Dancinmama:
To answer the restaurant question: Italian: Venticello's Thai: Can't remember the name--in the vicinity of Venticello's Indian: Aroma American: Lucca or First St. Cafe Mexican: Randy's or Sandoval's (The brother owns Randy's; the sister owns Sandoval's) BBQ type sandwiches: Kinder's Their ball tip sandwich is unbelievable! Fish: Sailor Jack's (but you already know that) And for a more gourmet style cuisine: The Union Hotel We don't care for the Chinese restaurants on First St. We go the The China Garden which is on the corner of East Military and East 5th St. It's above a junky, old bar (The Bottom of the Fifth). The restaurant is nothing fancy but the food is always good. Thanks. And they're all good?!! You're so lucky. We don't have very good restaurant in my small little town. We have to drive to a more metropolitan area to get decent food and the gas to get there makes it even more expensive than it already is. Most of the time, when DH and I want to "treat ourselves" we either go to a Japanese place in town that is excellent or we go to Costco and pick up a couple of lobster tails and steam them ourselves. We have a lot of international cuisine, but most of those restaurants are "fast(er) food" types. We really enjoyed Sailor Jacks - great ambiance and great food - even if it was on the pricey side. The Bottom of the Fifth on 5th St. That's pretty cute. I'm pretty picky about my Chinese food. We used to love a great Chinese restaurant, but the owner had heart problems and it closed. The ambiance was nothing special, but the food was AMAZING. I haven't found a Chinese restaurant that compares. We both love thai food, so that may be one to try if we get up there that way again. This buying a car thing is a lot harder and more time consuming than I ever anticipated. We DID have fun though last weekend. Your town was absolutely beautiful and so was wine country. I really can't wait to hit the road with DH and see all the beauty this country has to offer. DH is getting a little impatient and just wants to start test-driving the more expensive, luxury SUVs; but I am really hoping that we won't have to go to that class to get both comfort and reliability.

Well Safeway (Dominicks) has (NOT) done it again. I have 3 items I want at the other natl chain grocer-2 on the front page of the add (usually best sales/loss leader items). Safeway only matched 1 item, neither from the front page. I will just get them all at the 'other' store and NOT hit safeway at all this week. wish I had the time to sit on the phone and complain EVERY time this happens.

STOCKPILE PRICE: PLANTERS PEANUTS AT SAFEWAY WITH J4U & COUPON
Finally, Safeway is offering something this week at a stockpile price. The Planters peanuts (regular dry roasted was the only one tagged in my store) are on sale for $2.99/16 oz. jar. If you "add" them in your J4U account, the price is reduced by $1/jar to $1.99. Use the $1/1 Planter's coupon from the 1/27 SS and you get 16 oz. of Planters peanuts for $.99/jar.
It is a "one time" use so whatever you buy, you need to buy it in one trip. I was able to get a dozen jars yesterday and the expiration dates are not until 3/2014. They'll be long gone by then.
I got my peanuts going through the self-scanner yesterday to avoid "the look" that can be received from a cashier when using multiple coupons to stockpile a great deal. Unfortunately, the self-scanner required confirmation by the overseeing cashier for every coupon (don't know if they changed those registers or if it was the coupon). Anyway the cashier was very nice about it; no funny looks which was very refreshing. At CVS I would have definitely gotten the "evil eye" from most cashiers.

Dancin i bought 1 of the Planters peanuts on Thur as I only had 1 coupon and also do not want much snack type stuff in the house.
Had a first for me happen at Safeway Thur. My actual cash paid was LESS than I expected after ecoupons & J4U prices. Should have been $3 + tax but was less than $1 + tax. Cannot figure how it happened buy happy - this time. I'm sure it will go the 'other' way next time.

