Holly ~ those of us with compromised immune systems CAN'T have the shingles vaccine. Bummer, huh? Seems there's a high risk of getting Shingles if you have a compromised immune system. I am pleased to report that my wonderful DH saw Fiber One on sale at CVS for 1/2 price and bought me all 7 boxes off the shelf yesterday! Woot! Woot! Is he a keeper, or what? (And I was on my last box, too!) I am still eating the last of my sale bananas .... they're now brown and refrigerated, (and definitely overripe), but I am determined to get a few more breakfasts out of them! For two years, we've had a broken VHS/DVD player attached to our TV, along with a cable box, a Roku, and a working DVD/Blue Ray player. I am excited and thrilled to announce that the broken one has been successfully disconnected and is sitting in the garage, awaiting appropriate electronics recycling opportunities. YAY, me. And here I thought I wouldn't be getting ANY decluttering done this week! (grin) I think I was just finally tired of staring at it, and was ready to make it " go away!"I would also like credit for the fact that I am caught up on laundry!!! I watered my tomato plants this morning ~ I will pick some more this evening when I fill bird feeders. I am trying to stay out of the sunshine since it's not helping my shingles (on my face and head) and the thought of trying to apply sunscreen seems ... unwise ... on my face. I did bring in the big trash can ... but the city hasn't emptied the recycling can yet. ( My wonderful DH is out of town, so I am fending for myself!)
Lunch was a turkey sandwich, some pasta salad, and the last of the pineapple chunks. Yum. I've got fresh corn on the cob in the fridge for dinner, probably with some beef hot dogs (no bun) or frozen sausages ... and maybe a cucumber and tomato salad for dinner.

Evening all! Interesting new America's Got Talent on tonight. So far only one act that looks promising. More to go though. Lynn, you go get him! I just don't understand why the guy just won't come over and do the job. It doesn't sound like it would take all that long. Good luck and keep us posted. So, I've made an executive decision. It hit me pretty hard yesterday that my son's graduation from infantry training is next week. He wouldn't have anyone there to watch and celebrate with him. So I decided I was going to ask my supervisor if I could switch my day off from Friday to Monday, and take the day off Tuesday. I'm going to get to see my young'un graduate next week . It's going to be a quick trip down, but I can't wait. It's about five hours from where I live, so I'll leave in the morning and get down there early afternoon. Visiting time doesn't start until 3:30. Graduation is Tuesday morning and I may or may not get to spend some time with him after graduation. Since I haven't been able to talk to him, I have no idea what his schedule is. He will be staying at the same base just a different area for his second phase. I'll keep you posted . I talked to DD today for a bit. She's bored. She is so my mother - has to be busy all the time. Not much to do where she is. She said they all call her an old lady because she goes and plays Bingo. I wish she took after my mom with her luck on winning things - she'd make some serious cash while she's there! (I doubt they play for money though ). She is going to try to take the safety course to start doing some woodworking. Hopefully she's careful . My grandmother is back in the hospital. Apparently she has some sort of infection, and surprise of all surprises - they don't know where. They never seem to know where her infection is every time she is there. I really can't understand why it's so hard to figure out, but I'm not a medical person. I read an article that the FDA wants to start doing some serious regulatory stuff for fecal transplants. That is a procedure where they take someone's healthy BM and put it in someone that can't get rid of serious bathroom issues (trying to be delicate here). It's an amazing procedure that is very highly successful especially for elderly folks. My grandmother had that procedure last year which is what totally turned her health around. I'm so afraid she's going to start with the issues again (it's a by product of antibiotics that strip your innards of the good bacteria). The result is something called C-Diff. With her infection, she will likely be put on the antibiotics that cause this. Please say a prayer that she will get through this, because I don't know that she will have the opportunity to have the "transplant" again. Sorry for the public service announcement . Did I mention I get to see my son graduate next week?

Mother enjoy your sons graduation. I am sure he is glad that you are marking the effort to be there.
I just came in from playing in the dirt. I got some more plants planted.
ETA: I just found out more about my nephews year in Korea. It is not considered a deployment. That will be his assigned base. Once he finishes his year there then he chooses somewhere else to go. It will not be in the United States. The choices are places like England, Germany, Japan, China, Guam etc. I am uncertain whether he chooses 8 places he would like to go and then the AF places him in one or if he gets to choose 1 out of 8 places and that is where he goes. Not sure of the details there. He will then spend 2 years at this other overseas base.

