I have terrible taste in wine. I like the alcoholic Koolaid varieites. Had to switch my brand of wine because whenever I served it, folks would say 'This takes me back to high school'. Currently blueberry wine, blackberry wine and margaritas are my drink of choice. You're a Boone's aficionado, eh?

DH likes the cheap fruity wines because he can't stand the taste of alcohol... watered-down and Koolaid-y is the only way he'll ever drink. He catches some grief for it, too

So, let's take a informal survey/testimony on your drinking habits (or lack there of). Do you drink alcohol? If so how often and what types and in what situations. And in the interest of keeping this kina money related, how much do you spend on your drinks? If you do not, why do you not consume alcoholic beverages? And of course general thoughts on adult beverages. Yes Occasionally - a few times a month - sometimes out at a bar (rarely) and mostly at my house or over at friends' house Types: Mostly beer (St. Arnold's, Guiness, Shiner, Peroni, and then the occasional margarita - I like tequila) The beers range in the $8 - $15 for a 6 pack of bottles and the margaritas are usually a little more costly since I like good tequila

1 more hour to go here on the west coast. In laws are visiting, so 1st gin and tonic (FILs favorite) and then DH wants to open a very nice red with our home made beef veggie soup. I have a really nice Willamette Valley Syrah or a Rogue Valley Cabernet or a old vine Zin from around Sonora Calif. Decision, decisions I think I'll clock out early.

yum, lynn. I've given up on troubleshooting for the night. I went out to pick up some pizza, and I opened a very nice Montepulciano. I will be spending the night in, as I will need enough to drink to make me sociable tonight that I won't be in any condition to drive anywhere.

And of course general thoughts on adult beverages. I have a few beers a year. My Bohemian grandfather used to give me small glasses of it when I was a little kid. Other than beer, I have never cared for the taste of most alcohol. In general, I wish I liked wine so I could have a glass of something other than soda when out to dinner.

I occasionally drink alcoholic beverages....Kahluah & cream or Mudslides. I'll drink a glass of wine at my sister's for T.G. or Christmas. I like champagne at weddings. ( I almost wrote weedings, which would make me look like I'm lying about not drinking very much..... ). I am a cautious drinker because I get drunk very, very easily. My system is extremely efficient at metabolizing alcohol, evidently. People have sometimes seen me drunk after 1/2 of a strong drink and they think I'm faking it, but in the meantime, I'll be staggering around, singing my ass off, laughing uproariously, and eventually falling asleep in a corner someplace. I can drink a glass and a half of wine, or a Kahlua & cream without the side effects, but that's about all. I don't spend too much on liquor for obvious reasons. DH loves Kahlua too. We're compatible drinkers. Very moderate. I like adult beverages, but hate to be around chronic alcohol abusers. Fun is fun. Too much, not so fun....

Great job on starting your disaster preparedness! My friends were saying the same thing to me this past week "if you lose power you can stay warm for a few months with all the alcohol you have in the house!" I can't say I'm as prepared food wise...priorities... Okay, losing power for a week, with a wrecked-up house due to a hurricane, no food, no heat, and another nor-easter coming in qualifies for an expanded drinking schedule, even for me ! Besides, you can always trade drinkies for flashlights, blankets and other survival supplies. Could be a fifth of good whiskey or vodka could become as valuable as a pair of World Series tickets to the right person !

Thunderbird wine ( cheap cheap ) makes a good baste for baked ham. I know this from college experience. Yummy ham. I have no idea why.

We just got back from Italy, and have found our wine intake has increased substantially. I try to restrict to only one glass with dinner.
We discovered scotch a few years ago and occasionally have one in the evening. My husband more often, me maybe once a month. Preferred at the moment is Aberlour A'Bunnadh. But depending on mood, a good Laphroagh.
I also have a friend who makes a mean Manhattan and gin and tonic in the summer.

I'm an occasional drinker. I come from a long line of alcoholics and just don't like getting that much out of control or the money it costs.
I prefer vodka/tonic with either Skyy or Grey Goose vodka when we go out. I will have one or two drinks when we go out or maybe a glass of wine with dinner if at a nicer restaurant, but that's pretty much it.

Do you drink alcohol? Yes
If so how often and what types and in what situations? Beer or a cocktail at home probably 4-5 nights a week. If I'm buying the beer, it's the good stuff - Belgians (Ommegang, Trappiste stuff, domestic Belgian-style), interesting microbrews (Magic Hat, Red Hook, Goose Island, New Belgium), local nicer stuff (Boulevard Brewing is 1/4 mile from my house, so a lot of their Smokestack series). For cocktails, Hendrix and tonic if the calorie budget is low that day, Pimm's and lemonade, horsefeathers, white russians if we're in the mood for it. I also like Disarrono and Johnny Walker Black on the rocks. It's mostly just A beer, or 1 shot. A couple of fancy beers if we're out at a place with a good selection. Bailey's in coffee at my parents' house if I'm there on the weekend. Fact - all beer tastes better along a bike trail. I also sometimes pair interesting beer with food. I'm serving Duchesse De Bourgogne and Goose Island Sofie with Thanksgiving instead of red/white wine. I think the Duchesse is like the perfect savory food complement, and the Sofie will be awesome with the raw beet/granny smith apple salad.
How much do you spend on your drinks? 6 packs $9-12, bigger bottles $8-15. I'm brand particular on hard liquor, so I just pay whatever for Hendrix, Johnny Walker, Kettle One, Jack Daniels, etc. cost. Larger bottles are cheaper per oz mostly. It comes out of the grocery budget, so I don't worry too much. Plus, people hang out at my house, bring beer in exchange for being fed, and leave it, so there's always something interesting in the beer fridge. I suppose it says something about me that I'm 31 years old with a dedicated beer fridge. But that's mostly because my actual fridge is full of bulky produce and prepped food. Drinks out cost alot. $6-9 beers, $12 for a good scotch (but really, what else are you going to drink with a dry aged bone in ribeye?). If I'm someplace without a limited selection, I look for $2-ish pints, and ~$3 Jack and cokes.
General thoughts on adult beverages. Don't drink and drive. Other then that, I'm a fan (obviously).
