Thanks--it worked. DH got the job! Now I'm going to have to finish the deck...and find a local job. He barely fits in my Civic (long legs), so we'll probably have to find a slightly bigger car for him. It's all good though. He was getting worried about money, so now he doesn't have to worry so much.
