I met Mickey Mouse twice... once in Anaheim and once in WDW. He waved a lot but he didn't say a single thing... laryngitis, I guess.
He's a lot bigger in person than he appears on the television.

I met Katie Couric during a tour of the White House.
I met Ronald McNair, just before his fatal flight aboard Space Shuttle Challenger.
I've met Congress member John Lewis at a book signing and Senator Barbara Mikulski. Sen Mikulski gave my high school commencement address. I've seen her since then as well.
I've met Gary Clark, former Washington Redskins Wide Receiver.
I met Debbie Allen of FAME at the Kennedy Center in DC.
I feel like there is someone else, but this is all I can currently recall.

Challenger was the first and last launch I've ever seen live. in Jan 1986, I was in a public school in the town where Christa McAuliffe had grown up, and we were all over the whole "Teacher in Space" program. I since grew up to be an engineer.

Oh, I did meet and talk to Donald Rumbelow, the "internationally recognized leading authority on Jack the Ripper", when we did a walking tour in London. He made the tour interesting.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've seen any of them live since. I don't even watch them land either. I did get to see the shuttle fly it's final flight over the DC area before heading to NYC. That was way cool.

I happened to be home, so I tuned in to see Columbia's failed re-entry. I'm pretty sure that's the only live landing attempt I've ever seen. so much promise, so much tragedy.....and in both cases, totally preventable if everyone just did their jobs. if the space program ever returns to what it was, I still don't think I'll ever be able to watch a live launch or landing again.

I forgot, besides Arnold Palmer, there was Ron Kittle when he moved in the neighborhood, playing for the White Sox and winning rookie of the year honors, and Greg Popovich, coach of the San Antonio Spurs, decades before he coached basketball. He is and always was a laid back very nice person. Still is.
I could include my Congressman, who we met while visiting in D.C. also, but he is not really famous, but was a gracious host to my family. Unlike him though, I keep the photo of him and my family on the desk at home

I peaked my closeness to fame meter as a teenager. At a radio station rock n roll auction at a club, we got to meet Paul Schaefer (Late Night with David Letterman) and Joe Lynn Turner (singer with Rainbow & Yngwie Malmsteem). I also got within 5 feet of Jon Bon Jovi before being shoved to the ground by his bodyguard. I got to touch Jani Lane (lead singer of Warrant) when he popped up on a platform behind us at a concert to sing Heaven. I've gotten the "thru the crowd slap every hand out high 5's" from Sebastian Bach, CeCe Deville, and Vince Neil. I caught a guitar pick from CeCe Deville. I caught a drumstick from Tommy Lee up in the nosebleed section when I...um....flashed my boobs at him during his drum solo. (that whole sentence sounds dirtier than it was) Have also seen/gotten an autograph from Dusty Hill & Frank Beard from ZZ Top because they lived in the same area I grew up in & they always went to a local restaurant. yes, I was a big 80's fangirl.....

Off the top of my head and in alphabetical order, these would remember me:
Bill Buckner
Jack LaLanne
Gordon Moore
Sinbad
ETA - met Ronald Reagan and both Governor Browns when I was a kid. Met Leon Panetta in college as he was our Representative.
Worked in corporate events and many people did events for us: Dick Cheney (thank God he did not die on our stage,) Lenny Kravitz (his contract was a blast to red-line,) Denzel Washington (came with Lenny and very scruffy as he was not working,) Blue Man Group, Bruce Jenner (always wanted to reply "And this is Cathy Rigby,") cant remember the rest but most were just kind of weird. Oh, Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, Andy Grove and Craig Barrett, sat next to the guy who founded Web MD on long flight and taught Zsa Zsa Gabor how to use a medical device on the phone.
Mmm, Lenny Kravitz. My longest celebrity crush, I think. I probably would've ripped his clothes off. . Don't tell me anything to ruin my fantasy, ok?!
Constanzz - Nope - nothing bad about Lenny Kravitz - in fact I kind of like him after.
Biggest disappointment was Denzel Washington - evidently he hopped on Lenny's plane just for fun and was really scruffy - as in stinky. We were all disappointed - worked with mostly women there.

I once also brushed shoulders with Marion Ross (aka "Mrs C" or Richie Cunningham's [Ron Howard's] mom from "Happy Days").
We were in California doing a Disney trip and took a side-trip to LA and were cruising the expensive boutiques/shops on Rodeo Drive.
She happened to be in one shop we were in at the time (can't remember which one now). She was shopping/getting fitted for her Emmy gown.
She as really sweet & polite - just like "Mrs C" was. I managed to snag an autograph from her.

That was the tour where Jani Lane turned up right behind us on a little platform in the crowd. that was a great show. We had so much fun & it was an outdoor concert.

I've met several musicians. Mostly stopped because I hated waiting in line to say hi to someone that would forget me two seconds later. The two more popular ones that come to mind are:
Tyler Glenn - Lead singer of Neon Trees. He's an absolute doll, we were waiting by the bathroom after the show, and you have to walk by it to get to the backstage area at this tiny club and he stopped and chatted with us for quite a while . And when the rest of his bandmates didn't come back out like he said, he took the drumstick I caught onto the bus to get the drummer's signature for me (making everyone behind me in line that formed wait, whoops!).
Robert Schwartzman/Carmine - Lead singer of Rooney, also brother of Jason Schwartzman. Most well known for being the male lead in Princess Diaries, though I think he was in a few others before he went into the band full time.

