I got a jewelry box and some new maternity clothes. I can't complain. Oh yeah, I think my favorite gift will be the massage gift certificate.

Nothing yet, although DH and I just got back from a wonderful week-long trip visiting family for the holidays. (We drove, and were nowhere near the NE, so weather wasn't an issue.) Tomorrow I'm taking my long string of pearls that I bought 20+ years ago and having it re-strung as a shorter, double strand. It will require more pearls and a new clasp, so it's a major investment, but I can't wait to see the results.

boos_mom - I don't think DS helped pick it out but it was hilarious getting it from him. I love Pride & Prejudice by the BBC!

SO and I don't exchange gifts, we simply buy what we want and congratulate the other on the purchase. It evens out in the end and no bad surprises. I bought myself a crap ton of clothing from Anthropologie during their safe. Now sifting through and making hard decisions on what to keep.

I got flannel jammies that are covered in hearts - head to toe, including the matching slippers. Nothing screams "completely sexless" or "Mom of young girly-girl" like these jammies. Sadly they are quite comfy. I'm afraid to wear them as it might be the final nail in the coffin of my husband's and my...shall we say...nightlife.
Maybe I'll go find something totally opposite of that as a new year's gift for my hubby.

I remember seeing one time some lingerie that had three giant fuzzy hearts to cover the three frontal locals -- it was sheer black everywhere else. Get that and wear it under the pjs.

DH bought me a Kindle! I spent all of Christmas Day downloading free books onto it. It is the awesomest!
And, though not really a gift for me, but rather nice (if you all remember my MIL saga....), my sister-in-law bought my mother-in-law a washer and dryer for Christmas. It's amazing how they can find money for things when my hubby isn't throwing money at them...

DH and I didn't exchange gifts this year-we do some years and don't others. Tonight we did the gift exchange with our closest friends and we got two cookbooks, a wine cooler, electric wine opener, wine (Surprise!), shirts, cookware, gourmet foods and stationery. We loved it all.

DH gave me a new camera and a new iPod - yea! Sis and I each got steam mops from our mom - not sure what mom was trying to hint at??? Also got the new Tom Clancy book (great so far!), some new sweaters, an iTunes gift card, and a new scarf I love. DH's parents gave me some bathroom stuff off of our registry, which is handy.
My favorite gift we gave was awesome handmade rocking horses DH made - one for his 18 month old niece and one for my 18 month old niece. They're made out of walnut, and turned out beautifully.

No one here really likes the whole gift thing so don't give or get much.
I got $200 cash, 3 hand crocheted doilies and some bath salt that says "my idea of cleaning is to sweep the room with a glance" from mom also a carpet sweeper.
Bed sheets exactly like the ones I already had, I won't even open them I only like one set to wash and put right back on no folding so the new are just spares until current wear out. White with white stripes is my favorite. From my brother and his wife.
Bubble bath and a promise of a new fishing license in April from boyfriend, I asked for bubble bath

The BBC/A&E "Pride and Prejudice" with Colin Firth is my favorite, too! The BBC/PBS version has grown on me - the one they did a few years ago when the did the Jane Austen series (I have all those dvds, too). I think the Keira Knightley version is my least favorite. My absolute favorite Austen based movie is "Persuasion" with Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds. I mostly got money for Christmas (which is fine with me!) But, I did get some Hello Kitty items to add to my collection....

nothing? in 2009 family decided to stop exchanging gifts and only give to the children. to my surprise none of us died, suffered a heart attack, or even got mad. So this year (2010) I said I'm done giving gifts. I saved now $300 to $500 by not giving gifts. I was purchasing for my parents (mom & dad), brother, girlfriend, and cat. 2010 Christmas I only purchased my chick a gift (and myself 1 gift). I told her not to get me anything because she can't afford it and it's not and shouldn't be a priority.

My 19-year old dd got me a couple of nice shirts from Macys, where she's working part-time.
My 16-year old dd worked the polls on voting day to earn her Christmas money, and insisted on spending it all. She got me a necklace (clearance) and the Patsy Cline 12 greatest hits cd I requested.
My mom-in-law asked what I wanted and I told her a watch, but nothing fancy. The Timex she bought me turned out to be a $50 model, becus she's a believer in more money spent, better quality. It's nice, but I'll probably exchange it for something that doesn't have gold hands on a gold face, too hard to read with my old eyes.
My dh got me the latest Shrek film, becus I'm a fan of the big green guy. The best gift he got me, tho, is an Ereader, a Pandigital. It's similar to a Nook, in that you upload from Barnes and Nobles. I never considered that I wanted an ereader, and don't pretend to know much about them, but I am so impressed with it. Besides downloading books, I can even access the Web and Facebook, etc. Hard to type on, with a funny keypad that comes up on screen, but still.... I've never indulged in a laptop, so this is cool for browsing on in front of the tv. I saved an article where a reviewer said that you could pop out the SDMI? card and replace it with a more powerful one and have the equivalent of an Android with it. I don't know how much more that will do for me, but I'm tempted to try it. DH got it on sale for $80, and had my dd use her 20% discount, so at $65, I'm not feeling too guilty over my new toy. I love it!

My brother gave his wife the coolest thing!
Both my brother and his wife are into digital photography. My SIL also home schools and teaches biology classes to the older home schooled children in the area. My brother got his wife a pocket projector. It is truly handheld, works off of LED lighting, and can easily hook up to a laptop or show photos / videos off of a memory card. My SIL will use it all the time. I never knew they made projectors that small!

We went out to eat Christmas dinner so we wouldn't make a mess in the kitchen. Besides, we spoil ourselves throughout the year, and spent a small fortune on our kids and grandkids for Christmas.

DH got me a Kindle. The biggest hits for the family have to be the Wii we got for the kids, and the router (so we finally have wifi). The 3 w/ laptops have been busy online (although DH gets bent out of shape when his DF games lag), and the little ones have watched almost no TV all vacation. Of course, DH's competitive nature (and lagging DF) had him playing on the Wii as much as the kids.

Dh and I get what we want any time of the year.
This is the second year we didn't exchange gifts. We didn't feel deprived at all.
It's weird.

DH got me a Nook, plus a case and a GC to Barnes and Noble to buy books, plus a cast iron skillet (my new favorite thing!).
From my parents, a couple of All-Clad skillets, a sweater, some small trinkets (earrings, a book of stamps, etc.) and cash.
We also had a small reception in my hometown to celebrate our elopement and got a number of nice gifts and lots of gift cards/cash from my parents' friends. I wasn't really expecting gifts since we didn't have an actual wedding, but I think they all appreciated the reception (the food, catered by yours truly, was way better than at any wedding I've been to!) and felt that since my parents have been generous with their children, they should reciprocate. We haven't decided how to use the money/GCs, but we're leaning toward a new king-sized bed.

Go to Bob's and try out their bob-o-pedic. It's an awesome memory foam mattress, and pretty cheap to boot. They delivered to the Bronx, so I don't think Queens would be a problem (and I believe they may have opened a store in Manhattan now).

my kids gave me a Sony ereader, which I absolutely love! I've downloaded some books and have finished 2 already. I did a lot of reviewing and thinking between a kindle and Sony earlier in the year because I review everything), but decided I would like the ability to check out books from the library, and didn't want to be backed into buying from one place like the ipods. Anyone know of a good place to download free/cheap books for the Sony? My parents gave me some money, which went straight to the cc for the appliances I just purchased (my gift to myself!). My DD is so awesome. I collect the White House ornaments and the only one I am missing is the 1989 (ironically the year she was born!). She ordered it for me so now I'll have the complete set!
