Why would you think it would hurt the gay community? As I said in the OP, will ant-gay people focus on the born gay or not idea. The majority of Americans simply don't care anymore because they are smart enough to know people can be bisexual too. Anyone who wants to go forward with the "choice" theory is not going to get very far.

Here's a question...were you just as offended & put off by 50 Shades of Gray & how popular it became? it's allllll about a couple's sex life & their personal kink. It's being made into a movie now too. or is it just the gay lifestyle you don't want to see or hear about? Excellent point. Cause I didn't mind reading that a bit. Point taken.

"As of right now, people shove their sexuality into other people's faces. " ABC is bringing back Desperate Housewives this coming fall, with all the sex, scandals and intrigue of the old series. ABC has released an advanced photo of the new Desperate Housewives cast during filming.
This is an image from Desperate Housewives ?
No - it's an image from the TLC show "Sister-Wives" about the offshoot LDS cult.

""I" don't want to see/hear/know about other people's sexuality and I wish I didn't have to. But people now-days seem to think that it's their duty to announce their sexuality to the world." Lena, I wonder if you really mean this. Because if you do, that would mean you wouldn't want to know if your children, friends or relatives had boyfriends or girlfriends. You wouldn't want to know about any hetereosexual marriages or even births. Heterosexuality announcements are so taken for granted by some I think they don't even notice them. If what you really mean is much of it is TMI for you, I think I would see that as more likely and more accurate. Personally I'm not all that bothered by how things are now because I can always change the channel, stop reading or listening if its too much for me. Believe it or not, no, I am not really interested in relationships of strangers. And anyone I see on TV is a stranger to me. And it doesn't really matter whether it's heterosexual or homosexual or anything in between. I am not interested in seeing what I consider private, to be made so public. But, yes, I know I am very much in a minority. I know that predominant view is that I should just "turn the channel". That people should be able to say whatever they want, to express themselves which ever way they want to, and certainly share whatever they want. Like I said, I just don't get it. I don't get the need to talk about certain things so publicly. But...it's a free country, so whatever.

I think, from what I can read, that she only talked about it because she was asked. Somebody drug up an article from 30 years ago and she was asked about it. I can't see from the article that she went on TV to just discuss it. She was asked about it. I suppose she could have said, "It's none of your business." However, I think she was trying to be open and honest when asked a question. It doesn't appear to be anything she volunteered or anything she was dying to talk about. While I agree that I don't see any need to discuss your (the general "your") sex life, I do admire her honesty in answering the question that was posed.

Oh, I wasn't "blaming" her directly, I was saying, that in general, it seems that everyone's sexuality is on a complete and open display. I don't get it. I don't see the need for it. But, that's just me

From what I've seen, that's what usually causes this sort of "coming clean" stuff, GEL. It's not that the individual brings it up. It's the media asking questions and delving into the personal business of others that results in this kind of "sharing". If the person doesn't answer, the lack of an answer is blown out of proportion. If the person answers honestly, that's blown out of proportion. If the person tries to cover something up, the media goes into overdrive to prove it's a cover-up. It's a no-win situation as far as I can see.

I do remember a class in anthropology where it was the norm in some places for women to have multiple husbands, and it was a cultural thing based on the needs of the society- not something encased in a religious shell. I maintain the 'Mormons' that still practice this bullshit are selfish, disgusting men for the most part that want their cake and have it served to them as well.

Not that I know of. I'd hate it anyway. I don't want to be subservient to anyone and I would detest some man being subservient to me. Except when I'm telling him what to do, of course.
I find the practice of having multiple wives more than a bit distasteful ONLY because I just feel it's an opportunistic kind of practice. I don't know how it came about - maybe it was instituted to gain a larger population. But I pose a question. If we accept all marriages - those between a man and a woman; those between a man and a man; and those between a woman and a woman...can we condemn their beliefs just because we don't like them? I don't think we can. If you (the general "you") are going to strongly support unions of love; regardless of the participants, why would this one be any different? Nobody in those marriages seem to object. Why, if we are supposed to be accepting of everyone's right to love and marry who they wish, would we not extend the same acceptance to Mormons (who I don't believe practice polegamy anymore).
I absolutely would not want to be a part of such a society. My feelings tell me it would be denigrating, demeaning and not the kind of life I would want to lead. But that doesn't mean it's a life they don't want to lead. Do we have a right to be disgusted with them and, at the same time, celebrate other unions that aren't one man - one woman?

Come on- having multiple husbands would not make your life easier? It isn't opportunistic- at least as far as history goes. It probably is now.. My solution is simple- the government does not recognize marriage at all. If you think it is worth your time to point fingers at, legislate against, vote against then go ahead. You have the right to be disgusted at anything you wish.

I didn't read nor do I intend to read 50 shades of grey. Someone else's sex life is of no interest to me and having it shoved in my face is a bore. It smacks of insecurity.

...Do we have a right to be disgusted with them and, at the same time, celebrate other unions that aren't one man - one woman? I support the right of consenting adults to marry whomever(s) they wish. Where I see a problem is in the case of dissolution of multiple marriage relationships. I believe that the government has a compelling interest in requiring that groups have prenuptial agreements which spell out how they will deal with individual or total desire to end the relationship.
