There is a coupon for CVS on facebook:
"Get a coupon for $5 off a purchase of $20 or more of stationery products at CVS/pharmacy®! Share this coupon with your friends and family in celebration of the inspirational teachers in your life!"

Appliance sales are what keeps Sears in business. They do a great job on that front but the layout of their store is funky and the merchandise is not displayed very well. Sad because I have found some killer deals in there over the years-not for me but for the kids. I got DD2's prom dress there for $5! We were just walking through the store into the mall when we saw a kiosk of clearance dresses. This was summer before her senior year. I spotted this absolutely gorgeous turquoise sparkly number in her size. She tried it on, loved it, and we bought it on the spot.

Went back to RA yesterday after printing the RA VV q for $2 off Samy product:
1 Samy haircolor $8.99 4 pkgs. Vanity Fair napkins (bogof) $7.18
Minus
$5 pdf q (check out frugaluz blog for q) $6 RA in ad q $2 RA VV q 2/.55 off Vanity Fair napkins q (7/29 RP) $2 UP
Paid .07 + $1.35 tax for total OOP $1.42 Rec'd $2 UP for VF napkins
All the q's went through fine except the $2 VV q. She had to manually enter that one. I don't know why, but my VV q's usually have to be entered manually. Strange.

Interesting - I just completed a CVS survey for EB's. It was asking my opinion about purchasing (repeat purchasing) savings passes for various things. So for example - $9.99 for a month-long 20% discount on regular prices. There were all kinds of options - 20% off beauty, 20% off CVS items, 20% for February only, etc. But really, they expect us to PAY for a measly 20% discount? That's pretty lame if you ask me, especially compared to Rite Aid's 20% discount all the time when you reach gold status. Not to mention that CVS regular prices are much higher than other stores' prices. It will be interesting to see if this is something CVS actually implements or if they're just thinking about it. Is this really a shock to anyone? Since WAGs and Rite Aid are reducing the "profitability" of their rewards programs, it makes sense that CVS would be thinking about making changes. I am bummed; but quite frankly, I am not surprised at all. What surprises me is that all three drug chains have hung in there for this long.

I can't remember the details but I think it cost $10 and you get 15% off some things through Sept. It doesn't include things like tech or ink/toner so I wouldn't buy it. The amount of stuff I would have to buy to make my money back is just too high plus those things actually mess up my rewards and rebates so it would annoy me. If I went in once a year and picked up a couple of hundred in school supplies, calculators, backpacks and such then I would buy it. CVS surprises me only because i have it on pretty good authority that a pretty low percent of ECB's even get redeemed let alone $/$$ or % off coupons. They must feel there is a market for this however limited or to us wrong. ;D

The manager at my store said that they have below average redemption. I can't remember if she was talking about EBs alone or if $/$$ and CRTs were a part of the calculation too. I have to admit, that I don't use many email coupons that are not $/$$ or for a free item.

I have to admit, that I don't use many email coupons that are not $/$$ or for a free item. well normal coupon redemption rate is 1 out of 9 so I would think the percent off or the $/$$ off ones fall into that category. My source told me that only about 30% of ECBs are ever redeemed but that a large portion of their profit making sales come from sales in which a customer comes in the store to redeem one. Or it may be that a large percent of sales in which people redeem ECBs generate good profits. I can't remember which. They said it is actually very rare for someone to try, let alone succeed, in only using an ECB on products that are on sale or generate another ECB. I feel like a Unicorn when I use regular coupons, ECBs and CVS CRTs etc in my store. ;D It makes sense considering most ECBs are at least partially funded by the manufacturers anyway that CVS would really want to get customers to come back in and use that coupons/ECB on something that isn't on sale, where they make good money, while making the customer happy with the other manufacturers money.

Maybe there's hope of the program continuing after all. All I know is that CVS probably has made very, very little money off of me, if any at all. I can't remember every walking in there just to buy something. There have always been coupons, EBs, CRTs, and/or $/$$ involved in every single transaction.

There is a 20% off any beauty purchase coupon on facebook, CVS beauty club page (if you like it). It does not seem to exclude sale items. It expires 8/24.

