From what I have read when people go on House Hunters they have already picked their house and then then show goes out and finds two others.

Whenever DH does something around the house and finds some dumb something the previous owner has done, his comment is, Wonder what Mike Holmes would have to say about this. We once took the old chair railing off in our kitchen, it was put up with 4 in. nails! DH and I have decided that if we had been on Mike Holmes' new show "Holmes Inspection" we wouldn't have bought this house!

The other thing I always laugh about is the realtor is actually showing them the house. "I want you to come back to this room and see the closet - I think you will really like it." My experience with realtors is that they hadn't ever been in the house before and we were all seeing it for the first time together.

Hey, Thyme, so many of the home buying shows are in Phoenix. I'm always asking DH if he knows the neighborhood, and he usually does. Is that how you feel watching it?

The ones I've seen that are in Phoenix are almost always recent construction - and really every neighborhood built in the past 10 or 15 years looks very similiar to me. They usually say a general area - but honestly, the houses I see them look at could be anywhere. They pop up those same floor plans in every suburb around here. I try to avoid those areas. I can't ever find my way around because it is like groundhogs day.

I loved the House Doctor, which was on PBS several years ago. He was by far the most practical "old house" renovator, and was not in the pocket of Home Depot
