We didn't have much time on the coast in MA, as we were headed down to Cape Cod. We stopped in Plymouth and did the Pilgrim thing, but I don't recall if we stopped anywhere else. We liked the Cape a lot though! Best time for Cape Cod is after Labor Day. The hoards of tourists are gone and the Cape is still warm thanks to the gulf stream.

Do visit Rockport, Marblehead and even Salem (of witch trial fame). All are on the north coast from Boston. I would suggest a fall trip for excellent leaf peeping but if you're in the Rocky mts., you have that there too. Some years, driving on the back roads, the leaves are so vibrant, you would think you were driving while on LSD. The colors...the colors.

The first earthquake I remember was April 29, 1965 in Seattle 6.5, it cracked some walls at school and took down a few chimneys around town. The next was February 9, 1971 in the Sylmar area 6.6. Some people died in a hospital. There were lots of aftershocks that kept breaking walls that we had just had fixed. That one was funny to me because my ex had no clue what was happening at first. It was 6 AM so we had just woken and were still in bed when it started. He asked what the noise was and I told him earthquake then the upstairs neighbors had a bookcase fall over as the shaking started so he knew I was right. He ran to the living room window and opened the drapes to see it. I tried to tell him to get away from the window but he wanted to watch the cars bounce in the parking lot and the transformers pop off the lines. We were managing the apartments so had to see what damage was done but we only lost some water from the swimming pool. Then we moved to another building closer to the epicenter that had tons of damage we had to keep having fixed. The elevator shafts we not straight so kept sticking so I was stuck in an elevator once for an hour or so.
I don't even really notice the little quakes one that made the news I spent on the phone with my mom, she asked if we were having one at my house and said she was too but neither of us was upset about it.
