not at all. my dad just called to ask if I felt it (I didn't notice anything...?) and to check out the news online for confirmation.

I can't get some of the pages at the Weston Observatory website to load -- they must be happily very busy. ;D And Lone, NO, we aren't used to them and, frankly, you can keep them.

I am at work right now in Worcester and did not feel anything, same for my wife in Clinton.

Google the seismology lab at Cal Tech. They have a huge (worldwide tracking) operation there and should post something soon (if they haven't already).

'Extremely rare' magnitude 4.6 earthquake shakes New Hampshire, region Tuesday, October 16, 2012 DOVER -- The U.S. Geological Survey reports a magnitude 4.6 earthquake occurred in southwestern Maine early Tuesday evening, rumbling residents in New Hampshire and as far away as Massachusetts and Vermont. The earthquake was recorded at 7:12 p.m., according to a posting on the USGS website. The epicenter was about 13 miles northwest of Biddeford, Maine. The earthquake was felt at least 48 miles away in Concord, N.H. Mike Kistner, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Gray, Maine, said Tuesday's earthquake occurred 17 miles underground. He said a "moderate" earthquake like Tuesday night's event only takes place in New England once every few decades. "They're extremely rare for this region, but they can happen," he said. Reports were streaming into Foster's Tuesday from residents around the Seacoast of New Hampshire and Maine. www.fosters.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20121016/GJNEWS_01/121019215/-1/fosnews

Well LOL not bragging, just jaded ;D. I lived through 6.6 in Sylmar in 1971 and 6.9 in Northridge in 1994, and baby - THOSE were earthquakes (6.9 caused $80,000 worth of damage on my then-house). Anything under 5 is just Mother Nature grumbling and complaining a little bit . . .

The last major quake in New England and Quebec was the 5.9, 1988 Saguenay earthquake in Quebec. I was living in New Haven, Connecticut at the time and the high rise I lived in swayed back and forth.

So this is something you're not used to? Feeling one on the East Coast, no. When we felt that quake last year, I thought a giant fat person was pushing a cart down the hall. It took a while to register that my feet were vibrating for another reason. If only all earthquakes felt like giants walking.

Just heard that the state emergency bunker is open. ODS quipped "oh that's smart, we have an earthquake and government officials go underground".

Emergency bunker opened for a 4.5?? What happens when you get a real one? Hopefully we won't get enough practice to ever figure it out. On the bright side, my cousin in Maine about 30 miles from the epicenter said the earthquake was an excuse for wine. (I told her no one ever needs an excuse for wine, LOL.)

The epicenter was two miles from our house. I thought it was a gas explosion. There was an audible bang, and then an immediate rumble which took about ten seconds to subside. That's actually cool. I've never been close enough to an epicenter to hear it get started! I had a coworker who was landing a private plane once when an earthquake hit the airport. He didn't know what was happening, but what he saw was the runway rolling just like the ocean waves. He veered off, of course. I always thought that would've been really cool to actually see!

I find interesting the minor, deep earth quakes and the low, bass, growling sounds they make. If you put the growl to music, it would sound like the impending danger music played as the alien machine (from the Tom Cruise version of War of the Worlds) rises out of the Hudson River and tips over the passenger ferry.

Lonewolf-It's the same quake. Tiny states in New England. They are often times all affected if one is affected.

Seriously tiny states! ;D Being born and raised in the area of the country with big honkin' square states, it was a real eye-opener the first time I tried to plan a driving vacation in New England. I thought we'd cover 1 or maybe 2 states, but we touched on 6!

It probably took 20 minutes to drive from city A with population 150,000 to city B with population 150,000. Living now in Memphis, it now takes 3 plus hours to reach any city with a population greater than 20,000 and of any interest.

I can almost hold my breath for the time it takes to drive through coastal NH. LOL, that was one of the exact things I was thinking of! We left Maine one morning headed south, and I was still locating our destination on the map and programming the GPS, when my mother driving stopped at a toll booth. I said, 'there aren't any toll booths on this road in NH'. Lo and behold, I had completely missed NH while looking down, and we were in MA already. It was crazy!

Did you stop in Rockport and Marblehead (Massachusetts), two of my favorite coastal towns?

We didn't have much time on the coast in MA, as we were headed down to Cape Cod. We stopped in Plymouth and did the Pilgrim thing, but I don't recall if we stopped anywhere else. We liked the Cape a lot though!
