Sunday I cut up some broccoli and salt/pepper/olive oil, and then I took a lemon and sliced it paper thin and laid it across the tops. It came out so yummy, and tasted really good with the salmon, which had a little lemon-honey sauce on it. I might always do that now. Especially in winter when there are a million free lemons in my neighborhood.

I've only had okra once. I didn't get the "slimy" thing, because mine wasn't slimy at all. We got it in a tapas bar, and it had wasabi sauce on it. It was fantastic. I have been terrified to make okra at home because so many people hate it. Maybe I'll try it this summer. Okra has to be fresh , washed and completely dry before you start slicing it. As you slice it, you will get that slimy texture, but keep on cleaning the knife and cutting pad. This is what I follow - recipe on a website: Clean and completely dry each okra pod. Then cut it length wise into 2 (if the okra is quite plump then cut 4 times). Options here: shallow fry these slender okra lengths in oil till crispy; or bake in the oven till same.
And then sprinkle ANY powder known to man on them. You can do Indian spices or mexican or italian or cajun.......improvise and top off with some lime juice. I tried them with cajun spices last time and they were very tasty.

My 3 favorite foods that I have loved since I can remember and that has never changed - eggs, chocolate and black caviar.
My least favorite food? I have no idea - if I don't like something, I never eat it again and don't think about it.....

And most of the days I am too lazy to steam it.

I like way too much food! Favorite ethnic types are the Asian, including Indian; light on meats or no meats at all, heavy on vegetables, great spices. It's pretty easy for me to pass up most junk food except anything with bakery frosting. I like a good dessert but a small quantity of it. not Cheesecake Factory-sized portions.
Dislikes: milk, organ meats (liver, brains, etc.), anything fatty or fried. I can't get excited about sushi so I avoid it just because of the health risks. I love good, fresh, briny raw oysters, though.

saveinla - Sounds good. I will give it a try.
Lena - I do bake it, but I have a gas oven, so the heating element is on the top. It is different than cooking in an electric oven, as everything gets a "broiled" element to it. I love it, because mostly I do cooking, not baking. So when I do veges, I put them on the top rack and let the element cycle on and off. I don't know if it would come out drastically differently if I was roasting it in a regular oven without the top heating element.
You could try roasting it, and if you like the brown, carmelization on the ends, you could broil it for a couple of minutes at the end, after the rabe is soft and ready to eat.

Favorite is beer.
What do you mean that's not a food? Okay, then steak.
Hate pickles. Can't even stand to have the jar open anywhere near me.

DH loves it like there's no tomorrow. I am thinking about cooking it for him for Father's Day, so yeah, could you PM it to me? Thanks.

mmmm, food! There is so much to like, how can you pick a favorite? Some days it's a perfectly grilled steak with a baked potato loaded with butter, some days a healthy piece of grilled salmon with broccoli and a salad, and some days it's something totally low-brow like chili cheese dogs with onions. In terms of "cuisines" I like, Indian and Mexican (americanized tex mex, anyway) come to mind as favorites.
I like a lot of the things other people love to hate as well: brussel sprouts, okra, liver. They are all fine with me although I don't actually think I've tasted liver in many years.
I detest mayo, sour cream and any sauces like hollandaise or tartar. Gross. Also any cheese that is blue, "bleu" or stinks like a hobo.

And why would I destroy the cheesy, salsa-y goodness of my tex-mex? You be crazy! Oh, I thought of some other things I don't care for. I like most all vegetables but I do not care for the texture of eggplant, zucchini or squash. They are tolerable when grilled but only marginally. When someone does something nuts like steam them they are a bland revolting pile of mush.

Hate: Mushrooms (can't get past the slimy texture), organs (liver, tongue), ground hamburger (e.g. spaghetti with meat sauce or tacos) - although I like actual hamburgers fine. I also don't tend to eat things that require much effort to get at the food - chicken wings, crab legs, ribs. I'm lazy. Mid we must somehow be inversely related. I am the opposite - I hate hamburgers though I love tacos, meatballs, meatloaf, etc. Everybody's like "but hamburgers are the same thing" - no they're not!

I could live off of iced tea, plain blueberry PopTarts, peanut butter sandwiches (no jelly), and chocolate ice cream. Bliss.
I have recently discovered kale - yum! I love cabbage (raw, though cooked in haluski is yummy) and brussel sprouts too.
My mom's mashed potatoes. Nobody else's can even come close.

