I've heard of "frito pie" before, but I thought it was put together like an actual pie. I still need to take the quiz myself. stoopid work filters, I can't even load the page.

I googled it, and the official recipe is a bag of fritos, 2 cans of chili, and a bunch of cheese. I love all three of those things - but that doesn't sound good. I like my fritos crunchy. Yeah- chili and cheese. Though I've never had it with such a large quantity of chili that they are swimming it it... so the fritos stay crunchy. but again- not something I really enjoy as an adult. I also don't eat canned chili

74 if Hoppin' John means black eyed peas. I've had fresh blueberries but they were from Publix or at a restaurant so it that counts my score is 75. I'm not sure what some of that stuff shown was to even know if I had it or not. Hoppin John is blackeyed peas with bacon and onions. Much better than plain black eyed peays, but I guess you can count that That's the only way to eat them! I just didn't realize it had a name. Reading everybody's posts my score is much higher. More like 77 or 80. I thought the honey was some special kind so I didn't pick it - stuff like that. I was a military brat and have been all over the world and mom was good at introducing us to different foods to try. I may have had many things that I just didn't know the name of it. My ex and I used to go to a lot of food functions where all the Chefs would set up and make their specialty and we'd go around trying them all. That was fun. I've also had Escargot, Steak Tartar, Rabbit, frogs legs, gator tail... stuff like that. Not that I want them again but I've had it.

You want none of that again? I love escargot. I love rabbit. I've had great and meh steak tartar. Frogs legs were okay - I wouldn't go out of my way to eat them or avoid them. I've never had gator tail.

I also didn't pick the honey, etc. If it stated a specific brand, I assumed it was that brand otherwise, why not just say honey? So, maybe i'm at 33 or something? I don't think its a great definition of 'adventurous' eater.... some of those things looked downright nasty I mean, if poo and dirt were on the list, would you be unadventurous if you chose not to eat them?

I've never had gator tail. I would pick restaurants that served Escargot I loved it so much. Now the idea of it makes me and bunnies and frogs and gators pretty much taste like chicken so I just eat chicken.

I don't think rabbit tastes like chicken. The meat is much darker and way more flavorful.
I ate turtle once. It tasted more like beef than chicken.

I got a pretty high score but I blame that on my trips to WV and New Orleans, plus the friend that kept grits in his cabinet like I keep mashed potatoes.
I don't think this shows how adventurous you are. We could start our own list:
escargot, yak, frog, kimchi, tagine, injera, empanada, steak tartar, miso paste, marmite, spotted dick, sumac . . .

I skimmed the list and I think I'd have a pretty low score. I eat just about any foods except for organ meats (brains, liver, etc.) There's a lot on that list, though, that's fatty, fried, or both. I just don't do that stuff anymore. I can live without it and it's not good for my health or my waistline.

I've had spit-grilled guinea pig. Still had it's head and everything, though I put up a standing menu thing on the table so I didn't have to stare it in the eyes as I chowed down.

I got a 29. I am also a picky eater, don't like seafood and have not traveled to the South.

I got a 66. I just got a food allergy to shellfish in the last 5 years. Put a damper on my trying new seafood recipes. I've ate grits and Shrimp but not together.

I've never had gator tail.
You're not missing much. It's pretty bland.
Buffalor burgers are awesome if cooked right. Buffalo meat is much much leaner than cow meat so you can easily turn it into shoe leather/carcoal.
I used to get it at the Farmer's Market but that vendor hasn't been around the past couple years. Ground bison makes killer enchiladas.

I've also had Escargot, Steak Tartar, Rabbit, frogs legs, gator tail... stuff like that. Not that I want them again but I've had it. I agree with Thyme that some of that stuff is awesome and worth eating again. Escargot (especially in garlic, white wine and butter sauce), steak tartare (especially Harris' version) and rabbit are yummy and I choose them if they're offered on the menu. Frogs legs taste OK, but I think they have a little of the skeev factor since they usually come on the bone and it's very obvious what they are which in this case bugs me a little, so don't seek them out. Gator tail is really chewy and more of a curiousity, IMHO.

The honey in the list IS special and not just a generic 'brand name' type honey... it's a specific kind of Bee Spit in a Bottle - the bees that make "sourwood honey" visited the Sourwood tree (Oxydendrum Arboreum) is also called the Lily of the Valley tree or the Appalachian Lily tree... so you probably only can get Sourwood honey from an apiary in an area where those trees grow. So, while I've had plenty of different varieties of Midwestern Bee Spit in a Bottle - I've never sourwood kind.

I've tried 59.
there were plenty that I didn't care for, as well as those that I couldn't have now if I wanted to (seafood allergies). I'm sure I'd have tried more if the allergy hadn't come up.
some of those foods are pretty out there for "must-eat American foods" I think....

I wouldn't mind trying any of those that were on the list that I haven't tried. I've never had the opportunity, but I'd love to try gator, frog legs, buffalo, venison, & rabbit.

68 - a few I've never heard of or seen. Geoduck I've never heard of and I love seafood.

My grandfather was a commercial fisherman and I never had geoduck until I moved to Portland. I've had abalone, dried fish, used octopus for bait, cleaned buckets of squid myself, and one time Grandpa brought home a stingray and put it in the bathtub for us to look at. Geoduck doesn't even make sense as a name.

The list was interesting, but seemed weighted to the South and seemed to skip what few interesting things IMO the Midwest does have. Venison is pretty common in parts of the Midwest along with fish boils and various kinds of fish. I think the one kind of trout they had on this list was one I wasn't sure I have had.
I also think Chicago-style deep dish pizza should have been on the list over NY style pizza if you were only going to have one type of pizza listed.

I was thinking it was pretty southern foods heavy too. I would have thought the venison might be because very few people country wise love it even if they do eat it but buffolo is on the list and I can't remember one person who had it who thought it was so much better than regular beef. I was surprised not to see shoofly pie or one of the amish dishes like that. Chicago deep dish is nice but my pick for that list would have been that chilli they stick over spagehetti dish in indianopolis or Kansas City BBQ.

I've had or tried 49 of foods. I refuse to eat many kinds of fish and shellfish, or I would have had a higher score. Just never liked them too much. Chili dogs are obviously the best, followed by pumpkin pie.

The place I went for dinner last night had fried cheese curds on the menu. I thought about it but got calamari instead.

I'd sooner try geoduck than chicken fried steak or shrimp and hushpuppies. *[Stalks off with nose in the air.]*
