I have 3 newspaper subscriptions - 2 of the larger paper and one of the smaller ones. I paid 50c per paper for the Sunday edition for the smaller paper which was a great deal for me, but I received the renewal notice yesterday and they want 81.60 for 48 weeks . That comes to 1.70 per paper, which is more than what I would pay if I bought it from the store. I called and cancelled today, since they don't even get the higher value Qs like Schick or Aveeno. I've been cleaning my home and collecting stuff for donations. I have more than enough of a lot of the stuff we use so I figured, 2 papers should be enough for most of the deals and if I see very good Qs I can always buy a couple of papers on Sunday. ETA - Forgot to ask my question - I know a lot of you get free papers, but for those who pay for newspapers, what is the price that is acceptable? Thanks

ETA - Forgot to ask my question - I know a lot of you get free papers, but for those who pay for newspapers, what is the price that is acceptable? Thanks The prices for me (news stand prices) are $1 for the metro paper and $3 for the major metro paper (I have no idea of the price of the local paper because it does not offer coupons). I could get a subscription to the metro paper for $.77 for Sunday only delivery. I don't think I'd pay any more than $1 for a paper and then I'd be picky about buying them. I might not buy any one week and buy three or more another week depending on the coupons offered and based on the deals that we see these days. I would say that I have used more P&G coupons than anything else, so the weeks that P&G are included are when I would have a tendency to buy more (again, depending on the products and values of the Qs offered). In the hay day of the drug chain rewards and rebates, there would be times when I'd look at the Sunday coupons and think that there were none that I would be likely to use and then there would be a huge MM on Prep H or Mylanta or some diabetic product, and I would laugh because I had thought that I would never use the Q. Those days, however, seem to be waning. Once you cancel your subscription, it probably won't be long until you get another offer to subscribe again. HTH ETA: When I look at my stockpile and consider the products that I have, I notice that it seems as though there is not a ton of variety in the brands that I have (besides shampoo, but that too is mostly P&G). Toothpaste is mostly Colgate and Crest. Laundry soap is mostly All and Wisk. Deodorant is mostly Mennen and Gillette. I have a straggler here and there for all products, but I can tell that most are one or two brands. That leads me to believe that the most cost efficient way to buy coupons for stockpiling is to look for the weeks that offer a coupon on a product that yielded an opportunity to stockpile for FREE several times in the past, especially if your stockpile is getting low on that product. As we all know, it may or may not pan out. And then there's always our coupon exchange here or the "buy what you need method" to get more coupons if you missed a week where you should have purchased more.

I pay $2 for the LA Times, has the best inserts compared to the local paper that also charges $2. Sometimes, the people who stuff the paper are uber nice and put 2 of each insert in there, usually giving me a total of 6 inserts a paper ( i usually get 2 different SS) so I usually only buy 2-3 papers, depending what is in there

Thanks for the feedback ladies. I think I am good on the other subscription for less than 1$ for the next year.
I also get free papers from my boss in exchange for giving his church all the meds, toothpaste and other stuff that we don't use.

DS used to deliver it and we nicknamed it "The Astonisher" because it seemed like the state and national news was a day old.

FREE OLAY at Rite Aid! If you bought anything at RA this week, there is probably a CRT on your receipt for $5 off any Olay Pro-X or Regenerist. There is also a $3/1 Regenerist cleanser or moisturizer MC in the recent P&G. I found Regenerist cleanser for 7.99. I must have gotten my gold discount as they had to adjust the $5 coupon. I bought a 1 ltr diet coke for .79 and I was still .22 negative. He adjusted it and I had a 0 balance. Not even tax!

Our local Sunday paper, that has horrible coupons, just raised their price May 1st from 1.75 to 3.00! I was getting just Sunday promo subscription for about $1 a week, but it expired and with this increase, I promptly canceled. There is a paper for the city 45 minutes south of me that is still 1.75 so I buy that now. I only buy one a week now, unless there is a great coupon. There is a NYC paper that is 1.25 but it only has RP and P&G, no SS, so sometimes I'll buy that. I sometimes get one set from a coworker and sometimes can get extras from my campground free, but it's a week later and hit or miss...

Don't know how many of you get the Thursday paper, but in the Detroit Free Press today there was a $5/$20 coupon for CVS! It was on page 3. Other papers have been reported as having them in the front section as well. I know the Kansas Star has it online.

