We're cheap. $5 for the first tooth and a $1 for every one after. My son didn't do the tooth fairy. DD tried to explain it to him and tell him he could get money thinking he would be thrilled. The whole idea that someone was going to come into his room, while he was asleep, and take something from under his pillow creeped him out! He wanted no part of it. When he lost a tooth he would just bring it to me to throw out.

Not sure what we're going to do about the tooth fairy. I was thinking about maybe $1. Owen doesn't have a good concept of what's a lot of money yet.
We spent this morning with his BCBA and then an IEP meeting. Long morning, and my desk at work is going crazy because of this time of year. Blah.
BTW - am I the only one with relatives that try and pull the "oh look, Santa stopped and left something for you at our house" crap? I don't mind if they want to buy him a present, but it irks me to no end that Santa would stop and leave him presents at 3 different houses. Santa knows where he lives.

Am I being a hardass? Keira came home with a present from her teacher in her backpack today. I stuck it under the tree and said "wait til Christmas" and she cried. Said the teacher said to ask their parents if they could open it first. She also said everyone will open theirs tonight and cried some more. Then asked if she could open it in the morning.

I'm sorry your morning was so long. I hope things get better. It's hell at work here too. Which is why I'm back at work tonight.

My FIL's procedure went well today. They said they'll know next week but the doctor was positive it was cancer. And that he got it all. It was a smaller mass than thought. The doctor is going to want to see FIL in 3 months but doesn't think chemo or any kind of treatment is necessary.

I have had my kids come home with a present when they were in K or 1st grade where the teacher said that. It was always a book about Christmas or some holiday book/craft type thing. The teachers wanted them to be excited to open it so they would want to read it. They also did it so the children had something to do about Christmas that didn't include wondering what toy from a commercial they wanted. Personally I let them open them if that was what the teacher wanted. I never had any relatives give them presents from Santa though. That would have annoyed me also.

Oh look, Santa stopped at Grandma and Grandpa #1's house, oh he stopped at Grandma and Grandpa #2's house, and Great-Grandma and Great-Grandma's house! WTF? No Santa didn't! IDK, but I just feel that is just going to lead to him figuring out Santa isn't real faster. Oh, but nephew's parents also have Santa come a week early too so they can have Christmas at their house before coming to my IL's house. So Santa goes to like 5 different houses over a week's time! If I ever have kids, that shit ain't happening!

I let her open it this morning. I needed a bribe to get her out of bed. Worked like a charm too. And it's a book - The Night Before Christmas. We'll read it tonight as one of the bedtime stories.

Yeah. Only I can lie to my kids damn it! Damn right Arch! Last year, SIL tried to say that Santa dropped off a present at our house and we just brought it up to nephew. I said, uh no, we bought him that present, it's from us, not Santa.

Does Santa sign presents? We put labels on gifts and fill in the to and from. So the stuff from Mom and Dad, G&G, etc. is clearly labeled. Admittedly my kids can't read yet.

At my house, my mom always put awesome things on the labels (still does, even though I'm 27 and my brother is 30). Santa/Kris Kringle/St. Nick, Mrs. Claus, The Elves, Rudolph, Frosty, Jack Frost, etc. The most fun we had as kids were finding the presents that she would give to my dad. Instead of from "Mom" to "Dad" - she puts crazy things like "To My Honey Pot" "From Your Sugar Pie" or "To My Harley Husband" "From Your Motorcycle Mama."

That's really cute. I may steal that idea. ;D We do leave beer and cookies instead of milk and cookies for Santa. And carrots for the reindeer.

CABE OPENED HIS BEDROOM DOOR!!!! And DH was in the shower when he did. DH told him to go in the living room (he was almost done) and then DH heard a weird noise. Cabe must have pulled a chair over to the counter in the kitchen and was eating the pretzel roof off of Keira's milk carton gingerbread house thing. [image]
We've been working with him on opening his door. It's hard to potty train at night when he can't get out of his room before he pees/poops in his pullup.

I remember when Olivia started opening her bedroom door! I just though Aw crap! Now the fun really begins. And it has. 3 times this week she has snuck into my bedroom and climbed up in bed with me.
She has started using her little elmo potty at night too. It doesn't wake her up every time she needs to go though. But every morning now I'll go in there and there will be a little present for me in her potty.

