I've never wanted to part with mine, but I think I'm finally ready. I'd like to get back into it, take a picture as proof that it happened- and then have a quilt made with some of the fabric. I guess that would mean I still wouldn't get rid of it, but at least we might get some use out of it.

I am not a white wedding dress type at all... I got married in an Ann Taylor sundress, which I still have. I'll wear it again in a few months when I can Fit into it again...

Mine is in a closet somewhere…or maybe a box in my inlaws garage? I didn't have it boxed up professionally and it wasn't brand new to start with, so it's not nice enough anymore for anyone else to use. I love the idea of making it into a quilt! It would make a nice soft baby quilt for the next baby.

I never had one
I got married in regular clothes.
I'd make a quilt out of it if I did have one.

Mine is sealed in plastic in a box in a drawer. Could not ever get rid of it because I would always think my daughters would want to see it when they got married.

Kept it in the closet for a few years. I honestly can't remember if it was before or after I split with ex, but probably after- threw it in the washer, gathered up the pearls that had fallen off and put them in a baggie. Hung it to dry, then sent it off to Goodwill.
It was a nice dress and all, but I was never going to wear it again. Ex and I didn't have any kids and even if DD was interested in a dress from a wedding to a man who was not her father, it would never have fit her. I was tiny.

Threw bacon grease on it, let the dog play "tug o' war" with it, used the remnants to sop up an oil spill in the garage and then burned it.

I had to start googling ideas and found one on pinterest that was a quilt and teddy bear. So freaking cute!
I'm not sofisticated enough to paste a link on my phone but I just searched wedding dress quilt and it was one of the first ones on pinterest.

Got it professionally cleaned and it is at my parents' house. I love that dress so much that I don't think I could ever part with it. I just wish I had somewhere I could wear it again!
I only got married four years ago, so maybe that is why I am still so attached. Plus it was just super awesome, and gold/peach.

This one, rae? So adorable!! Yes! If I was making it for the kids I would totally do that. I'd like to make a bedspread for our bed though. A reminder that at one time I really liked dh.

Had it cleaned and boxed up over 29 years ago. It's up in the rafters. Don't think DD will want to wear it.
I suggested to my SIL that they use her wedding gown to make a baptismal gown for the first grandchild. It came out very nice.

Had mine cleaned and stored in closet. On the notion that my future daughters would want to wear it. My DD22 has no plans to get married anytime soon, and the dress likely could not be modified from a A up top to a D (or larger )up top. DS21 will likely get married soon, but is future wife is 13 inches shorter than me DS19 also has steady GF, but she is built more like my DD than me. So will just leave it in the closet for now.

That thought really appealed to me, but I've yet to follow through on it. It's too late for DS, but we do at some point in the future plan to have another child, so I think it'd be cool to use my wedding dress to make a baptismal gown. Currently, my dress is just hanging in the back of DS's closet.

Mine got taken apart (carefully) and the pieces were used to make a baptismal gown. It's an old-world thing . . . .

I didn't get a white wedding dress. Mine was a rose blush hue. I got it shortened to a dress size and wore it many times. I still have it in my closet.

My mother took it and had it preserved in a box before I could even decide if I wanted to do a rock the dress photo session. I was so pissed, swear she did it on purpose. I told her I appreciated her doing it (saved me the $100 to do it), but that it would be getting un-preserved if I decide I want to play with it again. I like it and will probably hang onto it, but it's only been 2.5 years so we'll see!

The first two were donated to a local church, which donated them to brides to be that didn't have dresses- in fact because the one was a custom dress, the church seamstress was able to make it over for several brides. (My grandmother made it) The third time I wore an LBD and wore it until it died- the dress lasting longer than the marriage....
The next time I plan on marrying Mr. Bear and looking like one of those runway models in a half-dressed Pnina Tourne that costs more than my car....

