For the third year in a row, my wonderful DH will be deployed for Thanksgiving. I will head over to a friend's house for some turkey because I can't think of a socially-acceptable reason to get out of it. Her father will spend 3 hours lecturing the rest of us on how things "used to be." (Can you tell this is my 3rd year in a row of this?) Please give him my heartfelt thanks for his service. I sure hope he's home soon and for good.

Giggle, every time someone tells me about a tasting menu, it turns out they're going to Braise. I'm off to check out kil@wat. ;D

Thursday - going to DH's grandma's for their family thing, going to my dad's/stepmom's for their family thing, going to my mom's to visit.
Saturday - hosting my mom's side of the family at our house.
It may be because my mom and sister don't trust me to boil water (and therefore do all the cooking) but I LOVE hosting. All I have to do is clean the house and stick the turkey in the fridge to thaw... and DH and I get enough leftovers to feed us for a week. ;D

We will only be 6 this year so going out to eat. We are all on diets so a buffet where we can each be picky eaters and no leftovers.
My niece doesn't have a DH and children this year, they are divorcing and he got the holiday with the kids. They are the only children in the family so not much holiday spirit without them. So just mom, brother, SIL, niece and nephew and me. My ISO won't go and nephew's wife won't go so they can stay home alone hungry.

I will be on an airplane flying to Colorado! Fares on the actual holiday are great. I will be celebrating all weekend and returning on Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

Could you go volunteer at a community dinner? Not with my health issues at the moment. You could come to my house and laugh at my DH and BILs. Actually, I try to run and hide when the 3 of them get together. They usually try to find something they can burn down. While I like my MIL, spending quality time with her isn't at the top of my to do list.

Going to my parents, but since my mom works until 6 I will be the slave in the kitchen. But I made up 90% of the menu and like to cook so I'm ok with that. Especially since she bought me a bottle of wine. ;D Though my brother (almost 30) is bring his barely 21 year old gf he's been with for a few weeks (known maybe 2 months) to dinner just shy of 3 months after his divorce and he's already talking marriage with her. It'll be interesting given my said bottle of free wine since I think both of them are nucking futs and wine lowers the filter between my brain and mouth. Oh well, we're not that close anyways - what's the worse that can happen?

We are not driving the 10 hours to in laws this year. They just visited us last week. My 2 grown kids are coming home (even though we offered to fly them to the grandparents). We will be 4 for dinner. But everyone wants something different from the traditional menus, so we will probably have enough food for 10

I'm bringing the relish tray. Unless I have a baby first. At this point I'd really like to have a baby first.
Oh, and Drama--totally start drinking. Family get togethers are SO much better with wine.

Sound pretty tasty We've had a chance to sample stuff and it's really yummy. And for the last few months, I swear, every-time we turn around someone's going there and raving about it.

We're staying home again this year. With DH's diet, it's just easier. And I'm not up to hosting. The only thing I'm serving that DH really should be having is the turkey, but I figure that since he's so good at sticking to what he should eat the rest of the year I'd give him a pass on T-day. He's gluten free and dairy free. And our kids are 3 and 4.5. Maybe next year we'll go back to hosting. We'll see.

Dammit all. I was doing just fine with my dinner reservations, and then you all had to go on with your leftover talk. Now I'm going to end up cooking a mini thanksgiving dinner just so I can have some stuffing. Grrr. Oh well ;D There's recipes and suggestions on the Anything new for Thanksgiving thread.

Going to my parents (across town) for the "meal". There will be 19 or 20 of us. My mom does the whole spread. Turkey, potatoes, stuffing, green bean casserole, etc. My hippie brother will bring something strange and harass people into trying it. His food is just plain weird but they are vegetarians so we have to make a "tofurkey loaf" for them to eat. Let's see. Bro #1 will cry foul if anyone has any alcohol to drink even though no one in the family has ever been drunk or would ever drink and drive. Bro #2- will make some elaborate "meat" since he hates turkey and use up valuable oven space for whatever it is he makes but that no one else is allowed to eat. My grandma is quickly losing her memory so I expect her to call me by my aunts name the entire weekend. Bro #2 will harass my mom and aunts about Black Friday shopping- he'll only want to come with if Mom will buy his things for him. My DH and DS who do not do well in chaos will hide out in the basement family room watching the parade. Bro #2's kids will be complete brats. I fully expect the 5 year old to call someone a "Stupid Bitch" because that's her go to insult and for her 3 year old brother to throw a full fledged on the floor kicking and screaming temper tantrum. Bro #1 will complain about people just sitting around and get the kids all hyped up about going out to go bowling and to play laser tag. He will then get distracted and forget to bring the kids to the bowling alley and they will all be mad and pout. I will sit in the corner and try my best to keep my damn mouth shut because Bro #2 is a whiney- assed leech who's kids are total brats but if you say anything about his behavior my mom starts to cry. As soon as I can politely sneak out DH, DS and I will go to the movies.

