But Buddhists do beleive in Heaven and Hell. Buddhists believe in Reincarnation. Unfortunately not the concept of Heaven and Hell that you may be well versed with. Perhaps this Heaven and Hell has more to do with Karma than Eternal offerings.

To be fair, not all people who believe in heaven also believe in hell. I'd be willing to bet, however, all people who believe in hell also believe in heaven. I believe in heaven and the only hell I believe in is the one we create for ourselves right here. I know quite a few Christians who feel the same way you do, lonewolf.

I believe the original study (if any) would have been something such as ''People who believe in God commit more Crime''.

I don't believe in heaven or hell - so should I run out and commit a crime or not?

And aren't people who don't believe in Heaven called Atheists? Atheists believe in neither Heaven OR Hell. They believe they're born, they live, they die. End of story. That is my belief, end of story.

Hell is on earth? No, that isn't by experience whatsoever. The good on earth certainly outweighs the bad in my opinion. I have had more blessings than i deserve, that's for sure.

Ktunes said this.I know, right. Is it believed that people who believe in God oughta know better, and therefore someone made tally of their crimes? Hmmm.. I would dare say, there are a whole lot of crimes some folks never got caught in and escaped the tally-oops! Shooby.. I am in total agreement with your comment concerning not deserving of so many blessings we've been blessed with. I don't think any of us will ever ever ever be good enough, nor can be, to deserve what only God can provide.. For example, life. Christ died while all of us were yet sinners, not having ever entered the loins of our parents.. God knew every man would be born in sin is why, because of the fall. Thereby plunging man into the dispensation of grace. By the way.. I read your post on the depression thread. Great read. I've read the book by John Bevere, The Bait of Satan several times. Unforgiveness will kill the person who refuse to forgive and contaminate the world around them too if allowed. I mentioned this very book to someone over the weekend. It is a very good read with tons of truth.

How many times have we heard it said or even said it ourselves when the heat is turned up in our lives? We don't want no parts of hell, while on earth or after life, 'cause hell on earth is heat enough for most of us..

No, not if you think of it as the traditional hell. I look at hell as a place of learning. It can be a good experience or a bad one. That is not my understanding of hell. Can there be "hellish" moments and events? Yes, i agree. But, i understand Hell as a terrible, final state of being.

Oh.. Your understanding is quite correct.
Some believe hell is real and others don't, though. But, I do. Believe hell is a very real place, that is.

What about Buddhist heaven and hell? Buddhists are Atheists. Re on the thread matter: Correlation between Crime and Heaven Believers maybe spurious. Any mathematician or statistician will proudly tell you that correlation does not imply causation. Correlation DOES imply causation, but nonetheless, causation shouldnt be inferred from correlation......................(an anyone who can spell mathematician gets MY votewhlst Im being pretentious!) ;D

Not according to a friend of mine that served in the local Buddhist temple. He said eventually you run out of chances at reincarnation, and you'll eventually wind up in torment forever. religion loves to frighten............tales of hell and retribution and evil,etc...................... some folk of a surly tapster tell, and daub his visage with the smoke of Hell. they talk of some strict testing of us.............pish! -he's a good fellow, and 'twill all be well.............

tiz all tales of 'miracles' and prophecies in the inaccessible past, and threats of retribution to come, and no acknowledgement of NOW,which any child will tell us,is all there is. Why cant God be 'now'?.why does it have to be tangled up with daft tales and fairy tales? My theory is that its well possible that the adherents of such things have no understanding of God being real, and so invent things; they are wishing for what they already have, and, as such are 'unbelievers'..ho hum............the first shall come last,etc.................

I believe in heaven and the only hell I believe in is the one we create for ourselves right here. I think that is what on earth as it is in heaven means. Look at how about 80% of the world lives.. We ARE all truly blessed to live in the conditions we do. Regardless of if we want to admit it or not. Most people that live on our streets have it better then LOTS of people all over this world. I believe that our actions could eternally damn us for sure, however, I also believe it's our duty to be kind to each other. God, Love, Freedom.

