We are not talking about debt. Were talking about people that stopped looking for work.

Decoy needs to take a course at the MSN Refugee School of Proper Posting Etiquette.

Ok patriot, one time. Debt, do you measure debt yourself by Money only?
Is it ok to borrow, ask for help, take away and promise to give back, not debt?
Say today you could not make it to work driving as you were broke and had no gas. Being your neighbor and the night before you told me this. I had a gas can with 5 gallons of gas in it and offered it to you. You accepted my offer but stated you would not be able to replace the gas as you were to poor to do so even after being paid. However you asked may I cut your lawn for the debt of the gasoline you gave me. And of course I would say why certainly and thank you for your help back.
Debt is measured in all kinds of ways patriot.
Your debt ceiling is about to be raised and Q3 will most certainly come to life. Bad notes we have purchased back and we will surpass China and Japan shortly as the bag holders with more. Which rightfully belong not to the people of the USA but those in which have been raping and pilfering the people of the US year in and year out. These things do not continue forever patriot. And in time you will understand.

I understand what the author is saying but I am not sure that is what those numbers actually mean. They are assuming that the people are not being counted anymore because they stopped looking for work. But I thought that if you reach your limit of UE benefits you are no longer counted. So I don't know if they actually stopped looking for work or the powers that be set up a system that stops counting them once they stop receiving benefits.
Personally I think the latter. I don't know anyone who is unemployed who just gave up unless there was something else like a new child or something come into their life that changed the equation.
Just my 2 cents.

You are correct and many recall when I brought the Tale of The Tape on this out at MSN MT. When you fall off the line, you are simply no longer counted as even exisisting for the most part, period. The current factor is now over 200 applicants per job available and has been growing steadily.

It is important to remember this is a phone survey of a number of households. It has nothing to do with adding up those collecting benefits or not. The following link explains the details of the number. www.bls.gov/cps/cps_htgm.htm

973beachbum, here is a partial of what I am talking about, Quote: The Truth About Unemployment Numbers seekingalpha.com/article/144391-the-truth-about-unemployment-numbersSnerdley, the jobs created that are a vast majority are of min. or just a tad better of wage. The majority of the jobs being created are not of a 40hr. work week but part time. Where do you live? This area a sleeping room for instance is a average of $125.00 - $200.00 per week. There is not a job here unless you care to be a dancer at a club, avon sales, etc. Possibly a Mc Donalds worker or the likes. One does the math they see exactly what I am saying. The 200 to 1 ratio certainly does nobody any good. And the study as to shrinking populations in cities heavily weighs on what many said here at MSN MT, go find work if it is not in your city/town. Well those of you that said that, Wala!

In this case the numbers are done the same way all the time no matter what the job market is. The problem is that people are saying that they mean something that they don't. And politicians are the worst at this!
No longer being counted as jobless only means not receiving UE. It doesn't mean anything else. If we wanted a true jobless rate they would have to do a survey of people starting with the people who exhausted their benefits to see who really is still unemployed and who stopped or got a job etc.
As far as SS US T Bill are a part of almost any retirement account. You may not think they are a good part but there is nothing inherently un investment about them. It is no different that someones 401K being in the form of stock options. It may not the the smartest thing to do, just ask some people who's company's went under. But it is not the same as nothing.

15 MILLION quit looking December 2009. In spite of resume updates made quarterly, the best CareerBuilder and Monster can recommend is-- Insurance Sales. But hey... they sent that recommendation to my dog's resume too (works with woofers and can take care of tweeters).
Pretty simple, we have a CURRENCY to pay workers with so they will use it to create economics that reciprocate the reason for hiring workers in the first place. Nowhere does it say-- hoarding all the money is-- okay. How unfortunate that it takes a million people to suggest the obvious... when the top can't remedy the issues, replace the top, but don't let the economy come to a stop because the top is crap.

This only continues. Rovo and V_L remember me calling for this fantasy island to come to a head. But then came the bailouts and saved the day. And as V_L and others have pointed out that nothing was saved but the milking machine was upgraded to the super duper model. And even more cake rolled in. As with V_L and others I welcome the day for the machine to be pulled of it's plug.
I know that sounds harsh however that happens, or it just shorts out and goes wild. Take the bailouts away and SEE your so called market.

Most people know real unemployment is around 20%.

