Who has had laser hair removal? What did you have done and how much did it cost? And most importantly was it worth the money?
I have been debating on having this done for months and can't seem to make up my mind...

I did it a few years ago. I have very dark hair that grows quickly and light skin. Shaving more than once a week caused bleeding and bumps so I had no choice but to cover up so people didn't see the stubble. Shaving was a frustrating, painful, time consuming process so I decided to go for the laser.
It cost me $3000 for underarms, lower arms, lower legs, bikini, and lip. I felt like it would be money well spent as I would have the rest of my life (had it done in my late 20's) to not worry about shaving or stubble. Plus the time and supply savings over my lifetime.
My only complaint is the person at the Laser Center basically lied to me and told me I would be hair free after I think six sessions. Then you have two years to continue coming back for any stray hairs. Well, I was not even close to being hair free after six sessions. It took the full 2+ years of sessions for that. I am probably 90% hair free in the areas they treated now. I still shave, but rarely, for those hairs that didn't get removed.
Still, I think it was one of the best decisions I've made. Just know that it is supposed to work best on light skin with dark hair and don't expect 100% removal. For me, I am thrilled with ~90% less hair as it is so much more manageable for me and I don't have to deal with the pain and embarrassment anymore.

Oh and they did offer free financing for up to five years which was nice. I paid it off early anyway.

Wow - 3 grand. I've been debating it. I shave every day. It is annoying.

I can't remember how much I paid for the laser hair removal, my total bill came to $2,300 but that included a couple photo facials as well. I was told I would be pretty much hair free after 6 sessions( I also got 6 sessions for free because of some promotion they were having) as well, but I wasn't at all. I have dark hair and light skin, supposedly the best type for the procedure. I had my underarms and bikini area done. I still have to shave every day if I want to be stubble free. I don't know if it would have worked after 2+ years if I kept going. I didn't have the option. After my 6th session the place went out of business and I never got to use my free sessions.
Worst money I think I have ever spent.

Both my girlfriend and my son did it and both are very happy with it. Cost them both around 5k.

I've had it done on my face. I did get a discount at my old job (I worked at a hospital)--I think I remember that it cost ~150 a session with the discount (for my cheeks, upper/lower lip and under my chin). I have really course hair and after I had DD, my hormones went crazy (and I think they still are). A lot of people are different, I was seeing progress after 3 sessions, but after not doing it for 6 months, it started to come in darker again.
There are a lot of groupons offered in my area for this, you would have to really research. I did this after I moved and ended up at a place that got the job done, but could have done better (the room was really lit poorly, the office manager was not pleasant to work with). I bought 6 sessions for $200 for the same area using Groupon.

I have been working on it with the Tria at home system. It is working to some extent but not as fast as I would like. I have done the legs three times and the underarms maybe 6. I have some hairless patches and the hair on my legs is way down.

I've done chin/neck/lip, bikini, and lower legs. I tend to shop Groupons - paid $150 for chin/neck/lip and $500 for bikini/legs (3 sessions each part). I just got another Groupon for six sessions of legs and bikini for $450, which I figure will give me nine total sessions on those areas and I should be done.
Yes, the hair does somewhat grow back. My chin/lip/neck area has come back about 50% in the three years since I did the lasering, but I'll say the hairs are not as black. I still think it is a great deal. I'm keeping my eyes open for another Groupon so I can get another 3-session package for that area, though.
I've also done a couple of laser sessions where they get rid of sun spots. FUCKING PAINFUL. But did do an AMAZING job of eliminating 75% of my sun spots (I'm really prone to freckles/moles/sunspots). Incredible. Those were on Groupon for about $125/ea.

I wax. Even my whole face. Peach fuzz out of control. It eventually kills it.

I would like to add that I never missed a session in 2+ years (every 6-8 weeks). I think this was helped with the results I received. If you miss sessions or don't do them on the right schedule (supposedly the timing is important due to hair growth rates) it might mean less that stellar results. I made sure not to get much of a tan in those 2years, even during my honeymoon in Hawaii, as that can interfere with the laser also and they won't even use it on you until the tan goes away.
I'd try to find a place that give you a few sessions and then a few years 'maintenance' to keep going. I think the reality is it takes that long to see significant results, not the six that alot of people claim.

