A long long time ago, I got to meet Captain Lou Albano, and Tokey Hill, and get their autographs. DW and I would love to go to a Trek convention. A friend who goes regularly has gotten us some autographs. ...:::"Used to see Robert Redford coming and going from what was the Gulf and Western building.":::... Yes, but do you have your car painted where his car gets painted?

I have never met anyone famous.....but my uncle has worked for a high-end resort for the past 20 years (many of those years in security). He escorted Pink Floyd to the Hard Rock Cafe, played golf with Michael Jordan, met Tiger Woods, Madonna, Britney Spears, Harrison Ford, and probably many, many more.

I've met Frank McCourt as well - he was a former teacher at my high school and came to visit my English class. This was back in the 90's.
Reader, it looks like we went to the same HS! I graduated in 1976 (many moons ago lol)

Oh, I forgot that Kurt Vonnegut's son was ODS's English teacher one year. Does that count?
And, I KNOW you will all be so very jealous about this one, but I met our very own...Malarky!!!!! (And survived -- she is not a serial killer trolling the interwebs for naive, unsuspecting suburbanites as her next victims). Far from it. As fun and funny as she is on the boards.

A couple of more: I used to live in the same town as Doris Kearns Goodwin and would see her around town on a regular basis. She and her husband would regularly eat lunch or dinner in one of the small, local restaurants.
Former Red Sox Manager Dan Duquette attended the same church as I did when he was working for the Sox. His wife is a really wonderful, down-to-earth, devout Catholic who taught religious education and was active in the parish.

I forgot to mention Ian Tyson (got his autograph after a show in a very small venue). If you know Cowboy Poetry or western music (NOT country music), then you know Ian Tyson. The man is a legend and still touring.
Also, I was an extra in a movie that starred Alfre Woodard (that was never released).
Forget Kevin Bacon. Between John De'Lancie and Alfre Woodard, I am only step away from Sir Patrick Stewart twice over.

A girl I graduated from HS with (and am facebook friends with) is a Dancer in Vegas. She just choreographed the big welcome dance thing they did last night when Britney Spears arrived in Vegas. The You Tube clip shows her dancing and posing in pictures next to Britney. When I saw that I thought of this thread. She may get to met fancy people but it's usually while wearing a thong and not much else so I'm ok with my dull, fully clothed, Midwestern life

I'd say the most famous people I've met were either George Clooney or Hillary Clinton. Met Hillary when my 8th grade was touring the Capitol and she stopped to talk to us, and met George when they premiered The Perfect Storm one town over from me and my friends & I went, waited all day, ended up behind the tape right at the front of the red carpet, and got his autograph (and Marky Mark too). I have pictures to prove it! I've also met Patrick Stewart (at a convention) who I totally fan-girled over... he was worth the money! I like meeting famous people, whether by accident or calculated stalking or paying at conventions! When I was 7 or 8, my family went to an outdoor concert at a festival that a singer my mom loved was performing at. (I can't remember her name... Judy Collins? Judy someone I think? I have no idea) Anyway, she was signing autographs after the show but my mom didn't want to go wait. Since I was small and was a cute kid, I scooted in there and got her autograph for mom. It's been downhill from there One of my mom's best famous person stories - she lived in Germany until she was 5ish because her dad was stationed over there, this was in the late 50s. Story has it that Elvis served under her father and actually had dinner at their house one time. Mom's hated Elvis her whole life so I joke he must've traumatized her somehow

Ken O'brien's (former Jets QB) younger sister was a year behind me in school (he also had a sister who was 2 years ahead of me) and we carpooled with the family for years.
Sold undies to Jerry Rice (for Mrs. Rice) when I was working at Victoria's Secret. He was so polite and took the time to sign autographs for every person who approached him in the mall.
Also sold undies to various members of the Kings (not stated was the name of the gift recipient).
The Sachs brothers went to my grade school.
I interned for Mayor Gulliani in law school.

Got Ray Bradbury's autograph at a booksigning when I was a teenager.
Met Jim Lovell at his restaurant in Lake Forest, IL on my 21st birthday.
Can't think of anyone else.

Is he nice? It's the old idea of six degrees of separation- there are only 6 people between you and anyone else in the world. In Hollywood/movies, it's usually done with Kevin Bacon. I don't care about Kevin Bacon. Patrick Stewart, on the other hand.... What I am saying is that because I have met both John De'Lancie (who played Q on TNG) and Alfre Woodard (who was in First Contact), I am only 1 degree of separation away from Patrick Stewart through two different paths.

Dentzel Washington - it's kind of a funny story. I was living in NYC at the time, and my office was kitty-corner to Rockefeller Center, where they film live Today Show footage. There would often be a concert or some other event in progress as I walked by. This particular morning, I wasn't paying attention and basically clocked poor Dentzel as he was getting out of his car. I didn't notice who he was at first, because I really plowed into him and almost fell over, so I was trying to get my balance and he kind of grabbed my elbow to help. I apologized profusely and finally noticed who was helping me up! He asked if I was okay and I stuttered something moronic and thanked him. I felt stupid but it was kind of cool since I've always been a huge fan. Not sure if it counts as meeting him, though

I've met some local t.v. celebrities, & our state Senator, but really no one well-known nationally.
DH, on the other hand, has met several professional baseball players, pro golfers, & a professional wrestler. Each time, he was simply in the right place at the right time.

Is George clooney as short as they say he is? He didn't seem abnormally short, however a) I was 16, and b) Danny Devito was also there and boy... that guy is as short as they say! (I can post some pics later from home probably, I has them!)

My dad has met a lot of famous people though. Enough to get me several degrees closer to Kevin Bacon Oh! Hubs is a few degrees from Kevin Bacon! His grandparents attended the same Quaker meeting as KB's parents. Oh, I'm a few degrees from Kevin Bacon too! I have a cousin who worked as a nanny for Harrison Ford. Harrison Ford was in The Devil's Own with Brad Pitt. Brad Pitt was in Sleepers with Kevin Bacon. So from me to Kevin Bacon is four degrees! And all of you are fives! Whoo hoo, you rock!! Oh wait, I'm a second degree from Brad Pitt. So scratch Harrison Ford. I have a co-worker who's brother and sister-in-law have been good friends with Brad Pitt's parents since long before Brad was famous. She has met Brad several times. So that makes me three degrees from Bacon, and you all are fours, unless you have an even closer way!! I also have a cousin who is married to a cousin of Keanu Reeves. But I don't see how that would be any better. (And BTW, Brad is not considered the good-looking son. He has a brother whom my co-worker says is waaaaay cuter.)

I know I am late to this thread. When I lived in Seattle back in the 90's they were filming The Vanishing up there and I worked for the rental car company that provided the cars for the stars and crew. They were short a car so I had to drive one up to the set and then of course had to get back to the airport so I caught a ride with one of the producers who was taking Sandra Bullock to the airport after she finished shooting her part. She is everything people say she is, very sweet and down to earth (BTW this was before she hit super stardom). The producer also invited me back that night to watch them shoot and have dinner with them. I met Jeff Bridges, Kiefer Sutherland, Nancy Travis and Rob Lowe (his wife was the make up artist). It was great fun and my old ratty car was parked across the street from the scene they were shooting and made it into the movie for about 2 seconds.

No way in hell is George clooney 5'11". DF is 6'1" and he said George was shorter than most women. I just wanted to know if it was true. He met George in a restaurant.
