I can never understand why people think their government, which they have influence over, should not make decisions for them... but its perfectly ok if corporations, who have only a profit motive guiding them, to do so...

Wow. #62 is one of the best arguments I've ever read over here. Karma for you.

I tend to agree. I'm pretty radical when you get right down to it. I'd like to see education more loose knit, and informal at the local- even sub-division, church, mosque, synagog level. Wait a minute, were you one of the posters complaining about Madrassas on the Sharia law thread? Wouldn't they be raising a generation of terrorists? I didn't complain about anything over there. I said I wouldn't worry much about it. If radicals want to train little terrorists - fine. As long as we live in a country that stands ready to defend itself by arresting, prosecuting, and if necessary- killing criminals if and when they break the law, I really don't care if some self-defeating group wants to raise sheep for the slaughter.

Does it concern you that those terrorist sheep in training are the next generation to run our country?
I'm not a huge fan of public schools, however, I also recognize that the welfare of the country requires basic literacy for our children, and a large segment of the population can not or will not ensure their children have those skills, which is where public schools come into play.
I'm a realist.
