Sounds like a quick, reasonable result. Glad it's working out.

Smart to look at it like that. So many people spend so much time wrapped around the axle about things they can't change, they screw up the things they can change. Here's my general outlook on life:
Can I do anything to change the situation? Yes, then do it. No, then stop worrying, suck it up, and do what you can do to mitigate the damage.

It sucks but in the end it's $1k. You can get another $1k. It could have been much worse. So what color is the new van?

After googling the color, I understand the face. That particular shade of blue would not be my first choice.

Explain to me why it wouldn't make sense to have it fixed? I would talk to a good collision place and or ask the dealership about it.
Was the frame bent?

I'm not comfortable having it fixed with the amount of damage it sustained. I did talk to a very good collision place, and they were willing to fix it, but they never seem quite right after that amount of damage.
The axle pierced the transmission case, and the firewall was dented. They said the frame was not bent, but it still makes me nervous.

Got it. It'll probably cost you a few grand but your peace of mind is more important, and, well, it's just the cost of "doing business".

Some things are worth paying for. $1100 to release the lien is $1100 well spent in my book.

I bought a new van via phone from the place I bought the one that was wrecked. I pick it up tomorrow. They were very accommodating. I had to pay an extra $1100 to pay off my lien and I will get the $200 deductible back in a few weeks.
I got about $17,000 from the insurance company for damages and $6500 from a salvage guy. He picked it up Wednesday. Get gap coverage this time!

I googled the color, too. That's some kind of blue, that is . But, you will be able to find it in the parking lot. It's kind of a sunshine state color. I think the new van should be named " Bluey."

I kinda like that color swamp! I had never even heard of gap insurance until I lost my newish car in a flood in 2006. I had to pay about $2300 to pay it off. You'd better believe I got gap insurance on the next car. It really wasn't that expensive. A couple hundred $ for the life of the loan. I don't have it now, but after going through that, it seemed like money well spent at the time.

If it was totaled, I would have gotten enough to pay off the lien. I'm making enough of a down payment that I will have equity when I driveit off the lot.