I need to remember the potty chair days when I'm plunging the toilet because DS's "present" has clogged it up again.

kgb - I saw you started giving Avery melatonin. Is it still working for her? Olivia has been a bear to get to sleep every night. I think it's due to DH being out of town still working. She takes 2+ hours to get to bed. Constantly up and down. I'm wondering if this would help her relax and fall asleep. She isn't napping well at school now either they told me yesterday so she really needs her Zzzs at night even more now. Do you buy it at the health store, or? I'd planned to talk to her doctor about her sleep issues too.

You mean I don't have the only kid who makes a baseball mitt with the TP and routinely clogs up the toilet?

I wouldn't use the word "hardass," but I'm glad you let her open it. We were always permitted to open presents given to us by friends, relatives, teachers when we received them, even if it was before Christmas. I do the same with Avery. I don't see the harm in her getting a few gifts ahead of time because there is plenty to open on Christmas Eve/Christmas Day. It would be really hard to be a little kid and see a present sitting there that you know is for you and not be able to open it for days. Heck, I'm an adult and it's hard for me.

Owen made us a present at school and brought it home yesterday. He insisted we open it instead of waiting for Christmas - it was an ornament to hang on the tree, so yes, I'm glad we did. I kind of figured that anything he made at school would be Christmas themed.
I can remember our first married Christmas my aunt sent a huge present out to us since we lived across the country from all of our family. We waited until Christmas day to open in and it was all Christmas stuff - towels, plates, napkins, ornaments - to help up with our first Christmas. Kind of wish we had opened it early!

I must be mean. I wrapped all the presents a few weeks ago and put them under the tree. Thruthfully it was really to get my closet back but I do like the way the tree looks with the presents under it.Other than the occaisional present from a teacher no one has wanted to open one of them early yet. Is is bad form as a mom when your kids ask what you want for Christmas to say booze? I really don't need anything and that is the only thing I want.

You're not mean. But aren't your kids a little older? I would expect an older child to be able to see presents and wait, but not a little kid.
After my youngest brother learned about Santa Claus, we still wouldn't let my mom put our presents under the tree. Even though we knew the truth, we still liked going to bed with an empty tree and waking up to presents the next morning. That went on until I was in college.

Even though we knew the truth, we still liked going to bed with an empty tree and waking up to presents the next morning. That went on until I was in college. My Dd is 17 and DS is 9. DS still insists he believes in Santa. I have always wrapped the presents from us and stuck them under the tree which is exactly what was done when I was a kid. The "Santa" presents always came on Christmas Eve after everyone went to bed but were put in the stockings. They still get to come out and see their stockings filled with presents and candy that wasn't there before they went to bed. The presents under the tree though are normally there from early Dec. My son goes to the tree first thing when he comes home and checks to see if any new ones were added. He can tell instantly if I wrapped another and put it under while he was at school. It must just be that they have always seen presents under the tree for weeks before Christmas. A few times Santa has brought presents for the kids stocking that was completely banned from the house by me. My banned list included play dough. DD was about 7 at the time and was shocked that she got things from Santa that I hated. ;D

That's ok. I think I was about 10 when I knew for sure. I suspected the year before. I think it's fine for kids to believe for as long as they want (within reason. I mean, you don't want a 15-year-old thinking there's Santa). It's fun.
That's cute. Stickers are on my banned list. Santa will NOT be leaving any of those.

I know this is late - but did you guys do anything for teacher presents? With DH unemployed, I didn't even want to go there, but I am thinking of picking up a $15 iTunes card for Owen's therapist who works with him 4 days a week. But I didn't know if I'm cheap for not sending in a present for his teacher. Today was the last day before break so it's definitely not happening here.

We did nothing. DH was supposed to pick up gift cards on Thursday and forgot. And 2 of Cabe's teachers are leaving today, before we get Cabe. I'm thinking we'll get a Target gc in spring and give it to the director, to use as she needs. Keira's home sick today and we didn't get anything for her teacher either. I'm thinking a Groundhog's Day gift....