Just to join the Brussel Sprout debate - I had experienced them as nasty bitter little balls of awfulness more times than I cared to remember. When brussel sprouts showed up in my Farm Box (I joined a CSA) I was like "ewwwww!!!!!" and they eventually hit the trash. The next season I had challenged myself to attempt to cook and at least TRY everything that came in the Farm Box. When the Brussel Sprouts arrived I was frightened but did something simple with them - I steamed them in the microwave, added butter and a hit of salt and OMG! The Angels Sang!! They were sweet-ish and tasty and wonderful. Farm Box brussel sprouts are also delicious roasted or shredded raw and in a salad.
I'll only eat brussel sprouts that were grown locally and only when they are in season - this lets me avoid the nasty mutant who knows how long they've been in storage or traveling sprouts from the grocery store.
I don't really have a favorite food... it changes from season to season - right now I've thing for marinated and baked tofu (I love the texture and the different marinades/favors) and Pumpkin Curry soup. The only thing I consistantly dislike is Dark Chocolate and desserts with too much chocolate layers - so double chocolate brownies with choco chips and chocolate sauce is NOT on my list of yummy things to eat. A plain milk chocolate (or fudge) brownie with some powder sugar or frosting on it... YUM!
I also not fond of flavored coffees... like White chocolate Cherry coffee ICK.

Souther sweet tea is a diabetic coma in a bottle.
My friend can only get hers sweet enough by boiling the tea THEN adding the sugar to make a super saturated solution.
My teeth ache just thinking about it.

I know it's bad for you. That's why I drink it once a week at most.... except for when we were in SC. I mean, we were in the south and on vacation! I drink water about 95% of the time.

I absolutely hate spaghetti but will choke it down once a month.
I will eat cereal, bananas, grapes, apples, oranges, kiwi, most greens except iceberg lettuce, green beans, peas, carrots, melons, pancakes, chicken nuggets, eggs, scrapple, cheeseburgers, fries, fajitas (steak, chicken, or shrimp), hot dogs, md blue crabs, crabcakes. That's really about it. I have one dish that I get at every restaurant and I rarely deviate. The few times I have, I was greatly disappointed.
I won't touch fish, lobster, crawfish, oysters, pork, most cuts of steak, chicken on a bone, tomatoes, soups, venison, wild game, okra, Brussels sprouts, sushi.
i love coffee and desserts. Anything except coconut. I hate coconut.

I don't eat anything that lives underwater. Fish, shrimp, seaweed, etc. I just don't like the taste or smell. I try fish (salmon/shrimp) every few years but never ever like it. My sense of smell is too good, I think. It just always smells rotten to me, even if it got pulled from a river 5 minutes ago.
I do eat lots of things other people won't: lima beans, brussel sprouts, etc. Fish is just the only thing I don't do. I've eaten some very interesting cuisine when I've traveled internationally, too, including fermented pisco, guinea pig, etc.

I could eat pasta every day for the rest of my life. Even if it's plain and cold from the fridge. I love it with any kind of topping or sauce.
OTOH, there are not enough sauteed onions on earth to disguise liver. Not.Ever.Going.To.Eat.It.

My favorite meal is probably steak and shrimp with a baked potato. My favorite cake is cheesecake.
I'm not a huge fan of seafood in general (except for shrimp and tuna), but I'll eat it on occasion. But if I'm at a restaraunt and they have fish and something else, I'll usually get something else. I also don't like cranberry sauce or stuffing.
I don't care for lasanga or pumpkin pie. Mostly because I don't like really mushy stuff, so it's more of a texture thing. Though do I do think pumpkin pie is kind of bland in taste.
Other than that, I'm not that picky of an eater. Except for the stuff that's obviously gross like fried beetles or grilled seaweed or something.

I will eat pretty much any vegetable that's put in front of me, except I will pick visible carrots and celery out of anything I'm eating that contains either. (yes, I'm 5 years old haha...) I don't think I can narrow it down to one favorite food, but sauteed greens and steamed veggies are definitely up there. sushi, beans, and in-season fresh fruit too. least favorite - I can't stand even the smell of chocolate. I don't care for the taste of red meat, and have been known to present myself as a strict vegetarian on business trips to countries where the menu isn't in either English or French (that I can understand) after hearing horror stories about what various colleagues inadvertently ordered.