I went to high school with Gillian Anderson of X Files fame, met Bill Lambier from the Detroit Pistons, and did some consulting work for Roger Ebert.
I also met the man who invented the riding lawn mower. I used to work with his granddaughter.

The most famous person I've ever met would probably be George W. Bush. I had lunch with him and his wife Laura when I was in college and he was running for Gov. of Texas. All politics aside, they were so friendly, very down to earth and george w. was quite funny.
I met a lot of bands in the late 90s/early 2000s... Matchbox Twenty, Maroon 5 (Oh Adam Levine! <3) , the Goo Goo dolls, Lifehouse, Third Eye Blind, Everclear, Sugar Ray and quite a few others.
I met Richie Sambora and Denise Richards while I was vacationing in Positano, Italy. I go to lots of book signings/writers events so I've met quite a few authors.
I know I'm totally missing some people...

I dated Leonard Cohen's cousin...does that count? I used to hang out with Alexandr Solzhenitsin at my church and talk about gardening. He loved gardening. Aside from that I met Chris Hadfield, the singing astronaut, William Shatner, and was bitten by Joyce DeWitt's dog.

Depends on your definition of famous... but here are some
Dave Finley (local weather man and radio personality): I've been friends with his son for over 20 years. I have slept in his house. He does not know, nor has he ever known, my name, despite us being "introduced" over a dozen times. It's always funny to see his face when his wife (who does know who I am) walks up and greets me
Jim Gibbons (fmr Governor of NV): I have been friends with his nephew for over 20 years. I attended the Governor's brother's wedding (my friend's dad) and the Governor's son's wedding. At his son's wedding, he got my friend's (his nephew's) name wrong.
Leslie Sferazza-Durant (former wife of Mayor Pete Sferazza, an affair with her was the supposed reason Governor Gibbon's 2nd marriage ended): I knew her because I worked for Dr. Durant during the time they were married/eloped. She was actually a very sweet person to those of us who worked for Dr. Durant. I was very sad (for him) to see her name in conjunction with the Gibbons affair because Dr Durant was my favorite of the doctors I worked for. (He even wrote me a letter of recommendation for grad school.)
Steve Beeman & Ellen Guon (programmer & writer of Wing Commander 2): If you are a video gamer of a certain age, you know their work. Their names aren't famous, but Wing Commander 2 was a seminal game. Ellen has also co-authored a number of books with Mercedes Lackey. They are our close friends.
Phil Foglio (creator of Girl Genius): He's nice and goofy.
Mark Waid (comic book author): He signed my copy of Ruse #1. He was thrilled to see it, said it was one of his favorite projects to work on.
William Gibson (sci-fi/cyber-punk author): C and I only had one copy of his book for him to sign. He joked that we needed two, in case we ever broke up, so that we could both have one.
John De'Lancie (Q from Star Trek): At a Trek convention. Got an autograph and shook his hand. I'd been in the elevator with him earlier, but could only think of two things to say - Oh my god, you're John De'Lancie or I never through Jon Luc a parade. I decided the first was stupid because he knew who he was and against the second because I was the only Trekkie in the elevator. Instead, I just tried not to stare until I got out on the convention floor and he continued up.
George Takei (if you don't know who he is, that's your issue): Also at a Trek convention in the 1990s. Shook hand, got an autograph. He was incredibly gracious during his talk, including defusing fan vitriol for Shatner, even though he and Shatner had a reportedly bad relationship.
I also have a standing invitation to invite myself to the poker game at James Ernst's house (owner/creator Cheap Ass Games), but have yet to find a good opportunity to take advantage.

I've had some famous teachers: Frank McCourt (HS) and John Irving (college). I've met Frank McCourt as well - he was a former teacher at my high school and came to visit my English class. This was back in the 90's. I seem to run into actors and models a lot. They are all over Soho. The last celebrity I met was Justin Tuck of the NY Giants. Nicest was Master P.

Haven't even been close to meeting any of the beautiful people. There are several I would like to meet but I wonder what kind of just people they really are. The choir I sang with performed in Carnegie Hall Christmas season 1996 and Skitch Henderson was the orchestra conductor. He was pleased with our performance and shook everyone's hand as we left the stage. That is the closest.

I used to take dance classes with Ben Walker. He was Lincoln in Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. I lived about half an hour from his town and he dated my close friend who also took dance classes with us. We went to junior prom as a group (Ben and my friend, and me and her younger brother). I knew him for a few years before he left his small town his senior year of high school to go to a performing arts school in Michigan. He ended up at Juliard for college, and for someone in his early 30s he is doing well breaking into the Hollywood movie scene. He is incredibly talented as a actor, singer, musician etc. He is really smart too and comes from a great family, and ended up marrying Meryl Streep's daughter.

Grew up in NYC so caught a glimpse of famous people all the time. Kurt Vonnegut and Katherine Hepburn lived around the corner from my Mom. When I was in high school(aboutg 15 at the time), I was racing up Central Park West as I was late to school. Marlo Thomas was getting out of a cab and I knocked into her and she dropped a bunch of stuff. I stopped, helped her pick up her stuff.....apologized profusely....she said, "don't worry about it kid...get to school"...and with that I was off and running. Also used to see a lot of the CBS TV people at the deli around the corner from school....David Hartmann(he was really tall).. and other morning TV personalities. Used to see Robert Redford coming and going from what was the Gulf and Western building. Two of my friends used to party with Sly and the Family Stone(they had place around the corner). Not a lot of common sense there. Went to school with a few kids of celebrities....overall they were just normal teenagers who typically had to borrow money for lunch.