Got my tax refund back yesterday. That was fast I really did intend to get out of CVS, but since I wasn't able to do it a few weeks ago, they keep dragging me along. I may do the P&G deal next week: buy $30, get back $10 EB. Charmin is a participating item, and there's an available $5 savingstar credit WYB $20. I was thinking: 4 x charmin: 21.96 2 x puffs: 3.00 2 x pantene: 6.67 =31.63 -$3/2 pantene -$1/2 puffs -2 x $1/2 charmin -$5 EB =20.63 I'll pay most of the balance with a visa giftcard that I got from a rebate, then get back $10 EB, $5 SS credit, and a $5 beauty club EB. Not too bad of a deal, especially since I'm on my last pack of TP and last box of kleenex

Thanks for the peanuts deal dancinmama. I was able to get 3 with the Qs that I had.
emhalf, Do you know if the new charmin sensitive is included in the P&G deal? There were vocal point coupons for the sensitive brand.

^I'm pretty sure they only listed basic, extra soft, and extra strong in the ad preview
Thinking about changes to coupons and wording, I noticed something new on the $7/1 crest whitestrips Q coming out this weekend. It has "Cashier-verify this purchase" in large red print in the center of the coupon. They may have been doing this for awhile and I haven't noticed, but it stood out to me. I'm sure high-value coupons like that get abused all the time.

HOT CVS CLEARANCE: CONAIR HOT AIR BRUSH 75% OFF!!
$30.99 Regular Price -23.25 75% Clearance (If marked @ only 50% off, make sure to scan!! ) $7.74 + .67 Sales Tax $8.41 OOP on GC At the regular price, I would have paid an additional $2 in sales tax alone, so this clearance sale actually saved me $25.25!! I actually use one of these as it is an easy way for someone who is not into "doing hair" to have an easy time of it. I can't remember when I bought mine and I've been "worried" that it could crap out at any time and I would be stuck paying full price for a replacement!! Without $/$$, I am no longer earning, holding, and rolling EBs, but I have a boatload of GCs and this is EXACTLY how I had planned to use them!!

Thanks for the peanuts deal dancinmama. I was able to get 3 with the Qs that I had. AWESOME!! $.99/16 oz. jar is a great price, for sure. IMHO, they are a good, healthy snack as long as you don't eat half a jar in one sitting. I'm glad that a couple of you gals got to get the deal.

(Only some about groceries, pardon the NAG) Hi, guys, long time no talk. Last year was a hard year. I had to close my business of 10 years, my sister moved across country (away from me), so now both siblings and all my boys' cousins are across the country. So much went into her move and closing the business, so I had to cut something for a while. I am still not working as I am still tying up loose ends with my business, and thankfully, couponing, ebay, and yardsales have been able to cushion my being out of work. I am still doing the deals, although I am trying (unsuccessfully ) to cash out of CVS, but they keep luring me back in and my EB and cash card pile keeps growing. RA continues to treat me well, and I have had some success with Walgreens, too. The last two weeks at Kroger were a lot of fun and it was nice to get some food deals as those have been very lean since 2011. I hope everyone is doing well, and I hope I will be able to contribute some more here. I plan to work PRN (per need with several companies) until the end of the school year, and then I am going to seriously look at getting on board with a recruiter to move out west to be near my siblings. There are many positions in OR and WA, but I am hoping to find something with a moving package in OR, southern ID, Northern NV, or maybe NorCal (but I doubt it). Anyhoo, until moving time, I hope to be able to report more deals here....

It's not like you to go so long without posting. I thought we had lost you forever. I am so sorry to hear that you had to close your business. It sounds like you've had a really rough year. I hope 2013 brings nothing but great things for you.

I had to stop at CVS tonight on my way home to pick up a prescription and burn $5 ECBs that expired today. I ended up doing:
1 Maybelline Mascara $7.49 1 Mabelline lip balm $4.19 3 BIC Advanaced 4 ct. 50% off $3.89 each 2 Old Spice Bodywash 50% off $2.49 each
minus $2/$10 Beauty Purchase CRT $1/1 Maybelline eye $1/1 Mabelline lip $1/$5 Bodywash or soap CRT $1/2 Oldspice (3) $2/1 BIC Razor
AND they let me use a 20% off coupon even though all of the above items were on sale/clearance.
I used the $5 ECB expiring today and a $6 ECB expiring Monday. Paid $3.17 OOP and got a $3 ECB back.
There was a TON of clearanced Pantene/Herbal Essences shampoo and conditioners at my store, all were sold out for me but just in case anyone else is in need, give it a check and see if you're lucky!

