Those sales were of a newly minted coin to dealers. Fairly common with a new coin. Overall sales from the mint have been DOWN over the last two years.
Gold and Silver are both DOWN sharply since last year. Silver down almost 45% a few months ago. That would be the equivalent of the stock market dropping back to 6500. With unemployment steady or slowly improving and housing slowly improving, I don't see a huge jump in Metal coming. Feel bad for the folks that bought silver at $50 and Gold at $1900+.

Yeah, due to unprecedented naked shorting by the big boys. That said, gold has never been a great investment. Just a sure way to preserve your wealth when the economy goes to pot.

I find it funny that you all hold gold and silver for the very reasons you make fun of decoy409 for. With gold at 1650 and silver at 30 ,holding steady , says a lot . I remember some fool calling for a 20,000 dollar DOW . How can equity's lose when banks are getting free money to gamble with . Gotta love those HFT machines and the derivative nightmare. America is in decline. More people than ever on the government tit , including Wall Street. You have no idea why I collect coins. I find it funny that you profits of doom still just don't get it. The Euro is the USD, the Yuan and Yen, yep both USD's. Keep dreaming about a terminal decline it's never going to happen. You guys just don't get that life is about balance, it's chemistry. The spirit of the USA is directly linked to the human spirit; unbreakable, relentless, and FREE!!! -flag-

I see what you mean . That's some growth for you... By Greg RobbWASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - The Richmond Fed's index of manufacturing activity fell in January to negative 12 from 5 in December, the bank said Tuesday. The decline is another sign of weak conditions in the manufacturing sector. The details of the report were also weak. The new-orders index sank 27 points to negative 17 and the shipments index retreated 12 points to negative 11. The employment index slipped 2 points to negative 5. Numbers below zero indicate contraction. The Richmond Fed covers a region stretching from Maryland to South Carolina and extending out to most of West Virginia.

Wxyz , I understand what your saying and if you find someone that needs a buck you can buy under spot. The fact remains 6 million oz. of silver were sold at @ 60 dollars an ounce. That's twice spot. Like Virgil mentioned the paper shorts are suppressing prices. The Feds money printing will never reach the streets.

Hey Dam Show me some source that says that 6 million or even for that matter, ONE OZ, of silver was recently sold by the mint for $60 per oz. Since I bought a sleeve of 20 uncirculated Silver Eagles from my dealer the first week of January for WAY WAY below $60, I just do not believe your post till I can get you to show some confirmation. (I can buy them today for $37) This is NOT someone that is selling below spot. Spot today is $32.48. Real dealers such as mine DO NOT sell under spot. I appreciate your point of view. The economy today is very screwed up. But, trying to say that the mint is selling an oz of silver at $60 when spot is in the $30's is DISINFORMATION and is not credible. You have many very valid arguments when it comes to the economy and the fed, etc, etc, there is no reason to exaggerate the price of silver. www.coinweek.com/modern-coins/the-coin-analyst-u-s-mint-sells-out-of-2013-silver-eagles-and-keeps-collectors-guessing-about-early-numismatic-sell-outs/" In addition to the 2013 AtB coins, the 2013 American silver eagle proof coin, which releases on January 24, will be $62.95, or $3 higher than last year’s coin, and the 2013 burnished uncirculated coin with a “W” mintmark, which will be released in May, will be $53.95, also $3 higher than the 2012 coin.

Aham, the foundation formed by those ideals you speak of support nothing more than a house of asbestos and it is full of rats. Ill never argue the fact that all good things are possible through JC. Your links will not open.

@damnnotagain - perhaps you should pay a bit better attention to steady's mini profile. though not everyone's shows gender (since it's personal preference to display or not), steady's plainly has the symbol, which indicates he is MALE.

Ok I got it. I just looked at the mint page. They do not sell regular uncirculated silver eagles. You have to buy them from a dealer. They do sell PROOF Silver Eagles for about $62 per coin. The price you pay for a proof coin has nothing to do with the price or availability of silver. wxyz , that is correct silver proof uncirculated silver eagles sell for @ 60 dollars. I am glad we can agree that all 6 million silver eagles were sold . Price will reflect demand. Why one 1794 silver dollar said to have passed through the hands of George Washington's , Value $15 million For one ounce who would have thought. Comparable to any Stradivari .

As the Feds policy of steady as she goes with money printing continuing, more and more country's are looking to back their currency by gold. One example is Germany as it begins to repatriate its gold. Merkel is just the vessel needed . By repatriating German gold they are not allowing the piigs to back their loans with German gold. "The world is headed toward uncharted waters of a durable multi-currency reserve system," it said. During this uncertain transition period, central banks around the world are expected to increase their interest in gold." zero hedge
Seeing is believing.

Untill they can run from the euro.
As J.P. Morgan once famously quipped, “Gold is money. Everything else is credit.”

Say....what ever became of that 9000 or 1100 GOLD and 7 on the SILVER
Apparently the same thing that happenned to $5000 gold and DOW 1000, although it appears that $1200 gold, the actual number that has been batted around by some (yes you kman....lol!) is a lot closer to today's price than the predictions of some others out here..........

More nonsence. Then tell me why central banks have purchased more gold last year (2012) than in the last fifty? Germans want to prepare for the euros collapse and they have no faith in our banking system.

Japans is more than double that. We are fine.