'I believe that our actions could eternally damn us for sure, however, I also believe it's our duty to be kind to each other.' Hi Ham......could you explain 'eternally damned' for me ,as ive often heard the phrase used, but dont understand, as to use the idea of 'eternal', and 'damned' together seems like a contradiction in terms..................... OK- thats that bit ;now for 'duty'...........(and 'kind')...............kind is rather subjective,ie Im doing this for your own good, or im damning you for eternity(whats eternity,BTW?), for youre own good(if I wasnt doing it for your own good, ,it'd make me cruel and vindictive, and we know that god isnt those things... ),or 'I know it stings, but it'll make it better';anyway, you get my drift..... Duty.....................perhaps its built into us in such a way that it'd be more accurate to use the word 'pleasure' instead if duty';in fact, it might even be said that if you can only be kind out of 'duty', then you may as welljust (shoot yourself?) be cruel,as the road to Hell(if you like to subscribe to such an empty threat),is in the intent more,or as much as in the action.............. but waddoo I know?........Im just another retired old fart eating toast and drinking tea in the morning, with nowt better to do than string words together, hoping they'll stir ol' Hammy up for some answers, since im no good at answers- only questions! RSVP.......................eggy

Eggy says, Hi Ham......could you explain 'eternally damned' for me ,as ive often heard the phrase used, but dont understand, as to use the idea of 'eternal', and 'damned' together seems like a contradiction in terms..................... Its simple Eggy, it mean you will be dammed to hell for ever, but really, would it be a bad thing. Everything you like, like gambling, drinking, women in abundance, is not good for you according to the religious and god. They believe that is the devils domain, and if Hell is the devils domain, and you have liked all that the devil has to offer, well Hell can't be that bad of a place, can it.

Hi Jack! I must partly disagree, cos according to common rumour, the muslims have 72 virgins awaiting their attentions(dunno wot ded muslim women get, tho),so women in abundance is OK in some religions;in others, virgins give birth, tho, having had a medical education, I cant see how something as large as a child can get through a hymen and not bust it............... (still- what do I know?) all the devil has on pffer/....................strawberry cheesecake, maybe; is liking that as bad as ,say, 'taking the lords name in vain', ...how do we compare sins, and their relative sinfulness? maybe the catholics have that taped;the number of hail marys and our fathers are in proportion to the sin committed, so thats answered my own question, I think................anyway, i digress.off to pop another bottle of cobra(n is that a stepping stone to hell, od Ok in moderatoin?98whats moderation?................see....its full of let outs and holes................)hey ho..down the hatch and off to Hell(again........................) ;D

Its plausible to say also 'people commit even more crimes by believing in the movies', (in a manner of speaking.) Indeed the great entertainment show gives false hope to dream hungry individuals that are bewitched with unimportance in reality. Commodities and goods must be got ,-real real fast. I don't think I have ever seen a thin hungry desperate individual go to prison, perhaps they die where they shelter. Oddly by the same manner,- Other criminals seem pretty well fed, even before the crime!!?? It is a topsy turvy world, fortunately love is there somewhere. .

Egg. quote. (Hi Egg and Jack) tiz all tales of 'miracles' and prophecies in the inaccessible past, and threats of retribution to come, and no acknowledgement of NOW,
A child has no understanding of the past or the future. As adults we do.
'When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.' Paul to the Corinthians
Living Translation (©2007)
If we live for 'now' we dishonour the past - events and people. These have given us our freedoms etc. 'now'. We also dishonour the future for it is upon our 'now' that the future of our children is shaped.
Something I learned long ago. The last line can be used spiritually, as intended, or otherwise
I've only just a minute, Only sixty seconds in it. Forced upon me, can't refuse it, Didn't seek it, didn't choose it, But it's up to me to use it. I must suffer if I lose it, Give an account if I abuse it, Just a tiny little minute, But eternity is in it.
Benjamin Mays.