Thanks for the warm welcome (back), ladies! I have finished up my RA shopping this week, with the weekly UPs and the anniversary UPs (up to $150) on each of my two cards tackled. I was very grateful for the great Osteo Biflex Deal! CVS has mostly been clearance deals and Glade deals with one card still having a pesky $20 in EBs that I need to use tomorrow and change into cash card. I also have Walgreens to finish up for the week tomorrow since the register was popping out $5/$20s with each purchase today. The $5/$20 will help with trading out some RR and points deals tomorrow, so I am pretty excited.

Since mid-December when I had over $75 worth, that is EXACTLY what they were to me. I just no longer had any enthusiasm for doing the "work" of rolling them/using them efficiently. Then the cash card deals came along and I was sooooo thrilled to have such a great way "to get out". Now, for only the second time in almost (4) years, I am EB-less. If my CVS still offered the great customer service that I was spoiled by AND IF I was getting good $/$$, I would be bummed to be out of EBs....but I'm not.

I still have $5.00 EB that expire at the end of the month. Not that EB's are "pesky", but, the "deals" just aren't there. Hate to waste them, but also, since we have limited space and a good stockpile... Well, at least for what we need/want, I'm not sure what I'll do with them. I guess it's a good problem, right? Thank goodness for a good stockpile. So, today I'm going to Meijer. This week's ad has Baileys coffee creamers, 3/$4. Have $1.00 coupons that haven't expired, and MPerks for 5% off grocery...

I didn't mean to start something with the "pesky" adjective..... I think most of the drugstore sales slow down during February and then things pick back up in March with March madness tie-ins, etc. I did manage to finish up the last of my EBs on Glade candles to yardsale and some clearanced Gillette cartridges to re-sell on ebay, so now I am down to giftcards only. I also had a good time at WAGs as I found one of my stores had replenished the AZO, and I was able to flip some AZO and Culturelle back and forth using some $5/$20 to get some other products for resale at yardsale and ebay. I also used some of the last of my Tresemme BOGOs at Target as they auto for $6 (unless you have a grouchy cashier) and the products are $3.49. These also sell well for me at yard sale.

Mispt, I liked the "pesky" adjective. I think it's accurate. Wouldn't it be nice if CVS would eliminate the expiration dates on EB's?

Hey Misspt glad to see you! I've been mostly lurking not posting too much! I thought I was finished with my CVS ECB's last week, but they decided to send me a survey and I was given a $10 ECB for taking it . I have several deals I want to do this morning so I should not have a problem using it. I was SOOOOO disappointed that my Wag's store was not spitting out the $5/20's. I tried both days and nada.....I definitely spent the amount needed to get these so I guess my state was not getting them . I hope everyone has a great Sunday!

Welcome back! We missed you, for sure. So sorry about your business but maybe that was the universe telling you it was time to head west.
You were so helpful to me when DD1 was thinking about PT programs. She will graduate with her DPT in April! She's actually thinking about working as a "travelling" PT because they not only pay a salary, but also room and board. She's looking at @ $90,000 in student loans and wants to get those down asap. Have you looked into that type of contract work? She said it's fairly easy to get on with the company and you can even tell them what area you want to work. Hawaii sounds good to me, right??
Re CVS: perhaps they will see that they have to clearance more items when folks can't coupon there anymore. I truly think this is a cycle that will run its course and we will hopefully begin to see some better deals. Like Dancin, my cards are producing diddly sqat these days. I have a $5 EB so I bought a big can of mixed nuts that were on sale for $5.99. I like to put nuts out when we have company and my sister and her DH are coming for lunch today.
I also have a $4 UP. Haven't had one of those in ages!