We have been having some nice summer weather, although yesterday was a little hot at 89. This weekend we are supposed to be in the upper 70's and low 80's. Just perfect as far as I am concerned.
DD is finally starting to get interested in wedding planning. Hopefully we can make some progress in that area. She will be done with school for the summer next Thursday and then home on Friday.

This week has been spent on putting out fires with the move of mom and dad on Saturday.
Major hurdle was overcome today. Oxygen has been arranged with no help from her former provider. Oxygen will be set up at 1:30 tomorrow afternoon. I did a Facebook rant on the provider's page and they asked that I call them. Had quite the chat. Story from DN and story from their employee are not alike at all. He says as a Medicare provider, if a patient moves, they have to find a new provider. Employee told DN they did not have to do that. Then there was the issue of needing a canister for the 3-4 drive here. I told him mom suffers from panic attacks and oxygen helps her with those. Company is going over tomorrow to make sure the canister is working that she has and provide a back up. I asked how we get those back and he said not to worry.
I told him once everything is over, we want to get information to the CEO of the company and I now have his email address.
DS and I went shopping and bought bathroom decorations. Mom has never had everything match in her bathroom. In her nice big bathroom, she is going to have everything match. Even bought a matching soap dispenser for her. I'm sure dad will be impressed.
Mom wants me to be with her on Monday while DS takes dad to cardiologist. So I will go there and help her get renter's insurance and call the health insurance company to update address.
Can't wait for this to be over with.
I do think I get the best job on Saturday as I get to stay here and babysit!

Of course. She has forgotten similar circumstances w/her son in 2008. However, then she ended up having him after <1 week of bed rest - 4 weeks early. She is already beyond the 4 weeks early since her original due date was 6/29. WOW, only 3 weeks for full term and less w/her scheduled c-section. theotherme I suspect you will be putting out fires for several weeks. No matter what you do upofront stuff will not properly transfer, get left in a pile on some on vacation/out sick employee's desk.........I suggest you get a LARGE bottle (or 2) of your favorite libation.

Good evening all! Woot - Friday workday is over . Thank God for leather couches - Mason just threw up on one . Much easier to clean than a cloth one! News - DS received a manila envelope last night in the mail. With trepidation, I opened it. Inside was a certificate congratulating him on making the Deans list Proud moment for his mom . Theo, best of luck this weekend. I hope your parents make an easy transition. Hard to believe the big move day is here!! Holly, hope things work out for your DD. I can't imagine being on bed rest. I'm sure she's uncomfortable. Sharon, didn't your nephew have a dog working with him? Does he still have him? I read something about Obama signing into law that the dogs were now considered heroes and not military equipment (apparently they would just abandon them in place) and that they would be brought back to the US, and placed with a family. Breaks my heart to think they would just leave them behind. Lynn, did you get your yard finished yet? I hope so. I'm sure you'll be digging in the dirt in no time . We had our part of the hurricane today. Not too bad considering. I got home and got out of my car and could hear a hissing noise. I officially have my first flat tire in about 30 years . Flat as a pancake in about 90 seconds. I have no idea what I'm going to do. Of course, I was late leaving work today and by the time I got gas, got through the traffic and home, it was 5:30. I have a used tire place about 1.2 miles from my house, but I don't think I can get air in it long enough to drive there. I thought about jumping in the car and driving while it was deflating, but I'm not sure what time they close. Figured my luck it would be closed and I'd miss them by about 2 minutes (I know they are still open at 5, but not sure the firm closing time). And my driveway has a bit of an incline where I park, so I'm not on solid flat surface to jack it up. At least it happened today rather than on my way to North Carolina Monday. I get to see DS on Monday

Mother congratulations on the dean's list letter. DD's grades are finally coming back up since she was able to part ways with the sorority. They had way to many mandatory activities. She is also so much happier since she hasn't had to be a part of that group.
My nephew is still in the canine unit and he definitely brought his dog back with him. Nephew was posting pictures of him taking up 3 airplane seats. Actually he had troubles getting back to base. When he returned from Afghanistan they brought him as far as SC and then it was up to him to get back to FL. The airlines kept bumping him because of the dog. His dog flies in the cabin not as baggage. There wasn't enough room for this big german shepard dog on the plane. He finally had to call the base commander to get help or he was going to be late checking back into base. He was assigned a new dog once he returned from Afghanistan. His previous dog, Luck, was a drug dog. The new dog is trained for bomb detection. I was happier when he had the drug dog. He didn't really like it because he was mostly working on ferreting out drugs among the troops.
I got off work at 2pm today and was going to get a bunch of stuff done around the house. Came home changed my clothes and then laid down on the bed a moment to pet the cat. An hour and half later I woke up.

