Yep. A thread for the rest of us for whom the dough continues to roll in. Juicy tenderloin steaks marinating in our $300.00 as-seen-on-TV Steak-o-Matic marinating machines. Hours filled with the satisfaction of a job well done while the furloughers (a.k.a. "lowies") run ragged with nervous home budget revamps, wondering how long the standoff will last. A week? A month? A year? Impossible to say. Do we even want the lowies hanging out with us? All that anxiety and nervous energy and... not getting paidness? Maybe I'll buy a $10,000.00 pet African turtle this week and name him "Congress". Congress the turtle. And I'll make a hat for him out of my pay stubs and walk him all around Washington DC on a diamond-studded leash. The sight of him in his cute little hat will undoubtedly bring laughter and merriment to all, most especially the bitter lowies. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/charmed.png) Oop. And the doorbell just rang for my jacuzzi hot tub delivery, hence I need to go cheque on that... I mean "check" on that ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/wink.png) ... right now. Gonna get me a hot tub fulla money. Ooh, yeah. Gonna get... ... .

A furlough sounds pretty nice right about now. My slave driving a-hole of a boss hasn't given me a day off in forever, and if I have to work one more 10 hour shift with no lunch or other breaks I'm going to sue!

Good, you didn't look out the window first before opening the door. That'll give the men in the white coats a better chance to do their job. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png)

I'm currently self-employed, semi-retired. I have several hobbies to keep me busy... collecting trolls, for example.

I've put our asshat politicians on ignore and made plans. We have an exchange student and it's Indian summer in New England. Taking DD and her BFF, along with their two Swiss boys to Cape Cod tomorrow for a day of lighthouses, lunches, beaches and unadulterated fun. School and work be damned. I'm confident that staying home and being responsible would just annoy me. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/angry.png) Our politician ON BOTH SIDES will still be dumbasses when we get back.

No worries here. Not furloughed, although DH is on Medicare and SS - we have the emergency fund to cover stuff in case of late payments from the gubmint.
Oh, and Virgil: not in a million years would you own a hot tub. Getting in it would require you to disrobe somewhat. Your severe nerdiness would prevent that.
Now take your pet turtle and do something realistic with it - like make soup out of it.

furlough ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/huh.gif) ? Well, if the fur on folks is getting a little low on top...they might try that Bosley method.. If the concern is that it's gonna be a long cold winter and your fur is low....Well..one might purchase a couple huskies and hunker down with them. After all a husky never has a problem with their fur being low..they come with a furhigh!!!! ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/whistle.gif) Now, seeing we are approaching Halloween..might one caste a spell putting a pox on posturing politicians. May the halls of government overflow with packs of lycans, crowds of carnivorous critters, groups of ghouls, barnfulls of rabid bats, while the exits are manned by all manner of Freddy Krugers, Michael Meyers and Jasons

What's the appeal of it for you? I listen and broadcast. In the last 2 years I've talked to all 50 states and many provinces in Canada. Also 94 countries. Sometimes we just exchange signal quality and equipment type. Sometimes we talk for 30 minutes. The appeal is I get to try out my designs of equipment and antennas. Propagation is constantly changing and it's fun to see what area you can talk to using different frequencies at a specific time. I've also met people with similar backgrounds. Electrical Engineers, retired, former military. I've been licensed since 1962 when I was 15. Thanks for asking. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png)

Too late. I beat you to this particular corny pun earlier in the day. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/grin.png) Interesting. I always thought the range of those radios was comparable to a shortwave radio. Maybe a hundred-or-so miles. Shows what I know about Ham radio. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png) It's not misfortune if they roll with the punches with a few laughs along the way. That's what this thread is for. You of all people should understand that. And serve it to the lowies lining up in the soup kitchens! I like the way you think. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/laugh.png)

It's interesting how people remember someones call letters. Of course I remember all the ones from my high school club, but my mother remembers mine from when I was a teen living at home. BTW why "baba" for the letter B? That's not common, but is grandmother in Russian and is my wife's title for our grandsons. Her grandparents all came from Russia/Ukraine area. I looked up your fathers call in a ham site and no one has it now.

I'm not sure why baba. Dad was born in England. What's funny is my name is a B! Maybe it was a spin on Ali Baba? I also remember going to the ham operator dinner.

I'm not understanding why a teacher can tell you no to the trip..... if the exchange is tied to the school, any teacher w/rights to approve/deny anything related to the exchange program can approve or deny something like this. as far as I know, it's not a state holiday tomorrow (I work in the private sector) and that's easily a valid reason for denying a day trip w/o a documented educational purpose. it sucks, for sure, but it's probably the reason why. :\

On one page, in one thread, in the space of 6 hours, you folks managed to cover more topics (furlough, hobbies, day jobs, ham radio, Cape Cod, exchange students, omnipotent teachers, French Silk chocolate pie, gloating over others' misfortune, etc.) than a pre-teen boy with severe ADD. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png)

It's because we're 13 year old boys stuck in "more than 13 year old" female bodies! ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/grin.png) (plus the guys, of course ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/tongue2.png) )

I saw a federal employee this morning at Dunkin Donuts. As I walked by him I took out my wad of Benjamins and smacked him upside the head, told him to get a real job and stop being a teat sucking leech.
He thanked me for the career advice.