We go to my grandmothers on Thursday at one. Will spend two hours staring at each other in the living room while my grandmother yells at my grandfather for not doing something right in the kitchen. I should really start drinking before I go to family holiday events, it would make things a lot more entertaining. This about describes Tgiving dinner at MILs, by replacing GM with MIL and GF with DH. Fortunately, I begged out years ago so I don't to put up with any of MIL crap. Before I did though, booze was the way to go. Too bad it usually resulted in a migraine the next day.

My superstar direct report invited us over for Thanksgiving. Some in the office may see it as a suck up, but she invited me before the reorg. I'm getting pretty suspicious....especially in regards to what you said about your wife..... Where is this heading? A continued great friendship.. We hang out as couples every other weekend.

A co worker took pity on me so I'm going to eat at his house. Other than that, sit around the house and play video games.

So after Thanksgiving, what do you do? DD and DS will be home for the weekend. Trying to plan something they both like. Maybe the new Bond movie? Maybe some Christmas shopping. They have really different tastes. I don't think there's enough snow to ski yet.

Shelicali wins. Hands down! We will spend the morning at a football game and then come home to cook entirely too much food for four people. But if anyone I lied to, and told we wouldn't be home on Thanksgiving, actually does show up we will be hiding in the bathroom hoping they don't smell the cooking turkey from the outside, and go away. That is my plan so far. I am pretty sure booze will be added to it at some point.

Gee Thanks everyone not sure I wanted to "win". DH and DS are used to the peace and quiet at our house so they get overwhelmed with all the noise and chaos. We pretty much always sneak out and go to the movies. It's our "Thing". Last year we snuck out as soon as we could at Christmas and hit up our favorite Sushi Restaurant. They were playing Christmas Story on a big projector. Nothing says normal, quiet Christmas like hiding out from your extended family like sushi and Christmas Story

I work 3:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Thanksgiving Day. A daylight shift Friday, and then another afternoon shift Saturday, so I don't have much of a holiday. I do have Wednesday off.
My DH has to work a 13-hour day Wednesday, so the kids are I are going to spend the night at my parents' house Wednesday, and DH will come up Thursday morning. My mom is having an early dinner for us. Then I'll go to work, and DH will take the kids and go to his parents' house. I'll probably pop in to see his family on my dinner break.

This will be the second year in a row for a thanksgiving getaway. Last year we traveled on thanksgiving day for a week in the Caribbean, and it was fantastic and low-stress. This year we're going to Machu Picchu and hiking for a few days. I don't like turkey and we've seen all the family several times this year, so it works out well and makes Christmas with DH's family seem more manageable. I don't really like turkey anyway

I have to work on Friday and Sunday, only for a few hours. It's overtime so Yay. But it's going in twice so boo. Hiss.
DD is not spending the night at my sister's after all.

We're staying home. The menu may change depending on whether or not we have power back. I can use the cooktop of the gas stove, but not the oven without electricity. I am hoping they turn it on today. We had the electrician in over the weekend, and all of the outlets, switches, and circuits, etc. on the lower level of the house have been replaced and LIPA has been notified that we are good to go. They are supposed to hook you back in within 24-48 hours after approval.
We are all pretty much exhausted, and have gotten used to low-key living these last few weeks. We can get a few channels with the antenna and the generator, so watching football is still in the plan.
I am going to look over the newspaper and see if there is a good washer/dryer sale, although I will be staying home on Black Friday waiting for my 'between 8am-5pm' FiOS appointment. I want the Sears deal, but they only guarantee 5 per store.

Mom gets "custody" of DF and I this year. Funny story, Mom called me this afternoon to tell me that we are still on for Thursday. Huh? Apparently she had to borrow money from my BIL to buy a turkey because she doesn't get paid until Friday. Otherwise, she was going to cook dinner on Sunday (there is no way in hell I was driving up there Sunday). Thanksgiving is not a surprise!
I'm hoping to skip all family next year and do a friends holiday instead.
