Value Buy: the wheel came off a moving trailer, flew up in the air and come down near me. The wheel buzz sawed the front end of my van. It was the tire and the rim. 3' diameter. I was on a 2 lane highway 55 speed limit. I was going east, truck was going west. No median between the lanes. Damn, I thought it was retread, and that was bad enough, but the whole thing? Just glad you are ok.

So have you figured out to how parlay this into some tiny advantage?
Not having to do stuff around the house and/or getting out of social outings you want to skip for a few days comes to mind. Be creative. I have a bruise on my boob from the seatbelt. He's going to rub it for me. Oh, yes, very helpful. Hate to break it to you, but your DH is better at finding a way to work the situation to his advantage than you are.

Wait, who is rubbing your boob While DH is at work?
I so hope you are better soon, and so thankful it wasn't worse!

Well, everyone's already said what I wanted to, which was "Holy c**p!" and glad you're (relatively) OK.

Dang woman. Take care of yourself! My late-DH's friend's mother was driving here locally one day and a ladder fell off of a truck at highway speed. The ladder came through her windshield and decapitated her. I always avoid following work trucks since that. Dang.....

So I am borrowing my dads truck until my car is fixed or I get a new one (whether or not it's is totaled is up for debate right now. The fire wall is damaged is its probably totaled). First I had to break off the 6 inches of ice on it. Then the gas tank was almost empty. And the inspection expired 4 months ago.

So glad you weren't seriously hurt. It sucks that it was your new car, but the car can be replaced. Take care of yourself.

Glad you are OK Swamp and sorry it had to be this vehicle instead of the one you had wanted trashed.
Thank you for posting more details on the accident as I was wondering how it happened and whether it was an entire tire, retread, and how it ended up in your path. Glad to hear it hit the van instead of coming through the windshield.
Did you even have time to think or say 'Oh shit!' before it hit tha van?

I am always wary behind any truck with anything in the back or behind landscaping trucks. Once I was just about to pass one and the entire rear wheel fell off it. I'm sure it scared the guy driving the truck, but having a tire and a bunch of metal come flying at you while you have no where to go to get away is scary. Fortunately there was no one travelling too close behind me when I slammed my brakes on in the middle of the highway. I was happy to know that I didn't react by jerking the wheel.

Swamp - Wow! that was way too close. Glad you weren't more seriously hurt. I'm curious - what happened to the truck that lost it's tire ? How about the truck driver - is he ok?

Doesn't your insurance Co. provide you with a rental vehicle? It's good that your Dad's truck is available but a rental might have been a good way to see what type of vehicle you might want for a replacement.

With 2 kids and all the snow we get, um, no. My parents leave for FL in 2 weeks, then I will have their Equinox. I will have it until the end of April, so I'm in no hurry to do something. The rental is only for 30 days. I know I'm getting to get another Honda odyssey if I have to replace it.

I had an insurance company try that on me when I drove a minivan. made them provide a minivan rental.

This is stressful enough and I'm juggling too many balls right now with the rest of my life. I'm going to take the path of least resistance and drive my parents vehicles. They're fine with it. They don't need 2 vehicles. My mom rarely drives anymore so dad planned on selling the truck anyway. The equinox would just sit in the garage when they're in FL for 3 months.

also remember to replace any carseats/booster seats that were in your car (which should also be paid for by the other insurance company).
