Why did Armstrong go on Oprah to confess his sins to the High Priestess of Talk TV? What was the point? What did that accomplish? I don't really understand why he choose to do that. Yeah, now we all know he was doping. But, wouldn't it have made more sense for him to just stay in the background and out of the spotlight? I don't get it.

The out of the spot light part is probably the piece of your plan that he didn't like the sound of.

Maybe confession is part of his rehabilitation? Or maybe he felt he had to come clean? They say confession is good for the soul. As for why he did it on Oprah? Because a million billion people watch that stuff and his message was sure to get out to the masses.

His career options are better if he is a reformed doper rather than a disgraced doper.

He was once the most bankable athlete. Everyone wanted a piece of him. He was dating Sheryl Crow. He did a cameo in a huge movie. He was a superstar. Now, his 15 minutes of fame is up. He is hoping to stretch that out to 16 minutes.

The most important thing that we can take away from this interview.....Is that Oprah needs to slow down on the groceries.

And to help make this money related -- Livestrong stuff is hella cheap on the Nike website these days. LOL - I bet it is. I will be interested to see what happens with that. I find Livestrong's articles and advice to be okay, at best. A lot of times I find the information so incredibly basic that it is a waste of time. Sometimes the article is mediocre. I'm wondering if they lost their way. Are they a fundraising group? Or a health and wellness website? Or cancer support and post-cancer support? Or a weight loss program? Without their strong face, will they be able to succeed? They must be in chaos.

Are performancing enhancing drugs linked to testicular cancer?

Are performancing enhancing drugs linked to testicular cancer? Steroids definitely are. I don't think blood doping is, although there are apparently many types of blood doping. I doubt there's any connection between Mr. Armstrong's cancer and his doping, unless he switched to doping from earlier steroid use.

I see. I haven't followed the story at all so I only read about the performance enhancing things. I don't even know what blood doping is.

Blood doping is where they put extra blood with extra oxygen into the athlete. Like giving blood, but in reverse. It is suppose to give you more energy or something.
Last weekend, my husband and I gave blood and then he went out for a ride. He came back and said "If getting an extra pint would be the opposite of giving a pint, I totally get blood doping."

Thank you, Thyme. I had no idea. I had heard the term, of course, but never researched it to see what it was all about.

I think I just told you everything I know. I really don't want to know any more than that - because it kind of creeps me out.

I think some celebrities who go on Oprah to confess their sins gives them a sense of absolution - like confessing to a priest. The only difference is, with a priest there's just one person hearing you bare your soul - with Ophrah, it's a million.

Plus when you confess on Oprah you get the Oprah PR machine helping you handle the fall out. That's not why he confessed, just why he confessed on Oprah.

One thing for sure! Lance Armstrong is a fine looking specimen of a man! He's got lovely, strong legs. Who are we to judge?

I think he confessed this way to put this whole thing to bed. This way he knows the entire planet saw his confession and he can move on with his life instead of constantly being harassed about it. Plus Oprah is a lot more sympathetic than a pack of journalists at a press release.
