Why do we have to justify why we "care"?

Why do we need to care?
I have seen way too many peeps lives wrecked when things came down to ONE gosh dern sentence.
How many worms in the bag crawl when someone in the work place asks, "Do you think there are things around here that need to change?"
What do you think about? The person that comes in 20 minutes late every day along with a laundry list of annoyances so the answer is, Yes.
In your naivitude could you have considered that a hostile take over was one step away? The change just might be you cleaning out your desk.
Yes, we need to care so we can learn from other's mistakes and know when the cross hairs are on us.

...Yes, we need to care so we can learn from other's mistakes and know when the cross hairs are on us. The cross hairs are on you if you use racist, sexist, or sexual language in public situations. Learned that one long ago. Don't need to delve into this latest incident to learn it again.

Paula has destroyed an empire she built up for years with her big mouth. She could not perjure herself on the witness stand. All this came down to one sentence: Yes, of course. She's 66 years old. She was born and bred in the deep south, and she was under oath answering the "have you ever?" question. Was she supposed to lie under oath? This is the typical far left selective outrage. On the other hand you have million dollar Obama donor Bill Maher who has called Sarah Palin a ****, and called her son a retard. Will he be fired? Nope.

Fan disapproval of Deen may be continued blow back for her not stepping forward years ago and announcing she had diabetes while she continued to push foods high in fats. I personally don't believe Deen needed to tell her fans she had diabetes but she could have offered healthier food recipes for those who do have diabetes. High fat foods have no relationship to diabetes. Diabetes is preceded by some form of metabolic syndrome- generally characterized by obesity and insulin resistance. These are most commonly caused by an overabundance of carbohydrates- foods high on the glycemic index. In short- fattier milk, slimmer kids.

Unlike the saturated fat found in animals, the saturated fat found in unrefined coconut (plant) oil is good for us. I looked for Paula Deen recipes using unrefined coconut (EVCO) and found none. Just butter, butter and more butter. I see EVCO is good for baking, hair and skin.

Ok yes, if you already have diabetes you may need less fat in your diet. It isn't going to cause it though. And really everyone knows her recipes call for butter and more butter. Looking to her for healthier recipes is absurd. That is absolutely not her niche. One of her sons does take her recipes and make them healthier.

I highly doubt she used coconut oil and believe her poor diet had much to do with her diabetes. Lone-In what way do you use EVCO? Do you use it to bake, fry, in salads, etc.?

Lone-In what way do you use EVCO? Do you use it to bake, fry, in salads, etc.? I use it in almost everything I cook. With the coconut fat, I make whipped cream and ice cream (Stevia to sweeten). I fry with it because it doesn't burn. I bake with it. I mix it with a little apple cider vinegar for salad dressing. A little added to the split ends in your hair works wonders. I buy it in big containers at Costco.
ETA. Yes it does have a bit of a coconut taste, but I find it's a pleasant .I like coconut. Maybe I'll try it. Thanks.

Well, TN, have fun with that. The low carbohydrate diet is one of the best ways to prevent and manage type 2 diabetes. www.nutritionandmetabolism.com/content/2/1/16Paula Deen is by no means exempted from promoting a diet that causes type 2 diabetes, but to say it like her, "It's the sugar, sugar". The fact is that it was her high sugar foods, and not the butter and animal fat that likely contributed to her illness. Not only does a low carbohydrate diet prevent the constant insulin spikes that lead to insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome and diabetes- but the consumption of an appropriate amount of animal protein, including animal fat is one of the best ways to prevent the kind of over-eating that leads to obesity and heart disease. www.nytimes.com/2012/07/01/opinion/sunday/what-really-makes-us-fat.html?_r=0This is shocking stuff to a lot of people, but I've done enough research on it now that I have internalized it, and I now "know" it. So, I am not shocked by this anymore. It's fact to me- like the fact that there's no scientifically demonstrable link between human activity and changes in the climate. The difference here is that the science doesn't remain "out there" to be discovered. The facts are in. And because of my ideological predispositions, it's also no surprise to me that the government, the scientific community, big agribusiness, and other interests have fed us a load of low fat, high carbohydrate, processed, artificial, veggie baloney.

