Happy Labor Day everyone!
I'm excited as DH and I went and got our washer ordered using all those HI giftcards from Rite Aid. We saved $200.00 as it was on sale and I will be getting a $50.00 rebate back from our electric company. I had $480.00 in giftcards and came home with $1.71 left. Maybe that will be enough to get some moth balls as the spiders are terrible around here.
Dancin, I'll be making your cheater beans recipe one last time this year as we're having a barbecue tonight.

I decided to make a bean casserole for today. I've posted the recipe here a couple of times. It has 4 different types of beans. I also made homemade potato salad. The main course will be burgers. Of course, we're having clam dip as an appetizer and I decided on ice cream cones for dessert. The "kids" (DS and his GF) are coming over in the late afternoon to "chill" with us. I think I'm going to have a rita. ;D

I was really hoping that it was going to work last week (or was it the week before) too. Oh well. There's nothing like getting some "free" rewards coupons for spending money that you're going to spend anyway. I used my rewards to add to my stockpiles of toilet paper, paper towels, toothpaste, Ziplocs, and laundry soap. I also got to stockpile some Planters peanuts, Act II microwave popcorn, hand sanitizer, and smoked oysters, and buy some miscellaneous items as fillers (sunflower seeds, chocolate covered raisins, shortbread cookies, super glue, etc.). It was a great way to go out. I am down to my last (8) $1 UPs from the hand sanitizer and a little bit on a RA GC (from when an UP didn't print). I'm going across town today with DH (he wants to go to Guitar Center) and I'll be burning what I have and getting out of RA as it will no longer going to be cost effective for me to shop there due to the new policy changes.

Hubby moved out this morning. I told him that I loved him and I always will and that the door was open but I understood we needed time apart. I couldn't stop the tears but I didn't blubber and he had tears in his eyes but he kept them in check. He didn't say anything but nodded his understanding and left. I believe in my heart God will bring us back together in time but I still miss him so much that I have been crying off and on all day long. I did use the Lay's IPs at the albertson's with no problem. I hope they are legit, I was only able to print 2 (I checked after I printed 2) and it said max # was printed. I did ok today buying food, it was a real challenge grocery shopping since it seemed every store I went into was playing some sappy love song

I'm going to burn some of my UPs on those and cleaning supplies. I haven't been able to find any decent food items for the pantry or else I would use some for that. Twinmama: I'm sorry you're having a tough time. Hang in there.

I saw that today was the beginning of "load2card" going national for UPs at RA. I also saw a couple of sites the suggested you could opt out of that. Of course RA CS is off today for the holiday, but I thought I would give it a try at my store, since there's apparently a way you can opt out at the register. I should have known better. Not only did the cashier and manager at my store have NO IDEA how to run the opt-out procedure, they didn't even know about the load2card thing starting in the first place. It's all over this week's ad and in multiple places on the RA website. It isn't even the first day of the sale.
I'm trying not to be too annoyed, because the fact that no one at my store gives a shit also means that they never critique my coupons and push them through even when they have problems scanning. There's also usually decent stock because they don't have many couponers in and out. I would like to do the MM deal with the poligrip this week and roll it into the carefree liners and then into the renu contact solution. I am concerned that the poligrip will sell out as this store only had 3 in stock, and if load2card is my only option I will bypass RA entirely. It's not worth dealing with the problems that I absolutely know are going to develop from this.

I just got back from Rite Aid and spent everything that I had. I will opt out just in case a killer deal comes along, but I don't really plan on shopping there anymore.

I opted out through chat with CS a couple of days ago and it took me 2 minutes. My Ups have been printing on my receipt without any issues. The only problem could be for people who do back to back transactions with Ups earned from the previous one, since new Ups don't go into effect until the next day.

I almost NEVER do a back to back transaction at RA so am not too concerned about not being able to use UP's til the next day. I have one store less than a mile from work that I pass most days and several others in my travels.

Thanks for the tip, but I already "got out" and I don't really need garbage bags (but would take them for free ;D ). I bought some of the RA TP that is on sale. I have plenty of TP too, but I know that we'll use it....eventually. IMHO, the food items at Rite Aid are the worst of all the three drug chains. Most of the edible items that I've gotten at RA have been junk: Chex Mix and other snacks, cookies, candy, ice cream, etc. - very little "real" food or pantry staples. Even though I hadn't been shopping there for quite some time until the HI GC deal came along, I'm still kinda sad - just like I was when WAGs discontinued the ESR program.

I pass at least 3 RAs on my way to and from work, so I don't have a problem rolling on different days, at least for now. Once I move and/or get a new job, I'll have to reevaluate. I just don't trust the load2card thing to actually work every time, and I prefer to be able to control the number of UPs I use, and when.

I am hanging in there, thank you! I adopted a 4 year old Maine Coon named Miles today Sweetest cat ever! I know declawing cats isn't very nice, but I have to say that it is nice not having him jump on me, nails first. (we didn't declaw him, he came that way) I have spent WAY over this week on groceries but it was mostly due to wanting to start making stuff from scratch and well, I didn't have much in my home so had to buy it all at once. I did manage to get 2 packs of chicken breasts for $1.55/lb because of that awesome Foster Farms coupon that came out last week (it was gone quick) and then I bought 4 more things of chicken breasts today at $1.88/lb (the cheapest in this area is about $1.67/lb, but happens about every 4 months and my freezer isn't big enough to stock up too much)

Trust me, he'll give you more than you'll ever give him.

