"I have a ton of HBA."
What is HBA?
"Personally I prefer to sell on Amazon but maybe I am just not savvy enough for Ebay."
Oh I just said Ebay but I probably should have said online. Amazon would be okay too. I will look into that.

I seem to get the best deals on make-up/personal care type items. I have a ton of makeup now. Do you ever sell any of it on ebay? If so, how do you price it and is it easy to sell? I have a ton of HBA. That seems to be the best deals lately. I do get more makeup and skin care than I think we need but I also have a teenager. Nothing lasts as long as I think it will with her around. Interesting. I have a lot of HBA, but relative to shampoo, deodorant, body wash, etc., very little of it is actual makeup and most of it is the items/brands that I actually use stored in a snapwear container. Come to think of it, I guess I don't really do that many makeup deals.

beachbum: I have (4) that are $.50/1 so they will double. I'm going to send them along and if you can use them, great; if not, that's fine too. Do you think that the manufacturers purposely print a $1/2 for an area that gets doubles and give the $.50/1 to areas that don't? It kind of seems that way to me. I think they absolutely know what they are doing! Personally I can't get any milk coupons from the NJ papers at all. If I happen to get a Phila paper they have them but never in the NJ ones. We have laws that don't allow dairy to be discounted below a minimum the state sets. I know they they know it. With out this thread and people giving me theirs I would never get a gallon of milk for less than $4, ever. I have no doubt that manufactures know this and distrubute accordingly. I don't understand why though since the "doubling" comes out of the hands of the retailer. Maybe the retailers and manufacturers are in cahoots. Hmmm.....

Amazon would be okay too. I will look into that. It is health and beuty aids. But I mostly have shampoo, soap, razors, dental, skin care and make up. The skin care I try not to share with my DD. The make up is mostly all hers since I rarely use it or just certain items. The GC has made more of a girl out of me though. But I still use very little make up, just BB cream, eye liner and colored lip balm. ;D I like Amazon better for both selling and buying. I think it is just because I haven't bought much on Ebay. I also try and make sure whatever I list to sell is really close to the lowest price or I wait to sell it if I can. I have told lots of textbooks and those I just for the most I can get since they have a shelf life close to cottage cheese.

Thanks for asking though!

I'd have to agree with this. Why do we in NorCal get lower value q's in the same inserts? Not as much grocery competition as in southern Calif. and other parts of the country. That's the same reason some stores double q's and others don't. There are only 2 grocery stores in my town: Raley's and Safeway or as we call them, expensive and more expensive. The J4U program helps a lot but it takes real planning to keep the grocery bill low around here. There is a Lucky store but they won't take IP's so I don't go there. Target always has better prices on things like Grey Poupon, etc. so that's where I go for those things. I also use my EBs and UPs for grocery things when there's a good deal and/or they are about to expire. Like Dancinmama, I have saved so much $$$ from reading these threads and the kindness of my hound friends willing to share their q's--especially those of you who get those higher value ones! I still have @ 8 of the Organic Valley milk q's you all sent. Those $1.50/2 q's along with 2 .55 Real Calif. milk q's and the sale price of $3.33 qt have helped tremendously. I can get 2 qts for $6.66 minus $2.60 in q's for $4.06 OOP. That's almost the same as a gallon of the regular stuff. I'm not super duper into organic but I just love the taste of this milk.

marvholly: How much is the sweet sauce your mom uses? What is is called? I ask because the recipe I have for my Asian Chicken Salad calls for a sweet chili sauce. The brand specified in only carried at Raleys and is $5.99 jar. I substituted another brand I found at Target and it is just as good. Maybe there's another brand that would work? If not, then when you buy it, consider it a treat and invite a friend over for dinner instead of going out! That's what I do when making a more expensive meal.

