Crap.
Last year I put her in hockey and she hated the equipment. Too restrictive. I want her to learn to skate, but does it have to be figure skating? Ick.

Congrats! You've got yourself a girly girl! I'm kind of in the same boat. I was athletic in high school & a regular tomboy as a kid. So what happens when you have a family? Your kids end up being the opposite of you. My kid doesn't like volleyball. She didn't stick with tennis. She's never felt comfortable with a baseball bat. It's not a bad thing, just my kid embraces different stuff than me.

Swamp, if a child develops a passion for something healthy, let them follow their dream, as long as you can afford it. A few skating lessons and a couple of pink tutus aren't too expensive LOL. Not too many little girls make it to the Olympics....

Is she still taking dance? Did she enjoy it? If so, I'd let her do it. Tennesseer, LOL! I already recommended two dogs for them so the other one wouldn't get lonely while the family is gone. There were crickets chirping.

What's wrong with figure skating? I used to figure skate when I was young. Nothing, I used to figure skate too. The women that run the club here are snotty, rude, social climbing wenches who really pay too much attention to how much you spend on your child's skates.

Isn't ice time at weird hours too? Some private lessons are, but the basic classes are at normal times.

The women that run the club here are snotty, rude, social climbing wenches who really pay too much attention to how much you spend on your child's skates. now that is a totally valid reason. I remember those women from my club, too. and yes, figure skating ice time generally sucks. it doesn't bring in nearly as much revenue as hockey does, so the toepick brigade gets the leftover time slots whenever possible

Just get her to open skate as often as you can. Go out with her and get back in it. My parents figure skated for fun and exercise. When I was a kid growing up in NYC we'd go to a different rink every Sunday. Our local rink was located at Flushing Meadows at the site of the 1964 Worlds Fair. It was a $1 for a session. We became strong skaters and just did it for fun.

This basically describes the parents of my DD's HS on any boosters or PTA. It does start to get pretty annoying after a while. Does everyone remember I drive a 1997 Ford Taurus?

The one that your son refers to as plaid? If you judge people solely by what they wear, drive, etc you will miss out on some great people.

I drive it to all the events and park it in between all the brand new Lexus and Cadilac SUV's the students drive.

When they start in on how much they paid on their child's skates you can just look down your nose at them and respond with " Are you effing kidding??!! You know if you invested that in the market at 10% your child would have 1.5 million by the time they are 40, right? How freaking dumb are you?"

Yeah, you already mentioned that it was figure skating. I thought this was a given, and part of the lifestyle?

Basically be one of those discount store commercials where I say something oh, I love that blouse. Can you believe I got one at Marshalls for $12 ;D. This seems to make them extremely uncomfortable and is quite amusing.

Annoying people are everywhere. You don't have to join their group or pay any attention to the snot noses whatsoever. Just go watch your DD and stay out of the fray. Done.

I liked to figure skate when i was younger. Not competively of course, but it can be fun if she's just learning how and then can practice by herself when she's older.