I'm 4 sessions into a 6 session bikini area treatment that I got on groupon for around $300 - I also tip around $20/session. So far I have had very good results, the growth has slowed way down. I wouldn't be surprised if I have to purchase a few extra treatments, but with a decent bikini wax being $75 it doesn't take long for the savings to start adding up. I love it frankly, but I do not have a lot of hair naturally and it doesn't grow that fast so I'm sure that helps...

Oh no, tipping? I never did that! I hope that's not the norm... although when I'm spending $3k I don't really think it's necessary.

I would also like to mention the pain. I found it extremely painful- the bikini being the worst. It's not like a quick rip of a wax strip, it's an hour of neverending zapping pain (I have alot of areas done at the same time). And I think I have a high pain tolerance... one technician told me about one of their clients that would have a few drinks beforehand and they'd always joke about it.
Still, for me, it was worth it!

Okay - so I'm going to ask the question here. I know the younger people are going full hairless - how skinny are you making the bikini area. I've got a full thicket, and going totally hairless to me seems like my husband would have to be into child molestation - so I'm not sure I want to do that, but I don't want to go in and demand to keep hair if everyone is going to make fun of me for being an old lady. I'll just keep shaving.

I've done Groupons as well.
It seems like every place offers discounts or Groupons or something. I would not pay full price for sure. But I couldn't tell you if the 50% off a treatment package for as many visits as it takes to get rid of your hair vs. a series of packages of 4-6 treatments is most cost effective.
I'm hoping that 2 6-treatment Groupons will suffice, but we'll see.

I'm not, so I think 1 inch of clearance inside the skimpiest pair of drawers you can imagine wearing?

Thanks - I'm glad I'm not the only one. Maybe I have a misunderstanding of what the young people think - but it just isn't something you can bring up while sitting around the campfire.

There are definitely women who go for that. One of my friends told a story of her niece catching her in a changing room and being freaked out because her mom was fully hairless and her aunt wasn't. They aren't exhibitionists or co-showerers or anything, but kids see stuff. I'd hate for an adolescent girl not to know what was happening to her because she didn't know what a grown woman's body looks like.

I did get a bikini wax once before I had the laser treatments and the technician looked at me like I was crazy when I said I just wanted a 'little off the sides', lol. She talked me into a semi-landing strip and I never felt so strange in my life... gross. Never was I so happy to have my hair grow back!

I'm in my late 50s. My girlfriends and I all go totally hairless for many reasons. I started because I worked outdoors and didn't like being hot and sweaty down there. Now I do it because I color my hair and no way am I coloring down there to match or having it be natural as that would be double ugly. I totally live the way it feels during "relations." DF loves it as well.

Haven't read any of the comments, but I love SensEpil. It's an at home laser/IPL. I had the professional done on one area in my late teens, to do the same area now the cost is more than 4x higher. I haven't had it long enough to speak to how permanent SensEpil is, but it has definitely zapped some hair and my best friend bought one for herself and also loves it. So far I've spent under $400 (you have to buy lamps every so often) and I've done anywhere from 8 to 3 treatments on 4 different areas. Considering I was quoted during a 50% off 1st area 60% off 2nd area from the place I originally went only two areas were $4000.
ETA: I'm only doing the bikini line (like someone else said, zapping everything not covered by skimpy underwear) so I'm not sure if it's OK to do the whole area with SensEpil.
Also, it was my upper lip that was done in my late teens, by my late 20s dark hair was back (though not as bad). According to the place I went hair on your face is one of the places that's greatly effected by hormones so there's no way for it to be permanent. They recommend coming back for treatments every 5 years! Definitely another thing that pushed me towards the at home. Touch ups whenever I need it for little cost.

That's why I have the face peach fuzz. Hormones. Nevertheless, I see it and I get it removed.

I guess that is something i have never thought about. But, if it is something you want done and can afford it, then you should get it done.