The rant has done wonders concerning the oxygen. Oxygen was delivered here today. I had to go sign for it. DS talked to mom and company is coming tomorrow to pick up the oxygen tank. Mom said she thought they didn't do that on Saturday and they said they were making an exception for her. Cousin said person DN was dealing with is very difficult to deal with. I didn't think to talk to her about this person. She dealt with her when her husband was dying.
Off to bed to get some shut eye before a 5:30 AM alarm and taking caring of great nephew and niece all day. I do think I got the easy shop tomorrow.
DS informed me I was getting off easy so I reminded her of the Easter family meeting that didn't include me and that I was told when I arrived that it had been decided that I could best help by taking care of the kids. She hasn't mentioned it since I told her that this afternoon.
Holly, I am sure we will be putting out fires. Still, it will be a relief to get the physical move over. Will feel better when house closes on June 14 also.

We were 103 today with poor air quality. (wheeze, wheeze) We're forecast for a record-setting 109 tomorrow with poor air quality. (wheeze, sweat, wheeze) We're forecast for 105 on Sunday. And on Monday. Egads, it's only June.
My wonderful DH is finally back from out of town, and will be home today and tomorrow before flying out for 6 days in Texas on Sunday.
I volunteered at Petco today ... 4 kitten adoptions, yay!
We're harvesting cherry tomatoes every other day or two. We harvested another 2 dozen this evening ... though three of the yummiest ones didn't make it inside the house. (gulp, smile)
I am still dealing with nerve pain from shingles, and asthma from poor air quality. Otherwise, I'm fine.

I wanted to share the story of my trip to Walgreens yesterday. While I was looking for the buy 1 get 1 1/2 off gold bond powder the clerk told me she had a coupon for that and be sure and check out at cosmetics when I ready. I assumed it was a coupon that was in the little book they put out monthly or perhaps a sales rep had left her some coupons. This lady had a whole coupon organizer behind the counter and she cuts out all the cosmetic type coupons out of the paper and keeps them behind the counter for customers. Judging from her coupon folder it is actually multiple papers. I thought that was incredibly nice of her to take the time to do that. She had 2 $1 off coupons on the gold bond powder and applied both of them to my purchase.
We go word last night that my nephew and his bomb dog will be on a temporary assignment with the secret service at the end of the month. Instead of wearing a uniform he will have to wear a suit. They (he and the dog) will be doing some work prior to a presidential speech. Exciting and scary at the same time.
Theo good luck with the parents move today.

Well I got my tire fixed this morning. I also replaced the other front tire while I was at it. Bad news is one of the electronic devices they embed in the tire rim which tells you if something is wrong with the tire pooped out. They said for about $100 if I went and got the parts to fix it they would rebuild it. Cheaper than a brand new one. I guess now I know why the sensor light has been on for awhile . But in my defense, the sensor light for my tires has always been wonky. And it came on and stayed on right after I replaced a tire, so I figured something hadn't been reset. I can't remember now if the tire that blew was the one that was replaced last year, or if it was the other front tire. Good thing I have a vehicle fund . Sharon, that is kind of scary what your nephew will be doing now. My DS is in the Marines and is going to be a Combat specialist - the ones that blow things up. I just envision missing fingers, but try not to dwell on it. Holly - no baby yet? Molly - that weather sounds rough. It's been extremely humid here today but that is because of the rain from the hurricane. I just came out on my back patio to enjoy the evening and play on the computer, but I think I'm getting just a little too chilly. Theo - how did the move go? Hope all is well! I took Mason for a walk this evening, and pretty sure I saw some drugs getting exchanged over at the lake. Not too often you see young 20 something guys rolling baggies up. I kept on a walking as fast as I could. Then there were a lot of folks out walking big dogs. And most of them were women walking them. I was out raking a few weeks ago and Mason was tied out on his chain and a couple walked by with a big dog. She was holding his leash and he lunged for Mason up on the driveway and the guy had to grab the leash because ther was no way the lady was going to stop the dog. He apologized, but it does make me nervous. Then I heard a couple of them barking at each other, so we scooted a little faster. Interesting walk needless to say. A little perturbed about the lake incident because our neighborhood is generally pretty safe.

