I'm going to my Mom's, and I'm going to bring potato chips - just to piss her off.

I cooked our turkey early this year. We hosted 12 of my teenage son's friends for a Thanksgiving feast over the weekend. It was a blast -- what a great group of kids.
So, we will spend a very quiet T-giving with just the four of us -- still voting as to whether it will be ham or a nice roast. My 7 year old daughter doesn't care as long as I serve dinner rolls (she's very easy to please!)

Lots of driving. Staying at inlaws Wednesday evening and having Thanksgiving lunch there. Driving to my parents later on for Thanksgiving dinner. Then we're either driving home that night or sticking around and doing some shopping and/or movie going on Black Friday.

my immediate family is doing brunch at my house. sis and BIL will head out to go to his parents' house for a big family feast. my parents are welcome to hang out if they like, or they can head out. I'm going to enjoy a quiet day my fam is doing up the turkey feast on Sunday, at my house. I'll still get leftovers that way. ;D

Staying at home and eating something from the freezer. We've all been sick and aren't up to hosting, dealing with primadonna inlaws, or hauling 3 kids under 6 anywhere.

Just the DH and I - my family is coming over next month. Doing a four-mile race first, then do some volunteering with the church sponsoring the race (it's a benefit event for their food pantry, so I figure I'll hang around and at least help them bring the donations inside). Still planning a nice dinner for just us. I love leftovers.

We're hosting and I will be cooking for 20. We had the same crowd last year and ended up with hardly any leftovers so I am cooking a 2nd bird on Wednesday night just to make sure we have some this year!

going to DH's aunt and uncle's. DS just decided that he's done with baby food so I can't wait to see his eyes nearly pop out of his head trying to decide what to eat. ;D I'll be watching him though.

We go to my grandmothers on Thursday at one. Will spend two hours staring at each other in the living room while my grandmother yells at my grandfather for not doing something right in the kitchen.
Then we're going to my ILs on Friday where my MIL will chase Gwen all over trying to make her sit in the high chair and eat while DH hollers at her to leave the kid alone.
I should really start drinking before I go to family holiday events, it would make things a lot more entertaining.

I'm cooking for about 9000. Anybody else have no place to go? Just call my mom. She'll invite you.

I want to spend part of the day with Drama and part of it with GEL. They both sound like adventures.

You are very welcome, Nancy. Just bring your appetite. If you are a vegetarian, I'm prepared. My mother informed me that a couple people who are coming do not eat meat. That made for a menu change so they would have something else to eat besides pickles and olives.

Only if you volunteer to be the one to go look in grandma's kitchen to see what the hysteria is all about. We usually make my brother do it.

I should warn you. I plan to drink wine off and on during the cooking process. Last year, my very sticky ham glaze ended up on the kitchen cabinets.

I'm hosting. Usually T-day is my favorite holiday, but BIL/SIL are on the verge of divorce (but still living together) and are coming for dinner so it is going to be awkward. Now I'm just hoping everyone can relax and enjoy themselves.

My in-laws are coming over - all 3 of them, 2 BILs and MIL. We are providing Turkey, Potato Casserole, Frozen Fruit Salad, Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie, and cheese spread and crackers. Anything not on that list that my in-laws want, they can bring themselves. Everything is already in the freezer - well the Turkey is already in the fridge to defrost. My BILs are going to help DH move the last of the junk that needs to be moved out of the baby's room - a sewing machine, electric piano and big antique cabinet that I would love to keep in there except that it was last finished with lead based paint that is now pealing.

Last year, my very sticky ham glaze ended up on the kitchen cabinets. who attempts to cook without drinking wine? my sis and I have decided that neither one of us will touch the turkey for prep/brine the night before without at least a full bottle of wine gone between the two of us.

Here is my turkey receipe for those who have difficulty timing the turkey:
I have a great turkey recipe that includes using popcorn. It's for those of us who have trouble knowing when the turkey is just done enough without drying out. I thought I'd share:
8-15 pound turkey 1 cup melted butter 1 cup stuffing (Pepperidge Farm works best) 1 cup popcorn (Orvile Redenbacher Low Fat is best choice) Salt Pepper
Brush melted butter liberally on turkey. Salt and pepper to taste. Put stuffing and popcorn in cavity. Bake at 350. Make sure the back of the turkey is facing toward the oven door.
After about 4 hours, you will hear popping sounds. When the turkey's butt blows open your oven door and the turkey flies across the room, it is done just right.
You're welcome.

Dinner at a restaurant on Tday with just me an Mr Sroo. They do a wonderful 6 course tasting menu with wine pairings. Then our neighbors invited us over on Saturday for a full Thanksgiving meal. Braise?

Me, usually. I'm not much of a drinker, nor am I that good at it. Obviously. I'm liable to hurt myself.

We're staying home again this year. With DH's diet, it's just easier. And I'm not up to hosting.

For the third year in a row, my wonderful DH will be deployed for Thanksgiving.
I will head over to a friend's house for some turkey because I can't think of a socially-acceptable reason to get out of it. Her father will spend 3 hours lecturing the rest of us on how things "used to be." (Can you tell this is my 3rd year in a row of this?)

My superstar direct report invited us over for Thanksgiving. Some in the office may see it as a suck up, but she invited me before the reorg.

Not sure. MIL is very sick. If she ends up in the hospital, then we will have to come up with some other plan. Trying to decide if I should run to the store and get stuff or not.

Are earplugs or an iPod considered socially acceptable at the dinner table?
If you start singing 99 Bottle of Beer on The Wall, will anyone else sing with you?
If you just hum really loud, will that throw off the old guy?
;D
