Of course I eat ice cream in the 5 days of winter we have! Do you eat hot soups in the summer? I admit I never got the "seasonal" eating thing.

Ice cream is just like glazed donuts....they are meant to help solve problem when eaten. Therefore I'm seldom with out one or the other of them in the house.
I really really dislike the Christmas carol Silent Night. Is there one you dislike that hearing it you hit the mute button on the TV or car radio station?

Musically 'The First Noel' is horrible ......... there is absolutely no variety in it at all. Boooorrrrriiinng I don't like singing it, don't like playing it, don't like listening to it. Fortunately it's also short so I deal with it.
Do you have plans for New Years Eve? The stroke of midnight?

I inadvertently received a discount for a $30 (or was it $20?) tablet at the Verizon store. I had to go in there to pick up my new phone on Black Friday, and they were running the deal. I also saved 30% at Walgreens on stocking stuffer candy for signing up for their shopper card. All in all, I've been very impressed with customer service this year. Do you think people being "so busy these days" has segued into the holiday season? Meaning, people aren't slowing down, despite the fact the holidays are upon us?

Ice cream in the winter - YES. Hot soup in the summer - mostly NO. If it's what's for dinner, I'll eat it, but I don't seek it out, and I won't make it. (Jambalaya on the other hand...) Christmas music - I hate Christmas music. If I like a Christmas song, guarantee it is because of a (short) specific arrangement/performance, and not the song in general. New Year's Eve - By midnight, I should be home and asleep, as I'll be up to walk the dogs from 7:15a-8:15a before I'm on the road at 8:45a. I will be celebrating with friends until midnight East Coast time. Holiday Sales - I was forced by the motor in my washer dying on Thanksgiving day to take advantage of appliance sales. I also got a couple of mattresses on Cyber Monday sales. So busy - I don't think I've ever really seen people slow down for the holidays. Maybe at work, but "life" has always seemed busier at the holidays to me than other times. It was one of the things we struggled with as parents.
Question: Tomorrow is my birthday. This means I have throughout the years gotten "combined" gifts. Have you ever gotten a combined gift? What was it?

I rarely get sick, and when I do it's usually when I'm on vacation. About 5 years ago I got a mild version of the flu over New Years.
I have one sibling I'm 'out of step' with. Things became strained at a Christmas event two years ago, and we now have very minimal communication. Do you have any formerly-close relatives you now have little to no contact with because of something that happened at a Christmas gathering in the past? If so, do you have to spend this Christmas in their presence in order to keep peace in the family?

It didn't happen at a Christmas party but it did happen. And it's sad. My sister and I were in and out of her house growing up. She was the same way at our house. I don't know what happened and other family members told me not to ask. It's a shame.
Anyone here a diabetic?

Answer: not sure who is diabetic. However surprisingly I am not type 2 diabetic. Comment: this is the first time I have heard many people wanting to 'opt out' of this Christmas tradition for giving gifts to the adults. The children will receive their gifts. even on the radio stations. people are saying they will purchase gifts for the kids; while saying please don't give them a gift. also, people are not attending the Christmas parties with family and friend. Because they do not want to receive any gifts while they are not giving out gifts to the adults. Question: Are you giving your gifts to both children and adults this year?

Our family "opted out" of Christmas giving for adults several years ago. We still give something if we want to (usually something homemade and simple), but there is no obligation. This year, being the first year I feel confident with a sewing machine, I've made hot pad sets for the guys (made based on interests, they all like to cook), and little bag/purse things for the gals. The kids got a game or money, depending on age, and I spent more than usual on my son (mostly because his big item was expensive, I got the last seats available at the time to see Hamilton this spring).
Did you make any of the gifts you gave this year?

nope never made any gifts as an adult to give Question: would you rather cozy up with a good book to read or cozy up watching a good movie you have seen before during this Christmas season?

