Was she trying to get out of a ticket by the cop knowing who she was Doesn't matter what kind of car you drive, if you break the rules, you get in trouble.

Sounds like the Entitled Mrs. is too good to be driving a car that the unwashed masses drive.

OK, I haven't read the original article and have never heard or read about this woman, so am just going by the quote in the OP. Maybe Shooby and HelloKitty know more about the situation, so their comments relate to outside information.
That being said, if you don't know more about this woman, why would you assume she's either trying to get out of a ticket or that she's "Entitled" and thinks she's too good to be driving a shitty car? The sentence in the OP sounds like she's just telling a funny story or maybe commisserating with someone who is having car problems, so why infer such negative things?
ETA - Cretinous and I were typing at the same time. Sounds like he had the same reaction.

I am making a point. If a Repo said that, what I said are the type of comments that would then ensue.

A lot of speculations on speculations, which has no benefit for anyone.

I briefly dated a cop whose dd told him she had gotten a ticket and he asked her why she hadn't mentioned she was his daughter. Getting out of tickets because of who you are is a given. Cops don't ticket other cops or their families, it seems. Professional courtesy? I think she was making light of the fact he was shocked because he expected her to be driving a better car because of who she was. I may have thought the same thing, then laughed about it because obviously cars aren't as important to her. I drove DDs car once and it was pretty spiffy and I was enjoying the ride until a cop harassed me for no good reason. The look on his face was priceless when he realized I wasn't 16 but a grown adult who started demanding why he had stopped me for no good reason, took his name and badge number, and reported him. I'm sure nothing was done but I enjoyed doing it.

First, I don't think that's true, and second, what about going immediately negative helps the level of discourse? If you can't beat em, join em?
I agree with Milee, I thought it was kind of a self-deprecating, funny story.

I also thought it was funny, and i have never cared enough about Connecticut to find out if they are democrat or republican.

I googled... she drives a 2000 Nissan Maxima. While not a super posh status car, I wouldn't characterize it as sh!tty.

Not in Connecticut, I suppose. (But Dukakis always rode the T in MA. Sometimes governors and their families cash in on that "of the people" stuff)
If she were driving a high mileage, older car, I'd say she was modeling fiscal responsibility. In a recession, I'd think a well-maintained, clean, polished, old car would inspire some confidence that this is a politician ready to take on the deficit.
The fact that it is sh!tty, to me that says it is rusty, dirty, dinged up or otherwise poorly maintained. That doesn't convey responsibility in quite the same way.
When I read the quite, she went on to say something about how she isn't eligible for security detail unless she's with her husband and she's quite second class on her own. So, that says she thinks she is too good for her ride, and is kind of a pretentious b.

How do you forget to put your seatbelt on? All of my cars (even my old crappy ones) would have flashing lights and dinging bells reminding me to put on the seatbeat.
My new car - starts out politely with the dinging and flashing and after a minute or two it escalates the warning (flashing intensity and loudness of dinging) to an almost "Danger! Will Robinson! Danger!" cresendo.

That means I pointed out to them who i was...either because I'm so out of touch that I walk around telling people how important I am for no real reason at all...or because I"m trying to get out of a ticket.

Shoot, Mrs. Ford drove a nondescript blue car when she came to our prenatal classes. Used credit cards with her maiden name on them. Purposely. Of the car Ford family.

Or they looked at her ID and noted that she had the same name as the governor's wife. I mean - I never once voluntarily blurted out my name to a policeman, but if they stopped me for a violation, 100% of them asked for my ID. So, it is totally reasonable to think that the conversation went there without her trying to be priviledged or something.

Also - does CT provide a residence? Maybe a police officer would know the address. And see someone with that name and address put two and two together.
Of course not - She must be a total bitch who is just trying to game the system.

doesn't everyone who gets pulled over say something to try to get out of a ticket?
I have no problem telling the cops I used to be an Asst. DA. When they ask what I do now, I tell them if I told them, they would probably bust out my headlights and give me a ticket for no headlight.

She got a bunch of grief earlier in the year for renovating and redecorating it with taxpayers funds.

If they put two and two together with her name and address though, then they'd have figure out who she was. She said they didn't believe she was the governor's wife, which means she said she was, and they didn't believe her. If I look at your name and address and say "oh you're the governor's wife", then there's no issue of me not believing you.

Maybe they said "Are you really the governor's wife?"
Disbelief comes in many shades. Maybe it was an initial shock, followed by recognition, not a full blown argurment with a DNA test as proof at the end.
