My father-in-law went to high school in NYC with Regis Philbin. Whenever the subject would come up of celebrities we had met he'd say, "Have I ever told you that I went to high school with Regis Philbin?" After he had asked me that a couple hundred times, I decided to send a letter to Regis Philbin explaining that my FIL had gone to school with him and ask for a signed picture. I got one back in the mail very quickly, wrapped it and gave it to my FIL for Christmas.
A few years later, I was an administrator of a local community forum. To keep people coming back on a daily basis, I would post questions during my lunch with four possible answers similar to "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire". I posted those under the username "Regis". Probably did it every day of the year for about three years. Except when I use my real name (which coincidentally is Kelly Ripa), I post on various forums under the name Regis. Most of my close friends now call me Regis. My mother and father (at times) actually call me Regis as well.
As for the avatar...when I'm drinking beer, it's pretty much either Corona or Blue Moon. And if it was only up to me, every vacation would be to the beach.

I used to have a blog that was named "Sk.......". When I joined this board I figured I'd use my blog name for my username, but then realized after awhile I'd prefer to be anonymous so I changed my username to Formerly SK. Yeah, I'm not very creative. My avatar is from a 5K mud run obstacle course DH and I did in June. It was AWESOME.

So do you think some posters' avatars say something about them? For example, some of our members use their family status as their username, such as motherto2, busymom, and ohmomto2boys. Do you think this means they wrap their identity up in being a mother? Or what about professions, does MidJD wrap up her identity in her job? Hmmmm.....I like beer. So yes!! Where did the "EE Ambassador" come from?

I'm not bummed about my life, but I don't like aging. Oh, and I chose Angelina Jolie for my avatar because I really, really like her. I know she's got a lot of haters, but I admire how hard she tries to be a good person, despite all of her demons. That's Angelina Jolie?? I thought you were a hot asian chick all this time. How disappointing. Or maybe Malaysian. Pacific Islander? Whatever, some sort of exotic person.

Flutterby is what my kids used to call a butterfly when they were little. I thought it was cute. They also used to call their backpacks pack-acks but that name would've just been weird.

I always admired Yoda. He's underestimated, feisty and very wise. I'd like to be like him (just not green and 3' tall)

I decided my name was too revealing when I started posting outside of Smart Spending (shortly after some incidents...), so I chopped it up some. My current avatar is a picture I took of a chip in my car windshield for another board. We were supposed to take pictures of different things every day during May, and this day was "glass". I love getting (back?) into photography and try to come up with a new angle or something a little different. I think the picture pretty, even though the glass was cracked and broken. (I still need to replace that windshield--the chip has spread, as well as some other chips, so now I have nice long cracks )

I was TeensTweensandaTot when I first signed up on the old MSN boards, for my kids. Eventually, I no longer had tweens (they were now teens), and the original teens are now in their twenties , and the tot is 8, so I thought long and hard about a name change. I wanted to keep at least part of the name, for continuity's sake, and realized that teens were/would be a long term trend with me, both my kids and the teens I work with. I also realized that "persuading" teens might just be my job description. I also enjoy Jane Austen, so "Persuasion" is a nod to her, as is my avatar. It was used on a modern novel w/ Jane Austen as a character, solving mysteries. The original artwork is of Madame Recamier. She looks very much like I did at a similar age, except that my eyes are blue, not brown. Of course, now my hair is much shorter, but the coloring and build are the same.

Oh, and the little guy in my signature is totally me (I swear I've only set on fire while on the job, though I've seen plenty of sparks). Cheesy posted it for me a long time ago, and I've kept him in my signature since.

'Virgil' from Dante's "Inferno". 'Syonid', pronounced 'shy-nide', as a transliteration of the Vedic Sanskrit word for 'poison'. (Interestingly enough, it has nothing to do with 'cyanide' despite the similar phonemes and meanings.) I eventually discovered that when anyone included the latter term in a reference to me, they spelled it 'Synoid' (presumably 'sigh-noid'). Able to withstand the butchery for only so long, I decided to cycle through recognizable S- words on six-month intervals thereafter: "Sovereign", "Serenity", "Songbird", to the current "Sentinel". I use two unique avatars for each name, switching (on average) every three months. My June-August avatar was originally the 'songbird' from the BioShock franchise, but after being told that it was "freaking geeky" by a certain gemstone, I switched to a silhouette of a falcon on an orange background. This in turn was criticized by various posters for being too similar to @jma23's avatar, which is also black-on-orange. Moreover, the falcon was repeatedly mistaken as a raven. I changed avatars a second time to a 'shaky cam' version of my present avatar. When a third round of complaints that my avatar was "suffering seizures" invaded various threads, I removed the shaky-cam effect for v3.0. The change from "Songbird" to "Sentinel" was prompted by the falcon's fictional name, 'Sentinel', as established in a satire where I explained the creature's tendency to "seize" was due to a caffeine addiction. As should be evident by this point, my display names and avatars are chosen in a logical and highly systematic way.