Hooray for all the postings from old friends!!! For all of me this may as well be a Grocery Challange Chat thread. In case anyone is wondering the Staples ad this week is so exciting I think someone needs to teach me how to knit. My mom tried teaching me how to crochet when I was young and I never got the hang of it. It seems like I will have plenty of time to take it up again. I have cahsed out of CVS for a while too. I haven't had much in ECB's for a few weeks and nothing seems enticing enough to make me jump back in yet. I also have enough of most of everything to stay out and wait for the best deal to pop up. I have been thinking about this for a while and I don't think I adequetly thanked everyone here. I don't think I have what most would call a stockpile mostly because of space constraints but thanks to all of you I have a VERY well stocked pantry! Thanks to all of you I managed to do it while saving half of my grocery budget. Who knew when I started this that the most well stocked item in my pantry would be the cash in my EF? Thanks!!!

Well, CVS lured me back in after I cashed out to $0 yesterday: Schick Sensitive Hydro Shave Gel 8.4 oz $4.29 with $1.50 off peelie in front of store display get $4 EB (L2) Conair Clearance Curling Iron $2.47-$4.99 get $5 EB (L2) Used a gift card and now have EBs again. Murphpath: With kids, I wouldn't do traveling therapy as both of my boys are in school and need their mama at home. I am doing PRN and ebay/yardsale stuff and doing well. We are looking at moving out west, so I feel pretty sure I can find a good package with moving, etc as I have 15 years experience.

I think they had so many problems with fraud in 2012, particularly counterfeit $4/$20s sold on eBay for I don't know how long that were used by a boatload of couponers, that CVS may be re-thinking a lot of what they offer. I myself never ordered/used any of those, but I did occasionally print $4/$20s from iheartcvs when erica would provide links to them from a newspaper that published them on-line. It "seemed" perfectly legit, but the fact that CVS put the kabosh on her doing that now makes me rethink/question it. At the time maybe it was and maybe it wasn't. Additionally, I believe there was a lot of abuse of the $/$ cosmetics or $/$ oral care type of CRTs which is why we're not seeing a lot of them right now. I know myself, I used a $/$ cosmetics CRT on wrinkle cream and it sailed right through, but some "authorities" suggested that those coupons were only supposed to be used on "makeup". A couple of years ago, there was a CRT for $5/$XX (I can't remember now, it might have been $20) any Halloween "decor" that was "working" on candy. The cashiers at my store didn't have any problem with it being used on candy, but maybe CVS corporate felt differently. And then there's the stacking of $/$$ with $/$ product CRTs. Apparently that is "NOT allowed" and I had been doing that for years thinking that it was COMPLETELY legitimate. Personally, I don't know how many of these "situations" with using CVS CRT coupons were NEVER really allowed (but cashiers/store managers looked the other way) or how many of them were allowed, but corporate now wants to stop allowing them. It seems that things that we all took as a "given" as being allowed when using CRTs (stacking, getting overage, etc.) are no longer being allowed at many CVS stores across the country. And these "situations" are the EXACT things that brought our OOP down to next to nothing on a regular basis. Hopefully, I'm wrong and all will return to "normal" soon, but somehow I don't think that that's going to be the case.

HOUND ALERT:
If anyone has the following from today's paper and won't be using them, I'd love to take them off your hands! $1/2 Arm and Hammer Laundry Products $4/1 Shick Hydro 5 or Hydro Silk $5/2 Shick Hydro 5 or Hydro Silk razors or refills TIA! I really need to stockpile laundry detergent and that Arm and Hammer coupon will help me out this week. I also LOVE the Hydro Silk razors but I'm down to I think only 2 left Like the rest of you, I'm bored this month with most of the deals. Nothing has really been getting me excited at CVS at all! Only 1 of my stores did a really good clearance, but 99% of everything was OOS by the time I got there. I tend to do 95% of my shopping anymore at Shoprite. I'm really hopeful that this month with Lent starting we will start to see some seafood deals, and that next month being Frozen Foods month we'll see some stock up sales ... fingers crossed!