Some of you may remember my Target story from awhile back re the woman with the $700+ order and her coupons--the one who after all teh coupons were scanned, returned the Phillips Sonicare brushes/replacement heads (she had gotten $10 off her order for each of the q's she used for those--and @ $25 was taken off her order for each one she returned). I have seen the cashier again but as of last week our Target now requires that you put the coupons you are using on/under the item you are buying. Per my cashier today, that is a direct result of that particular customer. They had tried doing this before but because it took so much time for the cashier to match the coupons to the item, they discontinued that. But it's back with a twist: the customer must put the coupons on/under the item they are purchasing. Doesn't bother me as I'm pretty organized. But I thought I'd let you guys know the result of that particular incident.
Here's what I did at Target today: 2 Comet stainless steel cleanser: $3.64 minus 2/$1 Target q's and 2/.75 man. q's = .14 1 tomato .99 1 red onion .79 2 Bullseye BBQ sauce: $2.78 Minus $1/2 Target q = $1.78 2 UP liquid soap $1.98 Minus 2/.50 Target q's = .98 1 Garnier Fructis pomade $2.99 Minus $1.25 man. q and $1 Target q = .74 Sandwich bags, 300 ct $2.49 1 Market Pantry fruit snacks: $3.38 Minus $1 Target q = $2.28 2 Breyers Blasts $6.00 Minus $1.50/2 Target q and 2/.75 IP's = $3.00 1 Ritz & 1 Triscuit: $5.08 Minus $1 Target q and $1/2 man q = $3.08 2 Market Pantry cheese $4.78 Minus $1 Target q = $3.78 1 Dr. Scholl's for men and 1 Dr. Scholl's for women: $16.48 Minus 2/$2 Target q's and 2/$3 man q's = $6.48
Total after tax and 5% RedCard discount was $26.49. I also received a $5.00 Target gift card for the Dr. Scholl's inserts.
I also went to Kohl's and bought: Men's lowcut socks: $12.00 (sale price) Men's swim trunks $17.99
Minus $10 off $25 men's apparel purchase Minus 20% off coupon Total with tax was $17.33
Quickly stopped at CVS:
Crest Prohealth rinse: $5.99 Minus .25 man q $5 EB Balance of .82 was cleared with my Olay gift card Got $5 EB back for Crest and $1 EB for bag tag. Wish I had gotten the $1 mouthwash CRT but, alas, I did not. Oh well...
I'll do this one more time tomorrow.

By the by: I got 10 servings from that $4 pkg of chicken leg quarters I bought on Mon. that is 10 nights of NOT needing to cook up an entrée-only sides (veg, salad, and/or fruit) needed to complete a meal except that I have given some to my Dad’s caretaker.
My area newspaper had a $4/$20 coupon as well as several different soda deals I know of going. Since I also have a red machine coupon for some stuff (about a $3 discount + I have a mfg coupon) my Dad regularly uses I am going to try to hit that $20 mark today. If I can my store mgr & cashiers will FREAK since I NEVER do that.
It is the 8th of the month and not only does my Safeway NOT have the new June produce dept booklets but it is STILL not posted on the web site. Time for another (futile) complaint to Safeway corp.
Dancin When I bought liquid or powder dw detergent I always used less than normal and I still do in the washer. Maybe that is my ‘issue’ w/ Finish. Maybe I’ll try ½-2/3 tablet when I get back to that brand.
Beaachbum WHERE did you find the Ken’s so cheap (assuming the $1 coupon in play)? I LOVE Ken’s but the best price here since the coupon has been $2.
Sam I just might do the Target registry because I REALLY need to replace some things I got as shower/wedding gifts back in 1969 – just refer to it as my ‘wish list.’ However, in spite of having a Target card, I did NOT get the mailing.

Beaachbum WHERE did you find the Ken’s so cheap (assuming the $1 coupon in play)? I LOVE Ken’s but the best price here since the coupon has been $2. Shoprite this week had a four day sale Wed-Sat with the Ken's salad dressing 9 oz size on sale for 0.88 cents each. If you got the 0.50/1 coupons it would double making the bottles free. I only got 2 of those coupons. The other 2 of my coupons were the $1/2 coupons. So I got a few bottles free and some for $0.38 cents each. The 0.38 cents each is still a good deal as the best price I have seen in a while is over a dollar for the 16 oz bottle. HTH someone! As far as papers DH loves to sit and read the Sunday paper and it has to be a physical one not on the computer. One of them is $1.75 and the others are all $2. We switch up from week to week as we feel like reading the local one vs one of the bigger city type papers.