Mine was cleaned after the wedding and sealed in a garment bag after the wedding. It hung in my closet for ** years. As my brothers started families (which included some nieces) I thought one of them might want to have it. As they grew into teens and eventually finding their "true loves", the styles had changed dramatically for bridal gowns. They wanted their own "special" dresses.
Mine would have been perfect for anyone in need of a dress that couldn't afford a new one, but I ended up saving the veil plus some of the lace & beading for future sewing projects/crafts, and turned the dress into a "Bride of Frankenstein" Halloween costume for a corporate Halloween party and then it got sold to a costume shop.
It wasn't an expensive custom made dress to start with. It was very beautiful, but it was "off the rack" since I'm a pretty easy fit - and the price wasn't a wallet-breaker bought new. Even if it got used a couple of times as a costume, it was better than just trashing it.
I got a few $$ for it, and otherwise it would have eventually ended up in a landfill anyway. At least some use may have been gained from it after my big day when I wore it.

I am not sure why people think that their children would want their old wedding dresses. Styles change and from I gathered most women want to pick their own dress.
I picked a off the rack white dress online. It wasn't a wedding dress. it just was a flowy off white silk dress.
I got it shortened to wear as a summer /spring dress.
the dress cost $350, and the alteration cost & $50. I thought I looked quite pretty on my wedding day.

I have mine in the box to keep it all pretty in the closet until I decide what to do with it.
I have a wedding i'm going to be in in June (bridesmaid) and i'm hoping that after that one I can find a good seemstress to help me change both my wedding dress and my bridesmaid dress to make them more conservative since I'm LDS now and both are a bit flashy-ier than I would wear now.
I'm going to have so much fabric taken off just to hem the dress that I think I might be able to make something happen with the 2 dresses to add some sleeves and coverage after the events... But we will see.
For now, mine is in a box.

I just put the big box with the preserved dress in a storage unit with our Christmas decorations. When my daughter gets married, she can take it and play with it, or rip it up and use the bodice, or leave it in the box and I will put it in my will to go to a Granddaughter or great-granddaughter. Maybe it will be vintage cool by then. Either that, or it will be a giant pain in the ass to my family tree, and they will say "Grandma Thyme sure was a pain in the ass." And that is okay, too. If I could go back in time, I'm not sure I would change my decision, but I figure I have kept it this long, no reason to backtrack now.

The first of us sisters to get married used my mom's dress material to make her own. The seamstress did a wonderful job. You never would have known they were the same dress. Mom was sort of blindsided though -- she thought sis was going to have it taken out, not taken apart! But after she got over the shock Mom did realize that the dress has been sitting in a box in her closet for 25 years and at least she got to do something with it. Mine is hanging in our cedar closet. IDK if DD is going to want to wear it but she has played dress-up in it a couple of times (we both have!)

Mine is in the front hall closet. I never got it cleaned. I had the train whacked off because I didn't want one. It was one of the few wedding details I had a definite opinion on. My Mom used the train fabric to make stuff. I think the last piece came to my house with a bunch of other fabrics for the kids to play with. They liked stuffing fabric into and out of an old wipes container. I think Mom made some baby doll blankets out of it, when the assorted nieces were asking for them but I honestly don't know. Mom thought it was a lovely fabric, which is why she asked for the train after the seamstress whacked it off. I did/do love my wedding dress though. But the only reason I still have it procrastination and laziness.

I gave away (to charity) the dress from my first wedding after I was divorced and was moving out of state. It was not a traditional wedding dress but an off the rack formal.
My last wedding dress is in my closet.

I am not sure why people think that their children would want their old wedding dresses. Styles change and from I gathered most women want to pick their own dress. If I get married while the show is still on, my mom and I talked about going on Something Borrowed, Something New. A seamstress takes a dress mom/grandma/whoever wants the woman to wear and completely remakes it, then a guy takes her shopping to find her ideal dress new. At the end she picks between the two. Some of the remakes have been absolutely gorgeous, and some downright awful. Especially if the show picks up the tab if you pick new, I want to go on that show!