No baby yet. I keep waiting for the phone to ring. I had to update my auto toll road thingee yesterday. First question I asked was if I could use it IMMEDIATLY even though the info takes 2 business days to transfer since DD2 is 82 mi rt w/4 tolls that are $1.90 w/the thingee and $3.80 if cash.
It has been quite cool here. 8-10 degrees below avg. Actually, even too cool to go out & BBQ. I KNOW this will catch up w/us and we'll get hit w/a BUNCH of really hot days before summer is over.
theoitherme Hope you are resting up from babysitting on Sat.

Mom and dad are in their new home--I think all of us are exhausted, both emotionally and physically. It was a long day with the kids. Gniece got hungry and tired just before lunch, so I fed them and then we had quiet time. Even made them turn the tv off. I knew she wouldn't last 5 minutes. I was right and she was asleep. Then Gnephew could play his video games without her pestering him. That was the only argument they had. Problem with keeping them at DS's house is I don't know where things are. I know where to get things at niece's house. Between two kids and three dogs, I was jumping up and down all day on Saturday. Gniece had the poor cat so freaked out from chasing her that she took cover under a bed behind all kinds of stuff stored under the bed and we never saw her. Dad was quite upset with me last night because I had left the cable tv channel line-up at my house and he didn't know what stations he wanted to watch. Poor dad. Took it over today and he was thrilled. Didn't go over until lunch time today as we all needed to rest and get some down time. We all went to lunch and then started unpacking all the dishes and mom's pretties, as she calls them. They were all covered in smoke, so we washed some in dishwasher and some by hand. Dish water was yellow and stuff looked much better after we washed it. Place smells like smoke. DS took a bunch of clothes home to wash to get smell out of those. Mom and dad handled their first repair request this morning on their own. Was quite proud of them for that. Mom paid Dnephew who had put the Uhaul on his CC, so that is paid for. Mom can walk to the apartment from a car. We did use the wheelchair to take her and dad on a tour of the facility. She liked the quiet upstairs independent living area. Then we went downstairs to the assisted living area. There is a lot more activity there. She did fine when we showed her the beauty shop, but said she'd be afraid to go there alone. Then we went down to the library and office area. There were several people there. They eat together so they socialize more. Mom started to panic when she saw all the people. I had to show dad the box where the rent checks go because that will be his task. Mom does not like it that they have to sign out when they leave. She still doesn't understand that the facility has a lot of responsibility for their well being. Dad keeps commenting on how huge the bathroom and bedroom are. We did run across their high school diplomas today, which was pretty cool.

theother me Sounds like your folks are settling in.
Cutting up fresh pineapple is rough on knives. I just sharpened my on 6/1 but have cut up 2 pineapples since. Now, the knives I used for that need to be sharpened again. I have a drawer full of knives that were my late FIL’s (he was a deli mgr) that I almost never use. Think I will kill them on pineapples.
Got lucky w/the weather on Sun. Forecast on Sat was for rain but that held off until late eve (rained until about 5 am) and I was able to mesquite smoke all the thigh quarters. YUM!!! Did the pork on the stove top. As I suspected the recipe needs a BUNCH of tweeking for me (add sliced onion, more bell pepper and MUCH more garlic, less salt-which I had already done).
Today I get to clean up the kitchen including putting away all the bowls, pots & pans I hand washed over the last 2 weeks of cooking. Also need to pkg up & freeze the chicken & pork I will not be eating in the next few days. Also, there is the usual Mon chore of trash & recycle to go out.