What are these produce booklets from Safeway? Do these have actual coupons for real foods? This is where we struggle with our couponing - meats and veggies are central to our meals so buying all the foods with coupons like boxed and canned goods isn't as helpful at reducing our grocery bill as coupons for meats and veggies would be. Where do you typically find these booklets?

If you guys are low on laundry soap, Safeway family stores have All detergent packs 2 for $5, 24 loads each. There is a $1 coupons I think we got last week, so it makes them $1.50/bag, limit 4, today only.

mourningcloak,
If you have just4u program and have signed up, check the coupons under the fresh fruits and vegetables section. I have been constantly getting a 3$/10 Q for weeks now. Others have reported getting 3$/3 produce. If I am in a hurry and need just a few things and don't have time to go to the farmers market or the smaller ethnic stores, I stock up on sale fruits and veggies using that Q.

This is where we struggle with our couponing - meats and veggies are central to our meals so buying all the foods with coupons like boxed and canned goods isn't as helpful at reducing our grocery bill as coupons for meats and veggies would be. Where do you typically find these booklets? It's called Safeway Fresh Ideas Magazine. It's really more like an 8 /12 x 11 paper flyer because its only about 8 pages and it isn't on glossy paper. It has coupons for produce items, articles, and recipes. Last year or the year before there was a $1/1 coupon for Dole Real Fruit Smoothies and they were on sale for $1. There were A TON of those flyers in my store so I was able to stockpile a bunch of them for free. They've also had a $2 coupon for the Fresh Express Salad Kits when they were on sale for $2.50 ea. making them $.50/kit with the coupon. The first time it happened some of their kits even had chicken in them!! In the May issue, some of the coupons expire the end of June and some of they expire the end of July so they have a 2-3 month "life". HTH ETA: Oh, I almost forgot. You can go on www.tonytantillo.com and print them off or at least see what the mag looks like.

mourningcloak: These are 8.5 x 11" booklets found in the produce section. They are in different locations in each Safeway. My local one has them on the front of the first produce display. If you think of the display as a box with 2x4 square framing, they would be located on the framing in a clear, plastic holder. Most people don't notice them because their eye is drawn to the produce in the display box. Also, the front page of the booklet is all written material so they don't know there are q's inside. The q's are always for different produce items. HTHs.
beachbum: I have 2 Chock full of Nuts. PM your addy.

I did something similar to this last month, they had soda on sale Just4U @ $2.27/ 12pack. I had a $2 Sundrop e-coupon and when i checked out, the receipt said I paid .27 for the soda, the coupon did come off. So, it should work that way, if it is an e-manf. coupon, you might not get to use the .75 coupon

SAFEWAY JUST4U QUESTIONS Okay, I have a Just4U deal where the ice cream is $2.88/ea. AND the add has $1/1 that automatically comes off if you buy (3). Sooooo would I get them for $1.88/ea.? I also have (4) .75/1 coupons which could make them $1.13 ea., right? If it is your personalized deal and it is breyers or one of the other qualified brands, then yes, it should work... I did something similar to this last month, they had soda on sale Just4U @ $2.27/ 12pack. I had a $2 Sundrop e-coupon and when i checked out, the receipt said I paid .27 for the soda, the coupon did come off. So, it should work that way, if it is an e-manf. coupon, you might not get to use the .75 coupon Yes, it is a personalized deal. I have to print my list though, just in case I have problems.