People on message boards try my patience. I cannot express just how much, while staying withing the Code of Conduct.
And I don't bother with that avatar image nonsense. I don't put bumper stickers on my cars, and there are no beaniebabies or stuffed toys in my rear window. And I avoid "brand name" clothing when the main feature is the brand name. I guess I just don't care so much about creating an image behind which I can be camouflaged.

I was 'tigerpause' also on MSN. I couldn't come up with anything so I went with 'tiger' because it's my Chinese zodiac. I thought 'paws' looked kind of typical so I went with 'pause' because 'I'm a tiger running in the daily jungle who pauses occasionally to post on message boards'. My present avatar was originally black and white until Sugilite found me a colored one . I'm a little animated somewhat in RL and I like to laugh so that's why I chose that avatar.

When first joining YM to post-- I lurked for a long while--I felt it necessary to have a financially tainted name. Since my house was underwater, and I was asking for help mostly due to that development, I went with that moniker. I hope to come up for air eventually.
Eta: my avatar is a pretty close resemblance

Beer's name is a long an interesting story.
She originally asked EErs for suggestions, and one of the alpha EEers (I can't recall who) convinced her that 'Beeeyotch' was the Scandinavian word for 'diplomat'. She liked the idea and adopted the name, regrettably spending her first months on MSN responding to new members' queries about why she called herself 'Beeeyotch' with answers like "Beeeyotches are from Scandinavia."
At some point (somewhere around the six month mark) she realized she'd been had. Rather than confront the EEers dramatically, she elected to discreetly change her name one letter at a time until it had reached something more suitable. Hence for periods of two weeks each she was (respectively) "Beeryotch", "Beeryonch", "Beerwonch", and finally "Beerwench".
This moniker persisted for 8 additional months until she confronted EEers and expressed her dismay at how they'd pranked her. She demanded to know how to actually say 'diplomat' in Scandinavian. Nobody knew, and everybody was either too lazy or too incompetent to use Google, hence one EEer suggested she simply call herself 'ambassador'.
Not one to be pranked twice, Beer immediately verified that 'ambassador' was indeed a synonym for 'diplomat'. She typed it into her profile as 'ambasador', however, accidentally omitting the second 's', and noticed that it was always red and underlined when she referred to it in posts. Concerned about a misspelling, she asked the EEers why the word wasn't accepted by spellcheck. One of the alpha EEers (I believe it may have been Ms. T) jokingly told her that the correct spelling was 'dumbassador', but that 'dumbassador' would also appear red and underlined because spellcheck didn't recognize any words longer than ten letters.
Beer obligingly adopted the modification, and for a period of 16 months she went by the name "beerwench EE Dumbassador", responding to baffled new members' queries about her name with answers like "If you're not sure what to do, just give your dumbassador a poke and help is on the way.", and "I was on the old boards too. But there was some confusion. You might have known me as 'Beeryonch'."
This cycle repeated itself only once, leading to a six-month period where Beer went by the name "beerwench EE Shortbussador", followed by a 2.5 month period of "beerwench PEE Ambassador" (when an alpha EEer convinced Beer that 'Everything Else' had been renamed 'Practically Everything Else'), ultimately arriving at the current "beerwench EE Ambassador" in the summer of 2011.

My name came from a name I used when I used to play Delta Force at work. I was known as Swamprat then. Sroo is a derivative of that name. The avatar I stumbled upon on a vintage image site..I think I identified with maniacal crazed look on her face. Hey, we have the same nickname. I was swamp rat in college. Swamp is a pun on my real name, and I was on the swim team and looked like a drowned rag since I was in the pool all the time. Loopy picked my avatar.

Tell her the My Little Pony in your computer says she has to keep her room really clean and take really good care of her toys so that other My Little Ponies will want to come live with her. Oh, and we hang with Santa, so we'll know if she doesn't.