I babysat mom today while DS took Dad to cardiologist. Parents thought he needed a pacemaker this much. His is about half used up and doc said it has 2 to 2 1/2 years to go before replacing. Good news there. DS said Dad had problems answering some of the questions. Said he had 3 daughters, which biologically he does. However, he never has said anything other than 2 daughters. Didn't know how many grandchildren he had. Mom says he is very forgetful. Mom keeps talking about selling the car. Dad told DS that the two of them had not discussed it and he isn't ready to get rid of the car. Mom was having a rough day today so we didn't do anything on our to do list. She was exhausted, totally exhausted. She had just fallen asleep when the maintenance man came. He took care of everything, but his timing wasn't good. Have to make more phone calls for them tomorrow. I do not want to spend the entire day there tomorrow. I need time to do things around my place. Mom is a little upset that she has to go to the bank so they can open a joint bank account. She told the maintenance man that she stays in all the time. I hope with time, she will change her mind. Dad had taken a lap in the hallway and taken the trash to it's place today. He's been out exploring and I'm glad he's doing that. Hopefully he will decide he can venture outside the building.

Theo it will take your parents time but I bet they will adjust to the new apartment just fine. Right now they are tired and trying to figure out what is their new reality.
I have 12 hour days all week, with no overtime pay. One day down, four to go. I am tired.

Sharon, I'm sorry about that work schedule!
Holly, good plan about the pineapple and knives!
Theo, I am encouraged that your dad was exploring!
I got some around-the-house stuff done today, and remembered to get the trash can out front for our regular Tuesday trash pickup. I also did some watering, refilled the bird bath, and filled bird feeders. In lieu of a standard grocery run, I made a quick (and expensive!) Whole Foods run. I picked up some pineapple, some pizza, some salami and some celery, cucumbers and artichokes. (Yes, a rather weird collection of items, I admit!)
Dinner tonight was a chicken salad I made with some leftover chicken ... I mixed it with artichoke hearts, celery and pineapple (and Miracle Whip Light). That may sound gross ... but it was great!
We made reservations for Carmel for late September ... 3 nights/4 days!

All is well here. I'll be taking a trip to NY later this month to meet my new baby girl. Marley will stay with DD3. My SIL loves to walk dogs so she should be a happy pup. My neighbor visited yesterday. When she left I was thanking God that my life is so calm and serene. I used swags to get an enameled dutch oven Friday. I've wanted one for 3 years, but won't pay 100.00 for one. So it was on sale for 45.00 and I had 30 swags. No shipping or tax. 15.00 bought me a small dream. It's a good thing. We had RAIN and WIND last night. And I mean rain. The wind was battering the house, but no leaks or pooling outside. No flooding, either. Another good thing. I dragged my tomatoes in the garage so they wouldn't get damaged. I have so many flowers on the plants, that it's getting exciting. I pray nothing happens to the fruits. I was up early this morning so the downstairs floors are vacuumed and the garage is cleaned. Laundry is being done as we speak. I will need to clean the window sills because I'm sure the rain and wind deposited some dirt in the little sills under the windows. I have to keep up on those things or I'll end up with mold because it can get rather humid here. Stay safe. Hope your lives are blessed this day.

I am back from my whirlwind trip seeing DS graduate. Bonus - he was awarded a meritorious mast - which means he was in the top 5% of his class . He just amazes me sometimes. He did a really good job as a guide (leader) for two and a half weeks. They had to "fire" him because they had to give others a chance. He's a Lance Corporal, which is a little higher than most all of the Marines there. He's not used to them looking up to him rank wise, because that's a pretty common rank where he's stationed. Apparently, he ripped a guy a new hiney one time because the boy had his cover on backwards and was acting stupid. He let him have it about the Marines that had gone before him and paid the ultimate sacrifice and this was very disrespectful to them, etc. etc. Apparently you could hear a pin drop. One of his Sgt's was behind him and heard the whole thing, and he congratulated DS later for it. he did a good job with all of it, and I'm very proud . I woke up this morning with a painful Eustachian tube area. I'm always a half step away from a sinus infection so I guess it's about time for it to come to a head. I've taken some medicine, and just had some chicken bouillon with brown rice to see if the salt will help. I usually try to stay away from a lot of salt, but sometimes it helps. Or maybe just psychological, but hey, if it helps, it works for me! Theo - so glad your folks have moved. My grandparents moved into a place like that in their later years, and it was a God send getting them near people. I really think your mom will get used to it. I think your father will in no time. Great news on the pacemaker. Holly, fingers crossed but glad baby is taking a little more time to cook. DD used to tell people that she was getting a new brother, but not yet, he isn't done yet . Molly, I REALLY don't know how you put up with the heat. I was baking these last few days outside, and it's only been mid 80's. Very humid. I put several hair products in my hair that I don't usually bother with, but after all the heat and humidity and then the rain yesterday, I looked like a poodle that was manhandled by someone with children's scissors. Sigh. Lynn, I heard we had some pretty bad weather yesterday. Hope all your plants stood up to the rain. I'm too tired to look out at mine. I figure I can't do anything about them, so they can wait. Night all. I'm going to finish The Voice, then head to bed.