This is totally OT but I am now so pissed I could scream. We have company tonight so I decided to make beef Burgundy for dinner. I have it mostly done and in the crock pot cooking away. The whole house smells fantastic! So I pull out the egg noodles to put on the counter to cook as soon as everyone gets here and what do I realize? The bag isn't as big as I thought it was. I had to get my glasses to read the small print and the damn thing went from a lb to 12oz. That isn't a little either! It is a quarter less in the same bag. Now I don't even know if it will be enough for everyone. If they have to raise the prices then raise the damn prices!! This shrinking the product in the bag is maddening! Oh, I'd be pissed too!! First they shrank the sizes and now they're raising the prices above what the old, more generous product used to cost. I don't know how people who don't shop the sales do it. Sometimes I'll get behind someone in line who has a cart filled just to remind me of how much it costs "in the real world" when you don't shop sales and use coupons and I am just SHOCKED at what people get (or should I say, don't get?) for their money.

I was craving Olive Garden's seafood portifino, but A) I didn't want to drive to get there (40 miles round trip) and B) I like to get a bottle of wine with dinner and the wine there is way overpriced (as it is everywhere). Soooo...I looked up Olive Garden's Seafood Portifino on the internet and found a copy cat recipe and made it. We chilled our own wine and had the meal for about 1/3 the cost not including the price of gas to get there and back (about another $8). I really enjoyed making it and DH was REALLY impressed with my culinary skills. I'm going to have to be careful though and not do too good a job with all these new recipes that I've been trying because DH might change his mind about taking over the cooking when he retires.

murphath: Like you, I have "expensive" (Safeway) and "more expensive" (Nob Hill/Raley's), but no Lucky. With the high cost of living in our neck of the woods, you'd think the manufacturers would throw us a bone and give us some higher valued Qs. Oh well, at least we can pass them on to those who can double.

SCOTT EXTRA SOFT BATH TISSUE GDA - CVS - THIS SUNDAY ONLY!!For those of you who are low on TP or are just TP obsessed like me: $7.49 (1) Scott Extra Soft 12-18 pk. (normal price is $11.49) -1.00 (1) $1/1 Scott Extra Soft 12 pk. or larger (8/12 SS) Exp. 9/16$6.49 OOP Limit: 3 I went in yesterday and the lrg. pk (I think it was a 12 pk.) had 646.2 sq. ft., so this is pretty darn close to following the toilet paper principle of $.01/sq. ft. ($.01004/sq. ft.). When was the last time you saw a sale at that price? HTH HAPPY HOUNDING!! ETA: It was the 18-pk that I saw yesterday, not the 12-pk.

If I had better attention and time, I would probably coupon to sell the stuff and make some $$ but I just don't have either right now with the chaos in my life.

I seem to get the best deals on make-up/personal care type items. I have a ton of makeup now. Do you ever sell any of it on ebay? If so, how do you price it and is it easy to sell? I just started selling a few things on ebay this summer. The things I've sold have mostly been meds & practical items (Lotrimin, razors, ky, Nair, Maalox, Culturelle.) I did put up 2 Bonne Bell pkgs and they haven't sold. For ebay (and probably amazon too), I would say, the more an item is needed, the more likely it is to sell. And the lighter the better. Heavier items are harder to sell because of shipping costs. Hope that helps.

I'm pretty sure it would have been in your LA Times IF you got coupons that week. It is still a pretty good deal even without the coupon.....a lot cheaper than the price of the Charmin that is on sale this week - even if you get the EB!!

Thanks Dancin! We are on our last pack. So not an erergency but I was starting to look hard. If I have a choice I would take the Scott over the Cottonelle any day. The cottonelle is just such small rolls compared to almost any other brand. Toilet paper just doesn't matter enough to me to spend money on and have it seem like each roll is single serve. I actually got 3 SS's that week and the coupon was only in 1 of them.

