At what age should girls start wearing make-up?
I just got a Christmas card from a friend and their 8 year old daughter is clearly wearing eye shadow.
I know that is too young - but, what isn't too young?

I'm 42 and haven't started yet. Maybe when I'm 45? I think 13 is OK.

My 11 year old wears lip gloss, that's all she wants to wear so far. I'd say 12 or 13 myself.

Lip gloss - I was buying stocking stuffers for my daughter, and looking at the lip gloss. I almost bought her the Dr. Pepper flavored lip-smakers. But, stuck with the cotton candy chap-stick looking thing.

My two year old went to daycare wearing my blush. It wasn't worth fighting over. She also likes to put on my eyeshadow I don't know my mom started pestering me to wear a little blush around middle school so 12? .

I wouldn't have a problem with an 8 year old wearing make up if it was a special occasion or playing dressup. Definitely not for everyday though. But I have a boy- so I don't have to worry about it.

I didn't start wearing makeup for real until I was a teen... and I didn't even wear it all the time. My mom has never really worn it - she doesn't need to.

We weren't allowed to wear makeup until we went to HS. Lipgloss was acceptable in MS. Those tins of lip gloss were all the rage back then: blocked due to malware/-CiPve3diqB8/TdZZ06mXnOI/AAAAAAAABrA/7gW7OOTs6q4/s1600/Retro-Vintage-Lip-Lickers-Tins.jpg[/img]

My daughter does dress up - but I would likely make her take it off if we were going to take family portraits for distributing in a Christmas card. I wonder if this little girl wears make-up to school.

I grew up in the deep south, so the girls in my class were all wearing pancake makeup from age 10 onward. I wasn't allowed to wear makeup until I was 16, and by then I just didn't care.

Poor kid, she's got her dad's nose. (That is Katie & Peter's daughter, correct?)

I also had to google Katie & Peter. It does look like the girl in the picture I found.
But how did that couple end up with such a fair-skinned, blonde, blue eyed child? And is the black kid in their family portrait from another father or mother?

I wasn't allowed to wear makeup until I was 16. My son never wanted to wear it, so it wasn't an issue.

LOL Thyme!
The black kid is from Katie's previous relationship, I think he was a soccer player.
(Reason #25 I will never be a rich YM-er - I read celebrity gossip blogs.)

My step-mother told me I couldn't wear makeup until I was 16. My mother bought me makeup for my 13th birthday. I was smart enough not to take the makeup to my Dad's house. And most of the time (being 13) I'd rubbed off the eyeshadow and mascara by the end of the day. However, one day, I'd managed not to rub it off, and my step-mother waited until my father was out of the car to turn to me and say "I thought we agreed that you wouldn't wear makeup until you were 16." I, miraculously, managed to be polite and said "My mom got me makeup for my birthday and I was at her house this morning." Step-mom never brought it up again. By the time I was 16, I was living in a different state than step-mom and not wearing makeup. I wore makeup in middle school and into my freshman year, but not really past that. I don't like getting up in the mornings, so I'd rather that 10 extra minutes of sleep than putting on makeup. Any makeup that is currently in my house hasn't been touched for 8 years or so and really should just be thrown out.