DS took parents to bank today to open bank accounts. Unfortunately, that took mom out of her comfort zone before it all got done. Part of it was there were computer issues at the bank's end and everybody was at some kind of training. Banker is coming to see them tomorrow.
I decided to take Holly's advice and take a day to myself. I don't want them to think I will be there every day because I can't do that. I did talk to mom and she seemed fine that I didn't come today, but DS was ticked. I do need to go tomorrow to do some more paperwork things on getting pensions going to new bank account and I need them to give me permission to talk to them. Bank took care of SS.
I'm supposed to take dad to grocery store and fill up his car. His gas gauge is stuck on full and there is no way it is full after driving it for 3 hours to get here and then to his doctor's appointment.
Mom hasn't figured out that it is long distance to call us on our cell phones and that is why I got them unlimited long distance.
I am not telling them, but realtor thinks the closing will be delayed a week until June 21. They only paid their homeowner's insurance through the 20th and the lawn should really be mowed again. Realtor said he isn't telling them until Thursday so they don't worry needlessly. It will close, just bogged down in paperwork.
Mom said today's Meals on Wheels tasted fabulous. I think she didn't like yesterday's because she was so exhausted.
Thank you for the advice, Holly, on not making them totally expecting me every day. My DS may do it her way, but I've always done things my way and I'm going to continue to do so.

No new grandkid yet. Molly Can you really plan 3ish months in advance (Carmel trip) w/your DH's constant schedule changes? I am crossing my fingers and hoping so! We can cancel if we have to, I suppose. But this will be our first vacation together since 2 days at the coast in 2011 March ... so I'm hoping, I'm hoping. I really really really have been wanting to get away to the coast with him. He has a bunch of leave that he HAS to take before the end of the fiscal year (Sep 30), so I am being cautiously optimistic. Got my hair cut today and feel a lot less scruffy. Caught a neighbor stealing my tomatoes today and turned the sprinklers on him. He thought I was being rude. I yelled at him that NICE neighbors ring the doorbell and ask for tomatoes, they don't STEAL THEM LIKE CRIMINALS! (This guy lives around the corner). Sheesh. He's lucky I didn't chase him off with a rake!

MOTHER: I'm so happy for you. All the work you put into raising your son is now coming to fruition. He will make an upstanding Marine.
THEO: Details, details, details. They will get accomplished, one at a time. I'm proud of you that you have been so involved in making their lives comfortable. Stick to your guns and visit as you see fit. I know you will. They will get use to the schedule you set up and look forward to your visits.
MOLLY: A prayer just went up for your vacation time with 'wonderful DH'. You're good to go.
MARV: Lots of prayers going up for your DD and new baby.
The storm, I found out, was fueled by a funnel cloud 2 blocks away. There was no touch down, but that's why the wind was so nasty for a few minutes. There were 5 or 6 sightings during it of funnel clouds, none of which touched down.
Going to Costco with a friend today. The yard is suppose to be completed today. We'll see.
Stay safe.

Molly Actually your neighbor is VERY lucky you did NOT have/use a shot gun/pellet gun. Dose he know yr DH is military & you probably have weapons of some sort in the house?
DD2 is still on track for her re-scheduled c-sectio as far as I know (called noon yesterday).

Evening all! Not much to report today. I met up with some of the folks I used to work with that have all moved on to other places. Had Mexican and now I have major indigestion . Went for a walk with the pup. I guess I'll be heading up to bed to read for a while. Took some Tums so hopefully that will help. We have some major weather coming our way tomorrow. Hopefully they are way off track with the predictions. Fingers crossed!
