    Malley emerged from the darkness with his rifle raised “yelling commands,” according to the probable cause statement.

     The deputy, illuminated by Malley’s flashlight at this point, identified himself as law enforcement, pointing out the “word sheriff across his chest,” and ordered Malley to drop his weapon.

     “You aren’t taking my weapons,” replied Malley, who was armed with a semi-automatic rifle, a .45 caliber handgun and a knife, according to court records

     Malley claimed “he had the right to point his rifle at the individual because he had reasonable suspicion to believe a crime was occurring,” according to the probable cause statement. He identified himself as a “militia Minuteman.”

     “I have to commend my deputy for not killing this person, which easily could have happened,” Arpaio said. “He’s lucky he didn’t see 30 rounds fired into him.”


So these guys roam the border playing cop and think they have the 'right' to give commands and point their guns at 'suspects'.

Yes, we need to secure that border better; however, that's not just a matter of saying "Let's do it!" There's more involved.  It's going to cost a bundle to get any kind of security on that border, and nothing is going to be completely effective.  Whatever is done is going to cost money.  Manpower, fences - whatever is done isn't going to come free.  Soooo...

I came up with a landmine-based proposal with an all-inclusive price tag of about $35M. Zero maintenance costs. A price like that is a gift.

Citizens are putting their own lives in jeopardy.  It will end badly for some of them- either the police are going to kill one of them or some drug cartel will make an example with a chainsaw.  That's their choice to make.

The military is not to be used for domestic law enforcement, per the Posse Comitatus Act, without congressional approval.  Domestic matters such as this are delegated to the National Guard.  There are exceptions to the Posse Comitatus Act; however, armed forces personnel actively participating in guarding that border doesn't fall within them.
