Omigosh! Please don't forget asking for the consult with the infectious diseases doctor! I've already said a prayer for your DH and am thinking positive thoughts...for both of you.

Nasgul, You both are in my prayers that he gets better soon. For you men and women who are reading what just happened - PLEASE don't assume that just because you feel fine that you are after a procedure of any kind. Even if you are an outpatient. Take it easy for at least 48 hours. DH almost lost his dad recently because he felt fine after a surgical procedure. His wife found him out in the yard bleeding and it took 3 transfusions to save his life. He thought it was ok to mow 6 acres (riding lawnmower) after the procedure. It wasn't.

Update: DH is slowly getting better. He is off of the Iv's like saline because he's now hemodynamically stable ( in other words, his blood pressure is balanced so he's no longer trying to check out of this world ). He's still on IV antibiotics and still spiking quite high fevers every few hours. He's thinking better, eating better, and can stand up slowly by himself and walk about 1000 ft. very slowly now.
He'll be in the hospital for a couple more days at least. He has to go a full course of antibiotics, and he has to have normal temps for a 24-hour period of time before he is discharged. He will have a slow recovery at home, but he's on the mend. We asked for a consult with the Inf. Disease dept. ,so we'll see what develops.
If I find out that something went awry during his procedure, it will be hammer time.
Tonight, my dear father ( whom I get along with most of the time ) started lecturing me about how procedures are a risk vs. reward situation and how we have to think it out before we undergo a procedure. He was having a good time giving me another one of his endless "teaching moments" and I pulled him up short. I was very angry with him. He never loses an opportunity to lecture and he acts as if we're freaking idiots. He doesn't want to be considered less than fully capable in any way despite his age, and I really told him off. This is not the time for that shit. My DH has done a lot of research on the treatment modality that he wants for his prostate cancer, and we need to support and respect that decision. Sorry, Lecturing Dad. Love ya, but take a hike. My DH almost died a few days ago, and I am in no mood.
Thanks for caring about us, everyone. I've been at the hospital so much and am so tired the rest of the time that I haven't been spending much time online.
I did finish out Django, though. Interesting. Interesting. High body count and some great "special" gore effects. They had the badlands in Mississippi and the Rockies in Texas, from some of the scenery. They had men wearing bowler hats in the 1850's and a Clydesdale pulling a victoria carriage instead of a fine team of trotters. It was pretty funny.

Nazgul Girl - I'm sorry your dad decided to give you a lecture. However, I'm very happy to hear that your DH appears to be doing better. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/highfive.gif) Fingers crossed for 24 hours of no fever and he can come home shortly. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/pray.gif)

So sorry your DH (as well as you and the pup) are going through this, NasgulGirl - but he's recovering so that's the up side. I'd definitely check (sooner than later) as to why he was discharged after his procedure with a fever that high. Also tell your own Doctor.
That's something that you shouldn't let slide. You may be saving someone else's life down the road if they start checking more closely before discharging patients.

Nas.....I don't want to belabor the issue much, but I am concerned for your DH. It sounds like he acquired the infection in the hospital and hospital infections are particularly nasty because they have ugly bacterial resistance patterns. There *should* have been an infectious disease doc consult on his case by now. I had one within 24 hours of walking into the ER when I walked in with my infection. She directed my entire stay there and was essentially my primary doctor until the infection was cleared. My orthopedic surgeon was only supporting cast until then.
Please insist upon it, and sooner is better than later.

If I find out that something went awry during his procedure, it will be hammer time. My bet is on a hospital-acquired infection rather than an "oops" moment during the procedure. Glad to hear he's getting better!
