There are reports coming out of another school shooting in Centennial, Colorado (right near Littleton/Columbine).
How many more times do we have to watch kids running from a school with an active shooter before we pull our heads out of our asses? How many dead kids makes it worth your gun rights?
I'm so SICK of seeing/reading/hearing about school shootings. Enough is fucking enough already!

Yes Arapahoe High School. Local news is in overdrive. 2 shot, 1 critical that tried to stop the shooter. Latest is shooter is dead from self inflicted wound.

Arapahoe County Sheriff is giving a news conference right now and said that the shooter entered the school and asked the specific location of a particular teacher. That teacher heard that he was the target of the shooter so he immediately left the school in hopes that the shooter would follow him out without hurting anyone. Unfortunately it did not happen that way but very smart and quick thinking on the teachers part.

I only skimmed the headlines, but Steff what do you think should be done? I'm not sure what gun rights are impacting in any noticeable way on gun violence. The headline I read implied the person was targeting a specific teacher. In other school shootings including Columbine the guns were obtained legally but taken without permission from their legal owners. I'm not pro-guns, but I'm not pro-regulations that will do nothing to solve the problem. Even barring parents from owning guns while their kids are under 18 wouldn't prevent everything. Look at the theater shooting. I don't see a total gun ban happening in this country like that one Scandinavian country so while I don't like this, I don't think we can prevent it totally or expect to.
Some people are violent. Some people are stupid. Far too many people think killing someone else will solve their issues. Some only figure out how wrong they are after they've killed someone like today.

I was just reading that. I hope those that were injured have a full recovery and I prefer it when the perp does away with themselves so nobody has to kill them and then live with that. So sad!

Why are so many of these school shootings happening in Colorado?
Colorado has legalized recreational pot.
This is my best guess.

Not knowing the circumstances of this case, but parents have got to be watching and listening to their children more than they seem to do in many of these cases. Don't be afraid to talk to your children and get them help or at least evaluated if you think they are psychologically troubled.

Why are so many of these school shootings happening in Colorado? Must be the high altitude -- lack of oxygen to the brain.

Interesting that this shooting happened on the same day that the Newtown parents are holding a vigil in Washington, D.C. and urging Congress to act on means to control guns. At the minimum, there should be universal background checks. And a ban of assault weapons.

Gallows humor is okay. It relieves stress.
Still waiting though on the marijuana response seeing the Columbine High School shooting and the Aurora movie theater shooting took place before marijuana was legalized.

THANK YOU, Tenn.. holy shit. i'm just floored at the idea that recreational pot use is to blame. The 2 school shooters wouldn't have been able to (legally) buy the pot anyway, though that never stops people from getting it if they want it.
and there is nothing about pot use by the theater shooter either.. he was on a bunch of prescription stuff though. but yeah. go ahead and blame it on the legalized pot.

Not only that but it actually doesn't become legal until 1/1/14. I know that is not the point but it is just sad that someone would post something like that not even knowing the facts.

This is my best guess. I can't even begin to fathom why you would post this. Didn't you know pot was legal in Connecticut, and especially popular around the Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newtown? Pot is also legal in Virginia (has been for years) and legally sold at the Virginia Tech college bookstore.

I smoked pot twice in my life-I sat like a stoned stone Buddha both times. I had my drug of choice though-I looked like I had been eating sugar dusted donuts for years.
But then I grew up.

Only one person to blame here.
But, for those of us that want sensible gun regulations this illustrates the point- he had a shotgun- not an AR-15 with a 50 or 100 round magazine that is the normal choice for people out to commit mass murder and succeed. He was 18- so Federal law says he is legal to buy a shotgun- even thought CO law has no such age restriction. The only thing that could have stopped this is school security- and he waltzed on campus with a shotgun so it could not have been that effective. Lucky the only death was his.

That was funny! I did it twice before reading further posts and getting into the article. Thank heavens no one died but the perp. This has nothing to do with gun access but everything to do with unstable minds. I was bullied in HS and also had teachers that I felt purposely went out of their way to make things harder for me. I knew where my parents kept their weapons and they sure weren't locked in a safe, no one did that then. The thought of killing anyone never occurred to me. I wished some of my tormentors dead but doing it myself? No way.

Yes, its almost as ridiculous as blaming guns...or gun owners. Not quite. He shot people with the intent of killing them with a gun. Not with or for drugs. If he had we'd be blaming drug dealers, easy access, and the recent legislation changes.

If he had we'd be blaming drug dealers, easy access, and the recent legislation changes. but you can't blame guns, in and of themselves for that. You can only blame that one gun owner for deciding that killing the teacher who kicked him off the debate team was the solution to the problem.
And, incidentally, only one person was actually shot according to the news I saw this morning, and that's the girl who's in critical condition. I get the sense that the kid really only wanted to shoot the teacher, not everyone else. If he was intending a rampage, there would have certainly been more victims as he went looking for the teacher.

I'm not a hard core gun control person, but we WOULD blame access to pot/drugs if that were involved. Acting like guns have nothing to do with these incidents makes no sense to me.
