It looks like Phil Robertson's suspension from "Duck Dynasty" may be just for show. Entertainment Weekly learned that on Jan. 15, A&E will begin airing new episodes of the show that include scenes featuring the "Dynasty" patriarch.

"The network also hopes the media and fan furor will cool down over the holidays and that tensions over shooting future episodes can then be resolved," Entertainment Weekly reports. “There’s no negotiation to have; we’re doing the show,” an inside source told them.

A&E suspended Robertson over anti-gay remarks he made in a GQ profile. The duck hunter-turned-TV star compared homosexuality to bestiality and also said, “It seems like, to me, a vagina -- as a man -- would be more desirable than a man’s anus." Robertson responded to backlash about his comments by saying, "I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me."

After A&E's suspension, Robertson's friends and family came out in support of him. Sources told E! News that the family was "very serious" about leaving the reality show after Robertson was placed on hiatus. "[Phil] is the reason for their success—they're not going to abandon him. They're also not about to let anyone threaten their religious beliefs," the source told E!. The family released a statement on the Duck Commander website saying, "We are disappointed that Phil has been placed on hiatus for expressing his faith."


Well....that didnt last very long now, did it?

i guess A&E figured out the profits from the show outweigh the noise from the left

A&E said from the beginning of this debacle Mr. Robertson was on hiatus and the previously filmed episodes would be shown as planned, gdgyva.  This isn't a change from their original position, as far as I can tell from articles I've read.  They'd said these episodes would be shown and that discussions would take place before the new season filming begins.

I thought so, too, gdgyva, but I think mmhmm is right.  Those shows for the new season were, most likely, taped long before this incident.  Still though?  Isn't much of a "statement" from A & E, is it?  "He's suspended but we are still going to air the shows...with him in it." 

Sounds to me like they are, like the article stated, going to hope this all blows over before it's time to tape the next season.  In the meantime, they can say, "Hey.  Those shows were already taped.  It's the NEXT season where he is really in trouble!  Fear not, GLAAD!  We are on your side (as long as you are mad).  Christians!  We are on your side, too.  See?  He's still on TV!"

We'll see.  Honestly?  I wouldn't want to be in their position right now.  They are screwed no matter which way they go.

I kinda think A&E would like to keep the show going, but don't want to break their own commitments with regard to presenting material that isn't offensive to any group.  Their practice has been to support the gay community (not in particular, but along with all groups of people), according to what their management has said.  Looks to me like they're going to need to sit down with the family involved and come to some sort of agreement that doesn't impinge on either side of the issue.  That will be much easier done, IMO, when the smoke has cleared a bit.

It's reality TV, not a scripted (even though we know it is- just table that idea for a sec and hear me out) series so their ultimate disclaimer is that we are bringing you who these people really are.  After all, isn't this the same outfit that brought us "Growing Up Gotti"?  I mean, c'mon.  Can't they just issue the standard disclaimer: the views expressed on Duck Dynasty (especially those views expressed elsewhere by those members of the Robertson family) are not necessarily the views of A&E, the management, etc?

And of course they didn't really do anything- they've wrapped Season 4, they're going to air it so all they really did was piss everyone off-- LGBT people aren't stupid, they know that A&E isn't taking the show off the air; and of course they pissed off the show's audience who really don't give a crap and/or agree with what Phil has to say in a GQ interview.

It was reactionary.  These people aren't normal people- they're TV execs.  They are basically idiots- regardless of their ideology.

so the show is offensive? or the interview that one of the show's stars did was offensive?

i am sorry if it upsets some, but everyone is ENTITLED to have their own opinion

he voiced his.....in a magazine article....he didnt direct it towards any one individual

the show has always shown the family as religious, and very family orientated

i just dont think they can kill the proverbial "golden goose"

A&E doesnt have many shows with big draws.....taking Phil off will kill this one....the family will walk

I'm not sure his suspension was 100% punishment.  I think that now that this thing has gotten big, there is no way to ignore it on the show, and they don't want to give him a wide platform to say more stuff like this - but now on their dime.  The episodes they have already filmed and likely already edited are contained and controlled.  They already know what he says during those episodes.  They don't have to worry about his remarks.

That said, if they really, really wanted to, they could get enough footage so they wouldn't have to show him saying anything they didn't want him to say.  So - it is partly for the appearance of distance.

Before this hoopla, I never gave DD much thought.  I would look at their merchandise in stores and laugh and wonder who the hell would buy the stuff...never saw the show and knew nothing about them.  Now i plan on watching the show to see what it is all about.  I'm sure I will get bored with it (I am neither outdoorsy nor into guys with beards!) but I feel invested in it, now

Louisiana Governors office has said if Duck Dynasty wants to A&E, they would actively help them sign with another network......Don't really think they need any help.....Probably have a half dozen banging on the door already.

shakespearean or Shakespearean? homeric or Homeric? Now both of those adjectives are based on personal names, but there is also a specific corpus in mind in the case of each, as in the case of biblical or Biblical. I usually see the former, but quite often the latter occurs.

The SBL (Society of Biblical Literature) Handbook prefers lowercase biblical (App. A, p. 154), following the Chicago Manual of Style, where we find recommended “Bible; biblical” (14th ed. §7.87; p. 269). Here’s what the CMS says about capitalization of religious names and terms:


In few areas is an author more tempted to overcapitalize or an editor more loath to urge a lowercase style than in religion. That this is probably due to unanalyzed acceptance of the pious customs of an earlier age, to an unconscious feeling about words as in themselves numinous, or to fear of offending religious persons is suggested by the fact that overcapitalization is seldom seen in texts on the religions of antiquity or more recent localized, relatively unsophisticated religions. Is is in the contexts of Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism that we go too far. Thank you, mmhmm.  I don't agree, but thanks for the response.  We weren't talking about an era here - or just a plain noun, as I believe the SBL was referring to.  We were talking directly about the booik, which in that case, it should be capitalized.  It was clearly, in this case, a proper noun - and proper nouns should be capitalized.