I would prefer to cozy up with a good book, but right now, my ability to really focus my attention is low, so I'm more likely to cozy up with a good movie I've seen before and multi-task my way through it.
My office and just about everyone I know has been hit by a nasty cold/sore throat this winter season. I'm starting to feel the beginnings of it myself. Is your area being hit? Are you getting sick?

I haven't gotten sick, yet. Last week I was coming off a week of night shifts, and told my son I'd make dinner. Got up to do that, and ended up getting a migraine. Finished making dinner and went back to bed. I slept for 30 hours (minus the hour or two I was up to make dinner). I slept 15 hours the next day, so I figured my body was trying to fight something off, and I let it. DS got sick a couple days later. I hope I can just sleep everything away!
Have you tried any new recipes lately?

Soup recipes. I've made three new soups this season - parsnip, chicken and brown rice, and butternut squash. I've been really pleased with all of them, which is good, because they've been made for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.
Most of the recipes I look for now currently are gluten free and vegan due to my BFF's wife having Celiac's disease and being allergic to dairy. Do you deal with food restrictions in a lot of your cooking?

My parents passed away within 6 months of each other, and BIL made a point of harassing me during their wakes and after their funerals. When I cut my DS out of my life, I no longer had to deal with his sarcastic drama. It was a welcome relief for me.

Answer: December 2017 cut my brother out of my life. I have him blocked on my cell for calls, texts, and VM! + unfriend him on FB. it is very sad for me. there was a argument we had. he actually pulled out his blade and told me to leave! that was so over the top! so far beyond my comprehension. I decided he will pay for making that mistake. {2} my parents. I have decreased interaction with them dramatically and blocked them as well. because they did absolutely nothing when my brother pulled out his blade! Answer: no food restrictions. but seasoning restrictions is different. like salt and sugar!
Question: are you playing the Mega Millions and or Powerball?

I keep forgetting to get lottery tickets for either one this time. Usually when the jackpots are over $100M I'll get a few. I'm not doing my share of funding whatever financial pot this goes into ..... I'm so ashamed
Any New Years resolutions? That you will truly try to keep?
I have one ...... I want to change my name to Pollyanna and play the 'Glad Game'. I want to find something positive in every situation I find myself in ........

no major new resolutions, other than to keep on being good to me. I started focusing on me, rather than making sure everyone else was okay, somewhere along the way of being my roommate's primary ride while waiting for his Cinderella license post-DUI. I'm in a much better frame of mind now than I was earlier this summer, and I want to keep that going.
what are your plans for NYE? is the northeast cold snap affecting those plans?

I don't have any resolutions, but I am entering 2018 with a clean slate for everything financial. It's really time to clean up my act and to stop blaming DHs death as the reason for all my miserable behavior and thoughts. Maybe that is a resolution.....

I'll answer Chive's question and post another since there isn't one above. DH and I will enjoy our usual seafood feast and jar of joy. A quick search led to this one for kids: Jar of Joy. We've done it for several years now and I highly recommend it. It leads to a lot of good memories, belly laughs and giggles. As far as the cold, meh, it's winter in Colorado and I don't let it stop my fun. Layer dressing and flannel sheets are key. What is one thing about you people in your RL don't know?

My main resolution is to be kind but firm in limit setting with my DS. She's very manipulative and attention seeking; harassed me with hateful comments for about a week pre-Christmas so I blocked her number. I will try to re-establish communication with her but no more of tolerating that stuff, which I've done all my life. Fortunately she doesn't live nearby.

Yes, I eat out a lot, my monthly budget for it is $100, and I seldom spend that much. Most of the eating out is after church related activities and the occasional call that says " let's get together and get caught up on what's going on in our lives.
I seldom cook as my idea of cooking is opening something frozen and putting it in the microwave.
What season do you like better? Winter or Summer?

Return the shoes. Life is too short to wear shoes that hurt. (Is there a possibility that a shoe repair place can stretch that shoe in the spot that hurts your foot?)
How long do your holiday decorations stay up? Mine stay up until January 6.