Has anyone shopped at Albertson's lately? It looks like they have changed their store policy to allow overage like Walmart. If anyone has done this, can you let me know? Thanks My understanding is that you can get overage from any regular mq's to apply to other items in your transaction. But you cannot get overage from the doubler's. HTH This is what I"m looking at this week at Rite Aid: Carefree, Stayfree, or o.b. 2/$5, limit 6 Get $2 UP wyb2 -MC $.75 ea (I think) 5/6 SS Submit for rebate for $5 wyb2. Not sure what that brings the total to but it sounds good for one of my favorite brands. Does anyone see any holes in this? I wonder if the rebate is still valid. It's been in my file for a while an I can't get to it at the moment. I remember the rebate saying very strongly that you couldn't submit it to separate addresses. Is that a standard thing I've never noticed? I got enough for the rebates (had no coupons) but I'm getting rainchecks for the price. Now, anyone have any o.b. coupons they could spare? They're in the 5/6 SS. Any advice about the separate addresses? This is me reminding myself to look for OB q's for you. Are you sending in more than 1 rebate? My second thought was how the heck do they get all those super high value coupons. Plus most said "free". Clearly that woman got overage, which in my area still sounds like a unicorn. In my experience when a coupon says free the cashier has to put in the amount the item cost. Yet somehow those coupons were just ringing up without beeping for the price to be input. Then again maybe that was edited out, but they said she bought meat so she had to have overage somewhere. Sadly, most of those "free" q's were probably fraudulent. Leanna: I believe it's the "Save more money. more gas. more time" rebate for spending $25 on one receipt and you get a $10 prepaid card, I think??? That's the one. Some stores have forms, but the program will also accept your name/address/phone #/DOB/email along with the UPCs on an index card. Mail that and the receipt with prices and items circled to: Save Time. Gas. Money. HBC 10.00 Rebate Offer PO Box 49109 Strongsville, OH 44149-0109 Purchased by 6/30/12, postmarked by 7/7/12 Participating products: Align, Always, Aussie, Braun, Camay, Clairol, Cover Girl, Crest, Fixodent, Gillette, Gleem, Glide, Head & Shoulders, Herbal Essences, Hydrience, Metamucil, Natural Instincts, Nice & Easy, Olay, Old Spice, Oral-B, Pantene, Pepto Bismol, Prilosec, PUR, Safeguard, Scope, Secret, Tampax, Vicks Thank you!!!! The interesting thing is that I don't think that show would appeal to many who are not couponers. I mean, someone might watch it once or twice, but then realize that it is always the same shit, just a different smell. I not only found it BORING, but I didn't like the way that it portrayed people who used coupons for the get go. I think I watched two episodes and was over it. Is there some draw from people who have stockpile envy? Maybe that's it. And just think of the changes that are being/have been implemented as a result of that show: To deter stockpiling. Many stores have discontinued offering doubled coupons. Many manufacturers and stores are limiting how many like coupons can be used in a transaction. To deter coupon fraud. Manufacturers have been forced to change their bar codes so that coupons will be used on the correct item. Manufacturers have been forced to put holograms on their FREE coupons so that they can't be counterfeited. I recently received one for CoffeeMate. And how much would you bet that coupon fraud has INCREASED since that show started airing? I certainly hope that this is the last season. I agree on 2 major things. 1. The show is a YAWNER. Person clips coupons. Person goes to store. Person fills up grocery cart w/lots of crap. Person hands coupons to cashiers. The end. 2. I too believe coupon fraud has increased once people realized it was another way to steal if they could figure out how to fraudulently use coupons. Ah...got it, thanks. Will keep my eyes peeled for the peelies.....[snort]...sorry, couldn't resist. Skubikky - PM me with your address & a wish list of what else you are looking for. I have a Peelie rebate for Stayfree/OB etc that I can mail you. ETA - Forgot to ask my question - I know a lot of you get free papers, but for those who pay for newspapers, what is the price that is acceptable? Thanks I know others already answered, but I will pipe in too, so that you can feel really good about the price you get LOL. I pay $2 a paper here for the Sunday paper. I buy between 1-4. Most weeks I buy 1, and on P&G weeks 2-4. Thanks for the update. I was curious how that all turned out.

Don't know if anyone saw this but today is CVS's Coke special. The Red Machine is supposed to spit out a coupon that makes Coke 12 pack cans $1.99 with add'l $10 purchase. HTH! It would be a decent deal IF I had $10 worth of stuff that I had ALREADY PLANNED to buy anyway, but I would not try to find $10 worth of stuff so that I could buy the Coke. I don't like deals where they try to force me to spend money to get an item (i.e. Spend $30 in these products and get a FREE Charmin TP)....uhm, no. Now if I could get the $30 worth of products for a song, I'd consider it; but hasn't been the case from what I've seen. BTW, there are a couple of P&G rebates that you all have been talking about and I'm spacing out on them. I didn't think I'd ever have the receipts to do any of them, but now I have receipts from the Pantene and I also have receipts from buying Oral B. If someone could post links to the forms, I would appreciate it. TIA
