thanks Anne! The salon where I got mine done said it was formaldehyde free but now I don't know if it could have formaldehyde in one of the other forms listed on the link you gave. Freaking scary!

I use the Loreal Sulfate free shampoo but seem to need a slightly heavier conditioner for my hair. ETA: I used to use Pantene until I heard how bad it was. I sure liked the smell though

Chive, you're good.. that isn't a banana clip. If you had a banana clip in your hair, I'd have one of my friends stand with you over their shoulder so we could covertly capture the look on our photo safari. (I told you I was an asshole... but we do try to be subtle) I have wavy hair that needs significant Aveda assistance to qualify as curly, but those of you with honest to goodness curls need to read Curly Girl. It's meant for adolescents, which is mildly embarrassing since I didn't learn how to operate my hair until I was 29, but it will still change your life. www.amazon.com/Curly-Girl-Lorraine-Massey/dp/0761123008

Tina, I had a doctor tell me prenatals are good for your nails too. See multi purpose vitamins!
My hair's wavy today. I was too damn tired to dry it last night. And its too hot for that.

Eh, I guess upon reflection I might separate myself in some senses. I know when shopping for a place to live I turned my noses up at certain places because it wasn't "nice enough." And I knew I could afford better. It was really more the apartment/house though and not the people.

sarah, that's a very accurate way of putting things - how to operate my hair. I haven't the faintest clue how to do it up curly. the curls run on Dad's side of the family - all those ladies live a time zone away and I didn't see them all that often when I was a kid, so I never learned what to do. this weekend, I washed/conditioned like I always do, then doused it in some of my friend's Aussie mousse+ leave-in conditioner stuff, and tried my best not to touch it. once it was halfway dry, I sprayed it to keep it contained (it gets BIG). maybe I should grab a copy of that book. the newer version, anyway. the original one looks like it's from the 70s.

I have thick wavy hair and i've been letting it air dry and go natural. Hooray for it being long enough to look nice! I really like redken all soft, but Ive been using dove nourishing oil shampoo and conditioner. I put a little bit of osmo clay wax in my hair to keep it wavy and not frizzy. It's actually the man friend's product for his faux hawk but i like it too.

I remember attending a conference in Galveston once (this is located on the gulf coast in TX for those who don't know). It was extremely humid. This was the timeline of my hair on the first day:
12 PM - Arrival 1PM - Julia Roberts Pretty Woman big 3PM - White Donna Summers 5PM - Twisted Sister 1980's rock band big 6PM - Braided
Hair remained braided for the next 3 days until I left Galveston

I am pretty sure we are about the poorest people in this town/school district. We do shower though so I insist on being called washed masses. Former New Englander here, I don't know if that counts , I used to shop at Fernandes. Is that grocery store even around anymore? Wasn't Fernandes a Western Mass. chain? Or am I confusing it with another chain? I don't think it's around anymore. But, IIRC, shopping at Fernandes would put you among the masses. ;D And, I'm right with you as far as being the poorest in your town. We used to be lower than even the masses in our old town but I think we are on the low end of the masses in our new town. Truth is, the new town is conveniently located and we fell in love with the house. So, here we be. No intent to avoid any classes of people. Just an intent to finally own a home.

I lived in NW CT and my parents were from New Bedford MA. There were tons of Fernandes there way back when. I am pretty sure it was a pretty ethnic type of grocery store back then. Probably not the type of place that someone who shops at Whole Foods would frequent. ;D

Is this the place where the conversation wanders into hair in other places and gets locked by a Mod?

I really can't stand large groups of people. People are annoying, loud, rude, and lots of them seem to be confused about basic hygiene. I simply just stay home. I took my kids to the Smithosonian and it was one of the most miserable days in throngs and hoards of people. No thanks. Staying home and saving money helps me avoid hoards of people. i don't like to attend events because there arent' that many things that enthrall me that i want to stand in line for. However, right now, we are at Disney for the first time. So, lots of people.

When I was in college we had a visiting professor from South Africa who proceeded to tell us all that we, as Americans, bathed too much. I was in the class with a lot of football players and to me, they couldn't have showered often enough! We all were pretty creeped out by his statement and no one bothered to get close enough to him to see if he practiced what he preached.

Talk about unwashed masses, LOL. Shooby, hope you are able to find something to enjoy about the Magic Kingdom a/k/a the Greatest Place on Earth.

It's funny; I have a friend who served in the Peace Corps in Guatemala (about 5 years ago), and their mission was to improve hygiene. It turns out that when people don't have enough clean water to DRINK, it's sort of an uphill battle to teach them that washing their hands is important. It's easy for Americans to forget how very privileged we are. For the record, I'm part of the daily-bathing masses.
