I retired without notice. My mother woke up blind. I imagine the cause was a stroke, but we'll never know. I didn't like my boss at the hospital, and I didn't like the path I'd seen the hospital administration adopting. I suppose I could have gotten someone to come in and be with mother while I worked out a notice, but she would have been miserable with a stranger in the house. I couldn't disrupt my kids' life, either. It wouldn't have been right. I was over 70. I simply called my boss and told him I wouldn't be back. Was he happy about it? Probably not. Was it the right thing to do? For my life, and my mother, and my family and I, yes. Yes, it was. mmhmm - very different circumstances. You quite to take care of family. Dark is going to have to figure out how to take care of his family NOW that's he's quite. I get it that everyone has a breaking point, but with kids in the picture I would want to have a have a plan B AND C.

Well, some choices seem "unwise" to others. There are times i have up and moved. Quit a job without plan B and so forth and things have worked out quite well. Sometimes you have to make a bold move by taking a step back to take 2 steps forward. Good luck.

If you don't take care of yourself, you can't do a decent job of taking care of anyone else.

It's just a job. Jobs come and go. Life has ups and downs. Things change. There are times to move on to the next Chapter of your life. What is done is done.

they have cash to fall back on, and they're already begun making cuts in their expenses. IMO if Loop's not worried, why should WE worry?

from what I gather, she has a part-time job that will likely turn into a full time benefitted job in the next 2-3 months.

Dark,
I have been reading your post for quite some times. And I can be wrong in my assessment about you but what I have found so far about you. You are A very smart and caring individual.
You probably read it about my life's history way back and you knows where I am coming from. Sometimes failure and mistakes can be learning experiences.Especially when you are young.
Learn from those mistakes and use them for your advantage. Since you have an loving and supportive family beside of you. You will be A ok.
The first thing that I learnt most useful for me is where my strength, weakness is. Basically finding out what make me tick. Then go for it with full gusto And I have had many failed attempt but I am very happy with how I turned out to be.
The personal success, fulfillment can be different in each individual.
When you not happy with yourself you are not doing anyone's favor by staying put. Good luck! We are all behind you.

Glad to see Dark and Loop are hanging tough together (and Loop, all us men are morons, comes with the territory). Good luck Mr and Mrs Honor2. You're young and smart and full of P & V. Make it count! ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/grin.png)

I don't think I'm going to look for a job. I had one, by most measures a pretty good one, i.e. normal hours, no overtime, didn't have to take work home with me or be on call, paid better than average, and I was completely unhappy. Dark 2.0 is done working for other people. He has no idea what the hell he's going to do with himself, but he's doing it for himself. Oh, and he talks in the third person. He always wanted to do that, so why not start now? Might be a good time to PM Paul and do some brain storming. Who better than to advise you on going out on your own? I got a feelin' things are going to work out just fine. Of course this is assuming that Loop doesn't lose her patience and start smacking you around... ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png) .

I wanted to walk out on a job back in 2008 and if I had the money then that I have now in my savings I would have. The entire dept actually got together and talked about walking out as a unit. Most people couldn't do it. We did have one co-worker that did it though and it was pretty sweet. Two years later the entire dept was laid off. We only got one month severance but most people celebrated. Our supervisor was a horrible person. Every single one of us landed in a better place. Being forced on to something else is probably what we needed. Sometimes I still wish I had walked out that day along with my co-worker...
Dark, I have no doubt you will land on your feet.

Is that a good thing? Dark - I'd be terrified if I were in your shoes. But luckily, you don't think like I do. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/wink.png) I'm expecting for you to end up in a much better and happier place. Good luck.

Because it's different so he won't be bored. Because it brings in the money he and Loop need while they consider their options and decide what their goal is/take stock of their lives. Because those other 4 hours can be used to work on whatever plan he and Loop come up with - whereas he was reluctant to utilize those 6 hours at his company (I remember a thread where we told him to use the time to study.)

all this talk is making me remember that I have my OWN million dollar idea. I haven't moved on it because I need a partner who is a chemist. Well DH's uncle is a chemist. His wife is not doing that well right now, so I don't know if it's a good time to talk to him about it, but I'd like to at least see what he thinks by the end of summer. I've googled it and NO ONE has done it yet (maybe because it isn't possible), but that gives me hope.

Dark, just don't end up in one of those articles a year from now saying you quit your job and lost all your savings/401K because you know we will rip you to shreds ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png)

He always wanted to do that, so why not start now? Hope it works out for you. No offense Dark, but based on reading your posts over the years, I've always thought you were highly susceptable to what's presented on this site, especially from some of the hard blowers. You need to remember that much of what's posted on the internet is total, complete, utter, unadulterated BULLSHIT and adjust your filters accordingly. Just felt the need to put...that...out there. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/wink.png) Anyways, I guess now's the time to go forth and conquer. Whether it be the road to mega-riches or to a cardboard box under a highway overpass, only time will tell. But keep the updates coming. I'll go buy a year's supply of popcorn. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/cool.png)

My BFF lives in a California County with a 19% unemployment rate. Dark is going to need a lot of good juju to get through this one.
