An 'improved' poll on flu and vaccination. Your feedback is appreciated.
For reference, the complete answers are:
[ ] - never had the flu; am vaccinated 0-25% of the time. [ ] - never had the flu; am vaccinated 25-75% of the time. [ ] - never had the flu; am vaccinated 75-100% of the time.
[ ] - had the flu; always mild; 75-100% of the cases occurred in years I wasn't vaccinated [ ] - had the flu; always mild; 75-100% of the cases occurred in years I was vaccinated [ ] - had the flu; always mild; neither of the two above apply
[ ] - had the flu; was severe at least once; 75-100% of the cases occurred in years I wasn't vaccinated [ ] - had the flu; was severe at least once; 75-100% of the cases occurred in years I was vaccinated [ ] - had the flu; was severe at least once; neither of the two above apply
By 'severe', I mean 'significantly worse than a cold'. By 'mild', I mean 'comparable to a cold'.
And if you have had the flu, consider yourself 'vaccinated' for a case only if you received the vaccine for that year at least two weeks before you contracted the illness. Otherwise, consider yourself not vaccinated for that case.

What is the difference between a cold and the flu?
The flu and the common cold are both respiratory illnesses but they are caused by different viruses. Because these two types of illnesses have similar flu-like symptoms, it can be difficult to tell the difference between them based on symptoms alone. In general, the flu is worse than the common cold, and symptoms such as fever, body aches, extreme tiredness, and dry cough are more common and intense. Colds are usually milder than the flu. People with colds are more likely to have a runny or stuffy nose. Colds generally do not result in serious health problems, such as pneumonia, bacterial infections, or hospitalizations.
How can you tell the difference between a cold and the flu?
Because colds and flu share many symptoms, it can be difficult (or even impossible) to tell the difference between them based on symptoms alone. Special tests that usually must be done within the first few days of illness can be carried out, when needed to tell if a person has the flu.
What are the symptoms of the flu versus the symptoms of a cold?
In general, the flu is worse than the common cold, and symptoms such as fever, body aches, extreme tiredness, and dry cough are more common and intense. Colds are usually milder than the flu. Strange title - "Improved Flu Poll" - how is flu "improved" - does it get weaker or stronger? ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

That's why I put in the 'mild' set of answers. For people like myself who strongly suspect we've had the flu at least once, but didn't experience any earth-shaking symptoms.

...I hear you, Ihearyou2... fwiw, I was comparing my "one and only flu" to my colds (numerous) and sinus infections/bronchitis (not as numerous)... the flu was different... I didn't self-diagnose... I just knew something was abnormally wrong... so I went to urgent care and they told me I had the flu... eta ...fwiw really ought to be added to the spell check dictionary... as well as the emoticon shortcuts... imo...

"Severe" is a relative term. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) What is severe/almost died to a man are minor sniffles to a woman. Everyone knows that.

They never ask a human female if they want to be spayed because then the doctor WILL be neutered by the female with his own operation instruments. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) It is much better if the human male doctor uses the term tubal ligation.

But really is this flu poll improved enough. Cause I sure didn't feel the love in the first botched poll. And now this one is really iffy at best.

What? There's supposed to be love with a flu poll? I'm so confused. Do I need to feed a virtual squirrel or find some RL squirrels? Please advise. ![](http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/smileys/1.gif)

"Severe" is a relative term. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) What is severe/almost died to a man are minor sniffles to a woman. Everyone knows that. I define 'severe' in the OP. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/nerdy.png) I suppose if a fellow considers a cold to be the end of the world, then he might object to that being used as the baseline for a 'mild' illness... Dey gets juiced every year an' dey never ever gots da flu, and by gum dey gonna make sure da world knows it! ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

Actually, that whole page on the brainteaser thread is pretty much Sugi flying off the handle. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)
