Peace Local store here has boneless, skinless chk breasts on sale this week for $1.69/lb. I do prett6y much the same stuff you do w/ chicken PLUS fajitas and stroganoff.
Later I found out all our good restaurants use chicken broth in their french onion soup so I do it that way.
NO COOKING tonight. Going out w/a friend.
Having computer 'issues' at home. Not sure when I'll be on again.

Burgers and fries tonight - ground beef was $3.99/lb (80/20 grind) and that is cheap for around here. Tater tots were a 2/1 special. I get a salad; DH gets the tots. Tomorrow is supposed to be really cold, so we have some homemade gourmet soups we got at a local farmers market. The soups come in 10 ounce containers, and it was a buy 2/get one free. DH ate the freebie already, and so we have the other two (split pea and mushroom barley) for lunch tomorrow. Saves me time tonight; I won't have to fix lunch for tomorrow, so I can do laundry and get the rest of my notary application (the good character portion) filled out with the help (I hope) of a neighbor who actually thinks I have good character.

GS1's 29th birthday dinner at Cracker Barrel. I had the light pepper sirloin steak with fruit. The high calorie was the baked sweet potato and a corn muffin. It's fun with 7 family members there.
One thing I didn't like was I felt the manager did an RFID on me when I was leaving. I think everything is in aluminum except library cards. They are in a duct tape lined wallet. Sorry Azhat.

Tonight, we will be having fish, sweet potatoes, and snacking veggies.... not sure how i'm cooking the sweet potatoes yet... I might roast them in diced cubes.

Fri 1/24/14 Dinner tonight is SUPER cheap. I am doing a veggie pasta dish of whole wheat pasta, roasted grape tomatoes and chopped green & black olives topped w/some olive oil. Cost = 0.64. I will add a spinach salad so total cost is still under $1.
Rest of today’s meals are cheap too: Rye toast & cottage cheese, 2 clementines 1 Egg w/a bit of ham & cheddar cheese, veg.

Tonight is chicken melts because i have to work till 9pm.
I take a can or chicken, dice a whole onion, add salt, pepper, and then fat free greek yogurt until it looks right... and then I'll take some of that and shove it on some bread with some cheese in the toaster oven...
and some fruit.
Hubs will eat the same thing at home after he's off work.

I'm baking a pork chop (1 large one is enough for the two of us) from the market's use-or-freeze-by bin that was 50% off. We'll share a sweet potato and I'm stewing greens from the garden.

tonight I'm having a rotisserie leg/thigh quarter (no skin), with steamed broccoli and saffron rice. $1.25 1/4 roti chicken $0.24 half a broccoli crown $0.33 1/3 of a $1 bag of Carolina yellow rice
$1.82 total
*this total is high if we're being really accurate w/calcs because while I eat, I'm boiling off the carcass to make stock - to be used in the tortellini soup I'm going to make Sunday.
ETA: this is the soup recipe - link a) I'd like to close the window and still be able to quickly find the link b) it sounds awesome, and I wanted to share I'm tweaking it by using chicken stock since I don't like beef base soups, and I don't have chives.

I'll have a salad with one of today's meals too.

Well, my meal plan for the week is almost totally out the window. It is SOOOO cold here I am in the middle of making a pot of black bean soup & have just finished a pot of chicken soup. I'll be eating one or the other at least 1x/day for, probably, the rest of the week.

didn't make the best food choices Sun/Mon, need to get back on track for my weight loss challenge.
dinner last night was a crock of chili and a side Caesar salad, out at the bar for trivia. cost $8
dinner tonight is likely going to be baked fish with a big green salad. $2-3 - fish, depending which kind looks good in the case $1 - salad greens plus veggies, all already in the fridge

Tonight split pea soup with French baguette Dried peas - 99c Diced Onion - 39c Smoked Ham Hocks - 2.69 Seasonings - say 25c (vegeta, cumin, pepper) Bakery baguette - 1.49 We'll easily get 6-8 meals out of it at .75c-$1.00 a meal. I could make this cheaper if I use liquid smoke and ham instead of the ham hocks, but felt like splurging

I lurk on this thread because there are always some great ideas and meals I haven't tried.
I stopped by to say Iggy - I tried the sesame chicken recipe you posted and it was really good!
I will certainly make it again. May tweak the sauce a bit - maybe a little less soy and more sesame oil, maybe a bit more rice vinegar? But either way, it was yum.

We arrived safely back home after a miserable drive from Florida. It sure would have been nice if the state had notified drivers in advance that I-10 was closed for over 200 miles east and west bound.....but now back to reality.
We braved the cold, rain and fog this AM for a trip to WMT. We had little in the way of any type food in the house. $257 dollars later, we bought about half of what we actually needed. The Super Bowl shopping was dreadful and the people doing the restocks had their hands full.
We will go back next week to finish off WMT and then hit the Fresh Market for some good meat and poultry.
I bought a Le Creuset cook book and can't wait to try some of the recipes. I'm starting tomorrow to use my 7.5 qt dutch over to make a triple batch of chili. Can't wait.

Tonight is a snacky meal in honor of Super Bowl;
I boiught humos and pretzels this week for $1 each but multiple servings in each so cost here is prob 0.50-0.75.
I am making taco pie as my entree. Cost per serving is $1.35 (will have 3 servings for the fridge/freezer) and use 3 corn tortillas for 0.10 more.
