"Yeah, we're really glad we have all these guns so we can take the law into our own hands and personally mow these guys down - the right to a trial and innocent until proven guilt be damned. Oh, and if innocent people end up as collateral damage because we made an identity mistake or have poor shooting skills, oh well." Said no thinking, caring citizen, ever.

Paul, this has to be one of the lowest, most surly, most inconsiderate posts I've ever seen on this board. I'll leave it here, but know this: It speaks loudly to who YOU are. We'll let it do so.
Chiver, I've been trying to keep up with things since Monday. I've had company and have only been able to grab a minute or two here and there. My heart goes out to all of you who live and work in the midst of this atrocity. Your fellow citizens comported themselves well. They ran into the fray to help those who needed them. While what happened was hideous, Boston and her people let us all see their hearts and souls, and it's a beautiful sight. My condolences to the families and friends of the wounded and the lost. This is painful for each and every one of us.

Whether the op is considerate or not, I'll leave that up to others.
But I suspect someone in Boston would feel safer if they had a firearm as they are being told to hunker down.

Frankly, fairlycrazy, I don't think the political football currently known as "gun control" is particularly interesting in connection with this tragedy. It certainly isn't to me. Far more relevant are those dead and wounded, their families and their friends. There's already a thread on gun control. Anyone who feels that discussion is a priority is welcome to discuss it there.

As someone who is now only one season behind on watching Burn Notice, I'll have to say guns don't seem like a logical safety choice against a bomber. One can blow walls open or throw a grenade or bomb in a room before entering.
If *I* were in Boston I'd be praying they catch this guy ASAP and that everyone injured recovers.

I usually avoid these threads like the plague.
My preference would be that the suspect be caught by now. But...were I home in MA right now, one of our guns would not be locked up.
No hoopla and histrionics, just a law abiding citizen doing what I can to protect myself. There are all kinds of people like me.
The assumption that we can count on law enforcement to be everywhere and do everything is flawed, imho.

I imagine that's what most people are doing if they own guns, Malarky. Thing is, what happened in Boston isn't about guns. It's about death, sadness, and loss, at this point. If this thread turns itself into another discussion about guns, I'll lock it.

Not much else to discuss here if the conversation can't be about guns. But then we have more than active threads about guns and the Boston bombing.

Boston is probably the only major city that if you fuck with them, they will shut down the whole city....stop everything...and find you.

There is definitely much that can be discussed here. We can discuss our shock, and our horror at what's happened in Boston. We can discuss our feelings regarding those who were killed and injured, and their families and friends. We can discuss the bravery and self-sacrifice of those in the vicinity of the blasts who put themselves in danger to help those who were injured. We can discuss our commonalities as American citizens. We can discuss the fact that, when the chips are down, we join together as one. Guns have nothing to do with any of that.

Frankly, I am amazed at the show of force to get this asshole. The law enforcement has been amazing. Brave doesn't begin to describe it.

I always cherish these self-congratulation threads. The smugness and the simpering gloating never grow tiresome.
Not!

Civilians owning guns wouldn't have prevented the marathon bombing.
The police officer killed by the terrorists was armed. The police officer currently in the hospital, shot by the terrorists, was armed.
With the thousands of armed law enforcement personnel in the area, I wouldn't want to walk outside with a gun. They had enough to worry about without confronting armed civilians.
So... my personal belief is that the subject of gun control is irrelevant to the situation. Just my two cents.
========================
And congratulations and thanks to all the police personnel who did a fine job!!!! The whole U.S. is grateful to you for your bravery and selflessness.

Steve, I'm not usually a tattletale, but I reported that post. Did you? It appears to have gone up around 5:00 am eastern. I think we should let the mods wake up and get a cup of coffee on board before we accuse them of hypocrisy.

Rockon, Steve, please report the posts. Mods don't fix things they don't know about. Mmhmm has sanitized or removed posts in the past that veered into poster bashing against Paul.
I wasn't up posting around 5AM, my guess is neither were any mods in P&M and they would need to read the thread.

One of the mods called the post negative and unacceptable, but did not bash the person who wrote it by calling them names. Big difference.