The attack on coconut oil was one of the more egregious examples of the misguided and wild-eyed attacks on a food source by people that frankly just do not know what they're talking about. www.thescreamonline.com/essays/essays5-1/vegoil.htmlBy the way- the red meat causes cancer line never had any scientific evidence attached to it. It's simply a scare tactic by radical animal rights activists.

Actually there are studies done on red meat and they are not done by animal rights activists. Without seeing the actual studies I'm not sure their conclusions are valid but yes I read one just recently that said the risk of cancer increases with the number of red meat meals one has per week.
Diet research and philosphies are going to continue to evolve and change. The Atkins diet was developed to create a state of ketosis which is why one can eat more calories on that diet. Its also pretty hard on the kidneys and possibly the liver. The key is to find a diet that works for you. There are lots of people in India and China who eat a more carb based diet and yet remain thin. There are more factors in play I think than just diet and culture.

Paula admitting she used the N-word at one time or another isn't the real issue here. If that's all she stood accused of, then I would definitely give her the benefit of the doubt. What's really going on is she's facing a major discriminatory lawsuit where a former employee claims she forced African American staff to use separate entrances and bathrooms, as well as regularly called them "n-rs" and "monkeys" if she was unhappy with their performance. Her brother also allegedly treated female staff poorly and distributed hardcore porn around the office, which is a clear violation of sexual harrassment laws. www.celebitchy.com/213132/former_employee_says_paula_deen_used_the_n_word_claims_deans_brother_sexually_harassed_her/

I don't care if Paul used the n word in her past. She's a 60 year old woman from the south. I'd be surprised if she didn't.
However, if there is any truth to her making black employees use different restrooms and entrances, that's just whacked.

I've never been a fan. But I can't imagine that she has much left to talk about on her show. Her food is very old-school, and it isn't like she is doing new things, and finding ways to incorporate new techniques or anything. At some point, we all tire of all these people because they have told us everything they are going to tell us. Much of the food they make on the network is standard home-cooking. How many different ways can you cook a chicken? Even if it is 1,000 ways or 2,000 ways or even 3,000 ways - we are pretty much done with you after a couple of years.

Paula Deen will be fine. She'll likely go through the same "rehab" period that Robert Irvine did when he was booted off Food Network for lying on his resume (and shame on the network for not doing due diligence and catching that. Not that he wasn't responsible as well, however). Time will pass and she will be back.
And I think the issue is getting way too much press. Given the time and place Deen was raised, her use of the language, derogatory by any standards, was common when she grew up. I don't applaud her judgement for using it, but most of us have used language and made statements about other peoples' race or ethnicity that were not the wisest of choices. The PC police can be harsh on the most famous, and social media certainly does not help.
I'm not a fan of her cooking or her TV persona, but I do give her props for building an empire as a broke and divorced mother of two sons. She used the skills she had to get it done. As for the diabetes thing, she owes no one a thing as far as disclosure goes in reference to changing what and how she presents on her show. It's food television, with no guarantee to the viewer that it's real life, and no promise that what she does on her show is related to her own way of living. I'd prefer she was not a paid shill for a drug company, but that's her decision.
Supposedly, she has agreed to appear on the Today show this coming Wednesday after cancelling last week.

The news media showed a video of her on a talk show where she brought out one of her closest, favorite friends who is "as black as the board behind them". He did go on stage then gave Paula a hug. -------------
I don't know of any one who is innocent or not guilty in the discrimination area.

I have ZERO doubt that Paula Deen did NO such thing EVER as make her black employees use different restrooms. Things are frequently alleged in lawsuits that sound outrageous, but the fact is that anyone can swear to anything in a complaint- and so long as there's no direct contradictory evidence (as in, it's "he said-she said", they'll never face any real penalties for doing so.

I was thinking perhaps that means a cellphone recording of a recent n* slip will surface soon. I see Paula confirms only one incident of the n-word even though what I read suggests Lisa Jackson believes she heard it in the discussion of Bubba's 2007 wedding with the "plantation style dress" discussed for only black waiters. So is she telling the truth or doing the equivalent of Clinton's I did not have sex with that woman?