Post by vl on Feb 4, 2011 15:04:02 GMT -5
50%- of actual able-to-work people. 30% more are under-employed, drowning and fading fast. Of the 20% remaining employed, a fair amount are clinging to jobs they've held for 30+ years or have non-At Will Employment contracts (executive).
It has to be seen as ironic that Mubarak is being ousted when American CONGRESS has done less for the People than that guy has. Start with the Party of NO and tell them to GO HOME. Never in the course of human endeavor have so many served to be so useless to so many and continue to take both a paycheck and pension. THAT has to stop pronto.

The following link explains the details of the number. www.bls.gov/cps/cps_htgm.htmThere was some commentary on NPR lately that said the phone survey is missing a large and growing portion of the population that use cell phones but do not have a land line. I think that would include the majority of people under thirty. I'm not thirty anymore and I got rid of my land line ten yrs ago. A real blessing around election time.

wxyz, Thank you. Quote: Are you kidding? The phony treasuries in the SS fund are not the same as those held by pension funds, etc. They are "special" and pay no "actual" annual interest. There is nothing in that fund but a government IOU for the interest and principle. The government is simply on the hook for the entire amount. The fund is broke right now, the special treasuries are like the "emperors cloths". They represent nothing other than a future obligation to be paid out of general tax receipts. patriot, I would suggest that you do a bit of homework on 'Tax Collection.' Although noble to say all is getting better, best read wxyz and do a numbers check. We can get really carried away here with this thread, but it will become pretty tough keeping track of all the pokers that go into just this segment of things alone. And this is a main reason why so many our on opposite pages. It's a overload.

In the early 1980's SS was bankrupt. We had almost 20% real unemployment. The soviets and Iran were laughing at us. 253 Marines were killed in cold blood in Lebanon. Reagan was running up the National Debt and yet we had a huge recovery.
But for some reason you think there is no chance this time.

Our manufacturing sector, the life blood of the nation imo, didn't recover. We had a vibrant housing sector because of boomer demographics about that time. The credit fueled buying binge from the later 80's until recently was not a huge recovery although it felt like one. We've basically replaced decent paying jobs with lower paying jobs with a credit for a bandaid. Recently, Automobile sales didn't start to improve until sub prime credit became available again. Not because of an economic recovery.

patriot, you just don't get it. You nor' I or anybody else on this board as well as most of the ENTIRE United States will be long gone, before your so called recovery happens. More cake has been created in the past 2 1/2 years than in it's entire run known as the dollar. Do you have any conception of what that means? I seriously doubt that you do because in order for it to be paid back that simply wil not happen in your lifetime or mine or as said above. With that said I bid you a nice afternoon and evening!

One last thing, the William Black piece is not 'OLD NEWS' it's all part of the same B.S. that is going on NOW. Don't get the idea that all of that was 'RESOLVED' it's ONGOING!

Interesting chart between education and jobs! "ONGOING" ..... 11.2 million illegal's........ 8 million are working , the rest are in our prisons. That is 3.7 % of the population. Numbers not added into any unemployment equation! Printer is just warming up!

This isn't the same as in the 1980s. We don't have indigenous manufacturing and no solid base economy to fall back to. The floor is missing and the next one down is literally prehistoric. You are fooling yourself to make apples to apples comparisons. Take away electronic devices and a huge segment of the population freeze where they stand (Palm Disorder). Grown ups can't cook and chemical over-exposure on land prevent spontaneous "victory gardens". One of the worst things you can do right now is ASSUME the past will repeat.
BTW... "link" to the stated unemployment numbers? VALIDATION to yours? We won't know the real figures until we COUNT. That should e the order of the day today. Wouldn't hurt to collect all the credit data on spreadsheets too-- so we can get to the bottom of WHO started this.

I am not sure what that means. Does that mean they just go and live under a bridge or go on govt assistance or what? Does that mean they will never try to find a job for the rest of their lives or that if someone offers them a job they won't take it? That's a valid question. How does one lose one's job, get discouraged, and just quit looking for work? It doesn't seem like a viable option. Most Americans aren't in any kind of financial position to just stop working. I didn't spend six months loading coke into a blast furnace back in the early 1980's as an exercise in character-building. That place was Dante's Inferno on Earth. I did it for money so I could keep the wolves at bay. Food, clothing, and shelter require money. What do people do if there aren't even hellhole jobs like that to go to? 1.2 million former workers just plain no longer work? How do they do it?