[image] If my CVS is any indication, there are tons of people who go in there just to buy something. Of course, we are @ 5 miles to the closest grocery store so I think people stop on their way home. But it seems there is always a line and I very rarely see anyone scanning their card at the red machine or using EB's, CRT's at the register. When someone is behind me and they see my total they are always surprised. A normal comment is: I should start using coupons. I very nicely say, "Yes, you should because they aren't really coupons. They are money, pure and simple, given to you by the store and/or manufacturer. Keeps more of the real green in my pocket." ;D

While I was waiting, the guy in front of me bought 2 Visine, 2 packages of pens and a bag of dog treats and his total was $38.xx!! It always blows my mind too!

Last week at CVS the women in front of me had a couple of cases of water, soda, chips and some tylenol and shampoo. Other than the cases of water and soda it all fit comfortably in the little CVS bag and her total came to over $90. Then I checked out and bought 8 dove shampoos for 0.35 cents.

re JCPenny - over the course of the last 6 years i preferred shopping there because they had stylish, yet proper fitting attire for a plus size woman at decent prices (compared to lane-gauge-your-wallet-bryant). with coupons & sales & clearance i could easily get a new outfit for less than $20. i noticed that with the 'no coupons' game came not-so-flattering plus size clothing. so i did shop there to use a couple of gift cards this year. i probably overspent compared to previous years, but i needed the 2 pieces i got (work pants & top) & i didn't technically pay for them since they were x-mas presents, but it still hurt my heart to spend that much.
re Sears - i have never liked their stores. i found 1 store where i liked their clothing choices for my size but it was very limited & i never caught the right sales, etc. so never really shopped there. overall, my impression is the stores have too much crap or nothing at all. one sears we went to literally had 1 item per side on every rack for the men's shirt section. imagine a store with a whole section literally empty. i don't have to worry about appliances yet so i have no experience with that dept.

We don't have either a JC Penney or a Sears in my town. The only dept. store that I have close by is Kohls and I have yet to buy any clothing for myself there. I have purchased appliances at Sears. Last year I bought a freezer for the garage and the year before that I bought a new Bosch dishwasher. They have a pretty good selection of all the various brands and if they don't carry something in the store, you can buy it on-line.

dancin - you aren't missing much by not having those stores. probably saves you more money that way. I'm not a shopper anyway. I hate, hate, hate clothes shopping. I guess it stems from the fact that for 25 years I lived in a po-dunk, isolated town that had almost no shopping whatsoever. I have a "stockpile" of jeans that I bought on clearance at Coldwater Creek and turtlenecks (for the winter) that I bought from the Lands End catalog. I have capris and tops for the summer (mostly from Ross) and t-shirts to go with jeans and sneakers. That's the basis of my wardrobe with a few things (dress jackets and slings/boots/sandals) that help me dress things up or dress them down. DH hates to shop for clothes too. I had to force him to go to Kohl's with me when they had their big Father's Day sale and oodles of coupons to use to get stuff really cheaply. When we get really old, we're going to be quite the pair.

When my kids were young, particularly my son, I would buy all his Levi's jeans at Sears. They had a guarantee that if something wore out, they would replace it in the same size, same pair with the original receipt. My DS was always wearing out the knees in his jeans. Can't tell you how many pairs I returned for a brand new pair. I think it was part of the KidVantage program.
Otherwise, the main things I've purchased there in the past 20 years have been my Bosch dishwasher and tools for DH.

Well, gals. DH and I are taking a day-trip today. He's FINALLY gotten a couple of days where he could take vacation. He's at the use-it or lose-it stage and it's awful cuz all the stuff he's scheduled for (meetings etc.) make it hard for him to take time off.
Anyway, we're headed up "scenic" Hwy. 1 in CA. We're not going anywhere in particular - just exploring. ;D

I had a HUGE post typed in word but for some weird reason I had a 2 second power flicker and it is now lost. I only remember a few parts.
Tue was a GREAT shopping day. Got a bunch of needs and stockups (individual portions of fish, 0.69, individual cooked chicken breasts, 0.50, 2lb rice 1.49). Both the fish & chicken were cheaper than buying the multi serve alternatives. Also, my Dad’s caretaker found a Sun paper w/the coupon inserts from the last TWO weeks. Whenever he finds a Sun paper he grabs the coupons for me so I got a 2nd Ken’s coupon.
YIPEEE!!! Got my ads for our wed/thur grocery sales. Albertsons has the Ken’s for $1 = FREE!!!! I may even buy more than the 2 I have coupons on depending on expire dates. They also have creamette or Ronzoni pasta for 0.75. My stockpile has plenty of whole wheat but is VERY low on plain white. Aldi has some GREAT produce deals again too.
