who might be impacted by "Irene"?
She could really play havoc with some areas fairly close to me! All we should get is LOTS of rain (I hope). At least it would give some businesses in the area some extra sales from repair materials & boarding up materials....think HD & Lowes. Might even give the building industry in the area a boost.

I'm in CA so I'm not worried about Irene; I'm just waiting for "the big one".

Unfortunately it appears it may run well off Florida's East Coast (today's track), but one never knows for sure, these storms can veer at any time. Texas would be a good place if Irene should change her mind.

I'm in NE PA - we may get left over rain over the weekend, but that is all. Good luck to those on the coast.

I'm in SE Texas... even though we're scorching, we don't like hurricanes. How about a short joke early this morning: "A travelling salesman stopped at a conv.store in Texas for some gas.... as the owner was filling his tank, the traveller said: "well, it looks like rain".... the owner replied: "I hope so, I've seen rain, but my 20 year old son has never seen rain".... ..........time for coffee; market opens in one hour....!!!

It doesn't look like I will get much if any impact now! But then again....storms don't tell the weather folks what they are going to do! Example, Charlie who was all set to hit the Tampa/St. Pete area and decided he liked Punta Gorda better! We went down afterwards & helped clean up. Ended up getting 2 flat tires on the same side...had to buy heavy duty tires as they were the last 2 in the area that would fit my Blazer! It was a mess! But it also sold me on metal roofs. All other roofs in the area had damage of some sort except the metal ones. Several tile roofed houses had the whole pile of tile fall into the house! Besides, nothing will put you to sleep better than rain falling on a metal roof!

Looks as if Central Florida will miss any impact from Irene other than some beach erosion and maybe a little rain along the coast. Appears Virginia and north along the coast will get much of the effect over the next weekend. Now at peak season for a few more to develop and head our way in the next few weeks. Hope to escape any direct hit, like Charley in 2004. Good luck, kadee, up there in Georgia. Hint: hey storms, Texas needs rain, badly, but no floods please.

Let there be RAIN. We have had a few scattered passing showers so far today, and likely will have a few more next 24-36 hours if the bands out from IRENE send some in. Perhaps Georgia will be given some fringe benefit too. Next two days should give us the answer. Good luck!

Hey Mod! I'm way over towards the west side of Ga....SW, and we are just starting to get the scattered stuff from the first band into my area. Nothing close to us yet, but there is hope! We are in an area of "extreme drought" so anything is welcome.

I'm about 40 miles NE of NYC. Living under trees, winds could be a concern. Should be a fun Weekend!

Trong.....Good luck, and hope those trees have been trimmed to let the wind blow through. Better to go to a shelter nearby if Irene stays on present course. With these things, safety first !!! Have a week's backup supplies and easy fix meals if power goes.
NOTE: kadee.... Since this is an off topic thread (dealing with the Hurricane Irene), when it is all over next week, the thread will be deleted as a matter of routine board cleanup.

Kadee... no problem, a lot of us are here on the East Coast or off the Gulf, so a timely topic, like the next hurricane to come our way this season, is proper for a temporary post. Some of us may even be directly affected by a "hit" and can relate our experience, which may be of interest to many. Thanks for your posting on "Irene". We will leave it be for another week... some effects are still ongoing and just perhaps one or two may have a final comment for us all. Believe Rovo is somewhat flexible on a few topics which may directly affect board posters in one way or another. The full economic effects of the hurricane/tropical storm are still to be counted. It did not throw the market into a tizzy, like a full, direct hit on NYC would probably have done.

I have no problem with the occasional off topic thread especially when it directly concerns the posters in our little IBB community. There is no need to delete this thread. When the interest wanes it will fall to the bottom.

Glad we did not get anyone "washed away" in the flooding. At least, no such post. Let's hope for better luck with the few more hurricanes that will be headed our way. Go on to Texas, they need the rain (but not too much flooding, please, just a good soaking).

Thanks guys! I appreciate that.
The problem with anything going to Tx. right now is that it most likely would flood that whole area since they are so dry....it won't soak in, it will just run off.
A post on another board...they have more wild fires going again too! And all of this IS going to effect our economy and the markets at some point!

patstab, I was hoping for something out of Lee too. We are really bad, just not quite as bad as Tx. I've got live oaks that are starting to shed their leaves....not a good sign! If N.O. floods again, think they will rebuild one more time?

Katia was a nice one....made a good turn east out in North Atlantic. Hope the dry southwest in Georgia got a good dose from TS Lee.

My location only got just over 1/2" yesterday & last night! However, since I checked TWC this morning & decided I could wash clothes & hang them out.....you know what happened! ;D We got a deluge while ago with NO warning and my jeans & DH's work t's are drenched....dripping! So now that they have gotten a rain-water rinse...they can stay out there all night to drip dry! When I looked just before hanging out....there wasn't anything within 40 mi. of us! Oh well, we needed the rain worse than the clothes needed to get dry! Not sure how much more we got.

Driftr ... good luck over there. If we could send y'all some good rain it would be on its way. Texas sure has had a bad year. Must be close to the record for driest season by now.