Murpath The asian chili sauce is VERY different from the chili sauce I use. Mine is Bennett’s. I have used the Safeway brand and its ok-bit watery. However, the entire recipe has gone up SOOO much it is just off the menu this fall/winter. I know I am altering MANY recipes to use chicken or tofu these days since beef has gotten SOOO $$.
Thought I might have missed something so I checked my local bloggers. Another week of NOTHING I want/need at my natl chain grocery stores. I will get the ads for the 2 independents near my Dad later today. All is not lost however, if there is nothing there either since I do have a BIG Aldi list.

I actually got 3 SS's that week and the coupon was only in 1 of them. NOT AN EMERGENCY?!! What is it about me and TP? I would be freaking out!! I'm always scouting out the deals on TP, even though I have a stockpile, because it is just getting so darned expensive. Notice that the manufacturers no longer put out coupons that can be used on the 4-pks, spreading the savings over a smaller amount and a lower overall cost? I bet there are several people buying the Charmin at CVS this week because the normal price is something like $14.99 or $15.99 and it's on sale for $9.94. Even though the packages "look" big and "sound" like a lot (after all it's equivalent to 32 regular rolls), it only has 334 sq. ft. of product. Even if you use a coupon and do the EB deal applying the EBs proportionately, the price is STILL $5.69 before tax ($.017/sq. ft.). Normally, I probably wouldn't look twice at the Scott as it is our least favorite national brand, but it is the "extra soft". So when I went into CVS, I decided to check it out. First, I looked at the square footage on the package (646.2 sq. ft.). That couldn't be right!! I must have transposed the numbers. I looked again and sure enough. So I did the math and was amazed at how cheap it was compared to everything else. Better yet, when I got home I looked in the database for a coupon and was pleasantly surprised that not only was there a coupon out, but I actually got it!! I plan to buy a couple with EBs that are going to expire and I even hope to get a rain check that I can use later when another $1/1 comes out and I have more EBs to burn.

Dancinmama:Have you used Scott before? I have some of the single rolls when they were on sale at RA awhile back. It is single ply and very thin. I don't know if the extra soft is any better. Have any of you tried that one? It's okay in an emergency, I guess, but I didn't think I would purchase it again--unless it was free, of course.

We have a septic system so we had to use it but I really wouldn't care even if we didn't. the extra soft is about as thick as the cottonelle just not a "fluffy". If that makes any sense. I actually like it. Not having to use more TP each time is fine with me. I just hate how "cotton ballish" the cottonelle is.

It expires on Saturday, so I might check and see if the price has switched over on Sat night. IIRC, I had to tweet or otherwise "share" the deal to get that value, but there might be others available.

Yes, I know the ones you're talking about which is exactly why I usually would not have given this deal a second look. I believe what you bought was a single roll of the Scott 1000. I had to buy those for a deal at Rite Aid a couple years ago as a filler. I have taught DH not to be brand picky and he's not; but after we used it, he did request that I buy ANY OTHER brand but that one; I had to agree. I have not tried the Scott Extra Soft, but I did "fondle" it through the cellophane package and I think it won't be any worse than the RA Simplify brand that we got for free, so I'm going to give it a try. If nothing else, I'm sure DS won't mind using it. ;D

The Scott Extra Soft is a nice TP - unlike the regular Scott. It does not clog up your toilet like Charmin does and lasts longer than Charmin or Cottonelle.

Come to think of it, I can't remember seeing Scott Extra Soft on ad before at CVS. I don't have it in my price list for TP. I know CVS has the Scott 1000 on ad fairly regularly, but I don't recall checking out the Scott Extra Soft before.
DON'T FORGET - GET RAIN CHECKS!! ;D

What's the deal on Scott's when does it start? It's just a "straight" deal at CVS that starts 9/16. $7.49 (1) Scott Extra Soft 18 pk -1.00 $1/1 Scott Extra Soft 12pk or larger (8/12 SS) EXPIRES 9/16 $6.49 + tax OOP Quantity = 646.2 sq. ft., so you're paying $.01004/sq. ft. with the $1/1 coupon and $.01159 without it - pretty cheap for these days. HTH ETA: The limit stated in the ad is 3.
