Born ìn 51. Would not have missed to '60s and '70s for the world. Good times then and now. You're my long-lost twin, aren't you? I also spent my teens in the era of Woodstock. Some of the best music ever - Hendrix, Santana, Canned Heat, Credence, Janis Joplin, Sly & the Family Stone, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, and the list goes on --- then came the "British Invasion" - Beatles, Stones, etc.
70's/80's music was good - but 90's music basically sucks.

Absolutely the right time. Born in 1953, brought up with solid 1950s values, but by the time I got older the culture allowed for more exploration and questioning of traditional norms. The feminist movement saved my sanity. I also went to college in that golden age when BC pills were available and any STD you got could be cured with antibiotics (although I never got one). Born ìn 51. Would not have missed to '60s and '70s for the world. Good times then and now. and I knew my GGM -> she died when I was 16 (she lived to age 99) and I had many conversations with her about how things were when she was young. I had similar conversations with my both my GMs and mom I don't think I would have wanted to live those earlier periods. Sometimes I think I would have liked to be young now, but then I see how the nasty the mommy-wars have become and how often people don't have contact with others IRL any more and I change my mind right back. Life's good!

I should have been an adult in the 40s, 50s, and 60s. I rock hat wearing and fashions for those periods. My dad always told me I was born in the wrong time.

I was born in '68. I LOVED being an 80's teenager. Loved the music, the tacky glow in the dark clothes, the giant shoulder pads, the big hair & huge earrings. I still have both of my fringe jackets, my Bon Jovi blue jean w/ white fringe & my black suede fringe. *le sigh* When tv wasn't ruled by reality tv nonsense, but by Dallas & Dynasty (back to the big hair & clothes). Music rocked & a concert ticket cost $16.50. When we could just decide on a whim at 3 am to drive to the beach & watch the sun come up. The highlight of the weekend could be going to the planetarium & spending $5 to watch the Pink Floyd laser show.
count me in on one who wishes the 80's had lasted a few more years....I could have had even more fun.

Guess I have to be the stand-out. I should have been born in the early 1800's. This area would've been a boomtown once the canal opened. I'm currently living in a house from the 1830's. I've got the woodstove going for heat tonight. Earlier I made a batch of mozzarella for homemade pizza tomorrow. I've got a treadle sewing machine, and removed the add-on motor to use it as intended. I love to knit socks, etc. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool DIYer; if there is a way to do something by hand, that's what I'll try. I understand all the comments about women have more freedom, etc. now vs. the past, but don't try to tell me that women were all powerless and meek in the past. In 1880, Belva Lockwood became the first woman lawyer to argue a case before the U.S. Supreme Court. She ran for president, before women had the right to vote, and got 4100 votes!

I was born in 1944. I'm happy that I wasn't born any earlier because of the limited opportunities that women had. Higher education for women was thought of as a "waste" unless they were going into teaching or nursing. Single women were stigmatized as was any female who did not fit the June Cleaver mold. In the 60's when birth control pills came out, doctors would prescribe them only to married females. If I'd been born about 20 years later, I'd have had more opportunities. Young women today have so much more than women of my generation did. Exactly why I'm ok turning back the clock 10 years but not 20. I can't fathom not being able to get my PhD or getting fired when I show when I'm pregnant, etc. I love the stories my spouse's mom tells. She's in her 80's and has a Master's in a STEM field. I am awed by her.

I was born in 1948 and it was not a bad time. I appreciate indoor plumbing and modern freeways and technology as well as personal freedom. The future might be even better but I have seen a lot of good changes.
When I drive on a bad freeway with a rough surface I always think how the wagon trains would have loved to have paved roads and good bridges. In the 50s a road trip usually was one lane each way. I was in Seattle and we didn't have I5 so going anywhere was a road with stop lights. Now people can live in what was the country for the same commute. I saw my first computer about 1973 but didn't start using one until 1983 except that one class. I started using the internet around 1995. Hard to remember the old days but they weren't the good old days.

I frequently make comments about being born in the wrong era and only semi-joke that women's rights activists ruined my life. - Yeah, I want to work for at least 40 hours a week at a job until I can save enough money for retirement. That's a great idea. Sign me up.
I think I mostly glorify Gone With the Wind or Little House on the Prairie situations in my mind.

And more thanks goes to you and other "foremothers" who are/were the ones who gave us these opportunities. I feel the same about my DD even though her biggest accomplishment is pooping in the potty.

I was going to post earlier about the "Little House on the Prairie" era. While that show and GWTW romanticized the eras and made it all look wonderful, truth is, those were hard times. Life on the prairies in the 1800's or early 1900's, or during the colonial era, or Civil War times of GWTW was rough - especially if you weren't "upper class" like Scarlett - with servants and the luxuries of the times. It was survival of the fittest.

I absolutely LOVE castles and the dresses from the 1500-1700's. But no way in hell would I want to go back to that time, not even as a rich person. Women had no rights & were most likely to die way early in childbirth. Count me out...but I still love castles & the clothes.

I would never want to live in any era where they didn't have birth control. And I don't mean the pull out method. I want little pills that I take every day. Those worked for me with no side effects. Thank God for modern medicine! And now I have little pills for menopause. Not one hot flash since I've gone on them. Whoot! I don't know how there weren't more murders in the old days. I am surprised any men survived those times!

The women frequently died in childbirth so the menfolk didn't have menopausal wives.

Or a mental institution. But I can kind of see why. and if you were just bitchy, he could send you back to your family & then they would put you in a nunnery. Pray the bitching away.

I know both of those time periods (GWTW, Little House) were actually hard for most people, so I don't mean that they would actually be better times. In my mind, I just kind of wish for the simpler times aspects of them. I'd probably be pretty happy to have crashed on the island in "Lost". I really would love nothing better than to just hunt/gather for myself and not care about bills, taxes, etc.

Love being born when I was. Can look back and see all the changes, advances in everything from technology, social issues, the music scene, the good, the bad, and the ugly too. The list could go on and on. And when some of you young kiddos are my age, I hope you can look back and think WOW I am glad I grew up during those times.

Nope. Any earlier and I'd lose my job because I'm pregnant and I'd have no recourse. Or I would have been canned as soon as I got married since the assumption would be I don't "need" a job. I probably wouldn't even be doing this job or would have had a lot harder time blazing my path since girls weren't expected to be in science. Wait...WHAT? You're pregnant? CONGRATS!!!!!!
