I don't know if anyone else has this problem. But there are a few sayings or phrases I really hate.
The one that prompted this thread was the term "baby bump."
I HATE this term. I'm not really sure why, but I think it's because the only time I hear it is in celebrity news headlines of "so and so shows of her baby bump."
I've never heard anyone in "real life" use the term baby bump or "showing off a baby bump." Everyone just says "I'm pregnant."
The underlying reason this bothers me is because I don't feel a baby, or being pregnant is a fashion acessory and I am concerned the message such articles and phrases might be sending to the young and impressionable.
What about you? Are there any sayings or phrases that bug you?

"Think outside the box" and "Bucket List". Both of those phrases make my eye twitch!

Preggers. I think it sounds disgusting. Don't know why, but I do. Luckily we are out of the phase where everyone is having babies - so I don't have to hear it much.

"We're pregnant." Really you're experiencing morning sickness and swollen ankles too? Drove me up a wall and I asked DH to please not phrase it that way.
What happened to saying "We're having a baby?"

Nom - as in "here's a picture of this cake I just made Nom Nom!"
I always think - are you an adult or a 2 year old? There's nothing wrong with using big people words, like delicious or appetizing.

Net, Net.
People in accounting say it. I have yet to figure out what it means. If something is net, then it is net. Why do you need to call it net, net?

Veggies. Makes my eye twitch every time I hear it. Why doesn't everything need to be shortened. Does it really take that much longer to say vegetables?
"O.M.G." makes me want to stab whoever said it.

I'm with you phoenix!! I absolutely hate the saying "baby bump." No real reason why. It just annoys me. I also hate it when companies say "we're like family." That has got to be the most overused phrase in almost every organization. When I was interviewing almost everywhere said either in the beginning or the end of the interview. Last month I went to an awards banquet put on by my association and honestly I lost count of how many times someone got up to the podium and said that phrase. Seriously, I have never looked at anyone I work with as being like family. Some I might consider friends. Really do you even want the people you work with to be your family ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/huh.gif) Guess I am just sick of hearing it and it rubs me the wrong way. Perhaps it is just me ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/idunno.gif)

Net, Net. People in accounting say it. I have yet to figure out what it means. If something is net, then it is net. Why do you need to call it net, net? LOL - because there is net margin and net profit. So, net-net is profit. It means you included EVERYTHING. But yes, it gets old. My husband hates when his mother says "We should go out as a family." He has been known to answer "Do we ever go out NOT as a family - maybe as just a collection of random people that happen to be going the same place. Is there different protocol when you are going out AS FAMILY instead of just as people?" [/span]

"ugly American" In the book the Ugly American was the only one who took time to understand the local culture and help the inhabitants in useful ways.

I am so sick of the phrases "spreading the wealth" and "paying their fair share." This is a bipartisan complaint. I am sick to death of the way both sides use it and interpret it. All around I guess I am just sick of hearing it...

I also hate when people say "hash tag"... you're not on Twitter, you're talking to a live person, you idiot!

I love "It is what it is." I know people hate it, so I tried to come up with an alternative, but "It is what it is" is so perfect. I guess I could say "Not much we can do to change it." But really, why is "It is what it is" so bad? It says exactly what it means.

I think it evokes a cheesy business school young un channeling zen philosophy and looking like a fraud on both counts... 99% of problems can be changed. The other 1% "is what it is." I can't come up with a much better way to say it...

"Low hanging fruit." Stupid business term. Makes me think of testicals. A guy that used to work here used all of those stupid business sayings. I always thought the same thing about "low hanging fruit." He also used "belly button" a lot - I hated that. That isn't a business term, it is a body part!