Dancin Can you post your NE clam chowder recipe? I prefer the tomatoy ones vs. the milky Manhattan type. I miss WAG’s ESR too. I KNOW my WAG shopping has been MUCH less.
Emhalf I get the same no idea at all my WAG stores on everything and I even sometimes find myself telling my CVS mgrs about new corp programs.

Emhalf I get the same no idea at all my WAG stores on everything and I even sometimes find myself telling my CVS mgrs about new corp programs. If you prefer the Manhattan ones, you probably will not like this one. I googled New England clam chowder and looked at various recipes. One called for bay leaves; another called for thyme. In the end, I decided to try the simplest one I could find and modify it slightly using clam juice instead of water, deleting the salt, reducing the potatoes, and taking out some of the butter (it called for an extra T. to be added at the end). New England Clam Chowder 2 slices of bacon 1 C. chopped onion 2 T. butter 2 T. flour 2 C. liquid (juice from 2 cans of clams plus water) I used 2 C. clam juice because I had extra in the freezer and deleted the salt) 4 C. potatoes peeled and cubed (about 1/4") (I used a lot less potatoes - maybe a cup and a half to two cups. I also used red potatoes and did not peel them.) 1 1/2 t. salt (deleted because I used clam juice instead of water) ground black pepper to taste 2 C. half and half (1 pint) 2 cans of chopped clams with juice reserved In fry pan, cook the bacon until crisp. Remove, cool, and dice. Add the onion to the bacon drippings and cook until soft without allowing to brown (about 5 minutes on medium heat). In a sauce pan, melt the butter and add the flour making a roux. Slowly add the clam juice (reserved from 2 cans of clams) and season with salt (if desired) and pepper. Add the bacon, onion, and potato and bring to a boil. Cook for 15 minutes until potatoes are fork tender. Reduce heat. Slowly add the half and half and the clams until heated through. Do not allow to boil. (The recipe called for another T. of butter to be added at this point, but I deleted it as I did not feel as though it was needed). Serve with sourdough bread. I used real half and half this first time around and it was delicious, but obviously not too healthy. The next time I make it, I'm going to try it with the fat free half and half. If it is good, I'll add it to my list of winter soups. If it is not that great, then I'll leave it as is, but make it only once or twice a season.

My cvs was 75% off summer stuff today. Got a few cute things for really cheap. May go back/to a different store to get some new patio chairs. Also, the red machine was giving a CRT to scan at the register for the "bonus bucks" promotion, for those who were having a hard time finding where to sign up on their website. I got 2 on each card today so they must REALLY want people to sign up...lol!
Went to RA for the first time since I opted out of load to card and my Ups printed just fine. Their summer stuff was 75% off, too.

Le sigh...more adventures at RA. I did manage to call and opt out of load2card. It was easy, but I had to sit on hold for 15 minutes to get through to a person. Then I stopped at 2 stores on my way home, and both were out of the poligrip. Third store had the same 3 tubes they had last time, so I got 2 of them and went up to the register. Cashier wouldn't take the coupons, called up his manager, and the manager told me repeatedly that I couldn't get both for free because the coupons say "one per purchase". No amount of explaining the difference between a purchase and a transaction would change his mind. He even trotted out the old "I'll get fired if I take those" schtick, which pissed me right off. I think he really just had a problem with the idea that I would get 2 items for free and then get +UP rewards because he doesn't understand how coupons work. I called CS from the car, and I'm supposed to get some call back from a manager or something. The person I talked to did understand the whole purchase/transaction distinction, but I still don't expect this to be resolved in an ideal way. They might let me use the coupons because I complained, but they'll just be pissed at me for calling instead of actually understanding the coupons

My store had a huge pile of them left.

YEAH!! For the first time in a very long time, I got a survey request from CVS. They asked me to compare the CVS ad to the WAGs ad this Sunday (I did that one before a couple of years ago). They're gonna give me $10 in EBs to do it!!

Dancin You are right. I DON’T use potatoes or cream. Guess I will stick w/my version, at least for now. A good substitute for cream or half & half is evaporated SKIM milk. I got one of those CVS surveys several years ago but not recently. Would LOVE to do it again.
I am going to have to shop at Meijer this week after all. I got a $2 off ANY purchase coupon, exp 9/7, in my mPerks account. I wonder if my new Rx triggered it since it came about 5 hr after I got the Rx. Gotta go look at my local ad again to see what I can get for little/no further OOP.
Reviewed the ad online. I have to be prepared w/a couple scenarios since my store does NOT always follow the natl ad but I do have 3 items I can purchase w/<$1 OOP inc tax.
I am getting another Ross up near my Dad. Since I have NOT been impressed with the quality and/or prices at the 2 I have nearer me I doubt I will even go although this location is MUCH more convenient and on my regular travel route. I also think it is a BAD location for Ross since a significant portion of the population w/in 5 mi is either elderly (living on soc), unemployed and/or on assorted benefit programs (housing, food stamps, medicade.....). They can barely afford the local WalMart. DD1 teaches at the local high school so that just confirms what I see.
